Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. Look, of course I don't know whether MS will be top scorer this year. However, he has come under a fair bit of fire over the last couple of years because he has rarely put it in the net - and rightfully so. The thing is, the doubters have have often asked what it is the MS supporters see in Matty that they don't.
Well, MS's goal on the weekend is a perfect example of what I've seen in Matty every since his first game
He's got the mongrel in him. He's got passion, drive, desire. He goes that bit extra. He's got strength and, whilst he may not look pretty, he has what it takes to get over, under, around or even through defenders. Look at how he owned Tiatto; that was just awesome to watch. And he created that goal out of virtually nothing 
Anyway, thats what I've seen in Matty since he started and it is something special in my opinion; the ability to create chances when nothing is doing. It's something you can't teach a player. By contrast, all those muffed shots in front of the goal during the past couple of years are something that can be fixed. Hopefully, its fixed now and Matty can get on with becoming a goal scoring machine.

This thread was started as Top Scorer, not golden boot winner. But its good to see that your reasoning for Mat not having a chance at golden boot is because others in our team will also score rather than saying Simon will not score (as has been a general assertion in the past).

. had somebody say to me today (not a coastie and only a casual aussie football observer) that he thought the golden boot winner would come from the mariners this year. i was obviously thinking similar things as some of you as i asked who? no single striker stood out for me as eclipsing his teammates
