5.2 FFA must specify that a Player who accumulates a certain number of Yellow Cards during the course of the A-League must serve a mandatory match suspension.

5.3 Further to clause 5.2, unless otherwise specified in the A-League competition rules, a Player who accumulates the following number of Yellow Cards during the course of the Regular Season, must serve the following mandatory match suspensions:

... (a) from Round 1 to Round 21 of the Regular Season, five (5) Yellow Cards equates to a one (1) match suspension;

... (b) irrespective of whether a Player has received a one (1) match suspension under clause 5.3(a), eight (8) Yellow Cards during the Regular Season equates to a one (1) match suspension. For every three Yellow Cards thereafter, an additional one (1) match suspension.

5.4 Further to clause 5.2, unless otherwise specified in the A-League competition rules, a Player who accumulates three (3) Yellow Cards during the course of the Finals Series, must serve a mandatory one (1) match suspension.

The complicating factor here is there have been 20 'weeks' of the fixtures but 22 games - how they count that I'm not clear and their probably scratching their head too!

Plus we were playing a rescheduled Week/Round 17 fixture... some rewording needed maybe to just say the first 21 games played?

What's the difference?

Huge difference. It works the same way as suspensions work. To be fair they have to be in matches rather than weeks, otherwise you benefit or lose out depending on your fixture schedule. If you get 2 weeks suspension, then the number of games you are suspended for depends on the number of games in that 2 week period. Hardly fair.

How do you keep track of what round it is when there are midweek games?
E.g.
Everyone plays Fri-Sun and it's round 10
Two teams play Wed and it's round ???
Everyone plays Fri-Sun and it's round 11

...??

I agree with adz a player can earn a yellow on Saturday, miss Wednesday and be back the next "round" while servig a suspension...

Intersting game this one - Heart have pace to burn, press high and play4-3-3...wouldn't be surprised to see McBreen feature strongly in this in the no.10 role.A lot depends on what shape Musti and Ollie are in after the farce of the Olyroos.

The problem lies in that it was a round 17 match played as our 22nd match.

So does the following clause apply

5.3 (a) from Round 1 to Round 21 of the Regular Season, five (5) Yellow Cards equates to a one (1) match suspension;

. are you lot over thinking things a bit too much?

. rounds, weeks - it don't really matter ... surely the intent is 'matches'. we have now played 22 matches so should be operating under 5.3.B

. any other way of interpreting would have had hutch available for the brisbane game (i think that was right) but suspended for the GC game (which would have been much better for us on all counts)

. of course i will eagerly wait with my tin-foil hat at the ready until we hear otherwise officially :piralaugh:

If you subscribe to true conspiracy theories we will get the go ahead to play him, he will play, we will win, Brisbane will challenge the ruling and we will be stripped of the points.

Either musty or Rogic ...not both and Kwas has to start on last games performance.

Bernie, Rostyn , Sainsbury or Hearfield or McBreen, Pasfield

Arguably the strongest team we would have ever fielded....

Bikinigirl - Even though I think you're right, and the wording probably goes back to when it was simpler and it was 1 round of games per week, it's a rule book and rule books are meant to be specific. If that rule says one thing but intends something different, what about the rest of them? Chaos!
