“I don't see us necessarily leaving Gosford, and I don't want to see that and don't expect that, but if North Sydney Council offers us a good deal then it's tempting.
"We lose money every time we play in Gosford, that's a simple fact. Other than our first game of the season against Western Sydney Wanderers we have lost money on every single home game and that’s not sustainable."

Does not sound like just a couple games. Sounds like shifting lock, stock and barrel.
Yeah.

He was just taken out of context all those other times.

And he's just floating a balloon here. Nothing to see here.

*cough*

Side track for a second: it never ceases to piss me right the eff off whenever some misinformed moronic twit head on TWG's Facebook says the Mariners have no fans and we play in front of empty stadiums. Bloody hell, we have better average attendance than Heart and Welly and Adelaide, shut the hell up.

And Perth.

Back to the NSO debacle: still annoyed as all hell that the Mariners didn't submit tender to take over management of the stadium.

I don't want to go to the game because I am mad as hell at the whole thing, but I have a old coastie mate who moved to Sydney and hasn't been to a game since before Tommy left. He works in North Sydney and is keen to get to a game so close to his work, plus I've missed the last two home games so it is killing me not having gotten to a game in so long. Can't wait for the Wanderers game, need to get to a game sooner.

You have to go mate......missing three on the trot is too much!!

I've already told the Mrs I'm not going and she is well pleased.

Thank you MC for the change to bring another new Mariners supporter along to BLUETOUGUE in 9mths time......shame for you they will be free entry.

... and here we go again

. i may be in the minority here but i reckon MC needs to lay off gosford council, consider the following (gleened from reading plenty of crap recently or over the years):
  • we have probably the cheapest rent deal in the league
  • our break-even point at gosford is 10k and we were hitting that number before talk escalated about moving to nso
  • the pitch now seems in the best condition it has for a long time (i assume that has cost money)
  • both gosford council and bluetongue stadium are listed as major sponsors of the mariners (whatever that means) - so the constant need to piss them off and complain about their costs seems odd
  • a significant component of the 'cost' of playing at gosford is the security
  • north sydney council have 'bought' this game ... why would this continue long term?
  • in addition to all the free 'advertising' more seems to have been spent by the mariners promoting this game than any other
. the quote in the article about the dollars that the mariners 'bring' to the community is interesting ... but is only of any value to market yourself to, say, another venue. realistically this is of little benefit to gosford council directly ... i'd be interested to know how much the council thinks it 'costs' them to have the mariners play at gosford

33% cost to run, 10% of the fans to turn up. You do the math.

. regardless of whether all this has been to get a better deal for bluetongue ... we already know MC has hot himself in the foot (or both feet, several times) ... because he is driving people away with his comments

. but if only 3,000 turn up tomorrow gosford council could very well wet themselves with laughter

MC is just going the wrong way about it. Hell if I was in his position I would probably take a hard line as well. What annoys me is the way he is going about it.

He challenged the Central Coast to reach 5000 members which we did without a problem. He should be looking to consolidate and build on that for next season. Nope, lets talk about relocating games instead. Don't expect anywhere near that amount of members next year.

The break even point at BT is 10000. We have achieved that once this season with the WSW. Providing running commentary to the press about the local council, stadium rates, games away from BT etc will do nothing to attract additional fans to home games. In fact I see the opposite happening.

Appointing the head of the Northern Beaches Football Association to the board speaks volumes to the fans. Yes I know he wants to capture the Northern Beaches market, but seriously it just sends the wrong message to all the Central Coast fans. With the game at NSO I wonder how many of those tickets will be freebies or provided to the Northern Beaches clubs at greatly reduced prices. If MC hits the 10000 mark expect him to use this as justification for more games down there.

I love this club but he is truly testing my patience.

Well I'm still going. The boys need all the support they can get at this time. With all the turmoil at the club at the moment the last thing they need is another loss which in turn will push away more crowds at home. We need to win this one to have any hope of beating or drawing WSW at home. We need momentum.

So I'm not going to let any relocation rumblings affect my team any further.

I support the team.

Twice:
Rd 1 vs WSW = 17,134
Rd 9 vs SFC = 10,251
Average for all five home games this season = 10,116

So we are doing OK.

We will also get a decent crowd for the NYE game. The figure is also brought down significantly by the one rain affected game against the Victory.

Agreed. We need to get behind the team. The best way to ensure we get all games on the coast is to consistently get 10k or over to Bluetongue. Now more than ever we need to be pushing the fence sitters to games.

We also still have 4 more local derby matches to come, plus NYE. We should have comfortably achieved a plus 10,000 average, but I doubt it now. I really believe these comments will very badly affect "home" crowds.

I also didn't like the below quote, or his maths. Sounds very dismissive of "local" supporters, and if you were at the game you could clearly see that we were well more than half of the support.

The defending champion’s break-even point is 10,000 at Bluetongue Stadium and its only five-figure gate this season was the 18,721 it attracted against Western Sydney in the opening round.

"Half of that figure was Wanderers fans," Charlesworth said.

Only ONE five figure gate mentioned when there has been two..? Couple this with the five figure average we have achieved not being mentioned and it makes you wonder if there is an agenda to make our attendance seem worse than it is.

ARGH!

I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt - been a bit out busy at work of it this week, so haven't followed news too closely... Bought a ticket this morning, then came in here to catch up and now I'm regretting buying the ticket... I can't F*****G believe this guy, is he TRYING to run the team into the ground?

Localpom: I posted about this in the other thread, but there's only so much we can do... I he doesn't appreciate the existing, record-setting, membership, why would he suddenly appreciate the extra fence sitters? This guy is a bloody PR nightmare and he needs to pull his head in now I think... He's not causing the fanbase to rally, he's causing them to run away. I'm not proud of it, and likely nothing will come of it, but at this point, I'm finding myself questioning the worth of a membership next year... It's just getting to be too painful to watch a team that I care for, be mistreated like this. I go to games to enjoy myself and support the team, my blood pressure should be spiking during the game, not for the entirety of the week leading up to each game.
