I've rated T-S for a long time, he's one of the few players from other A-League teams I would happily invite to the Mariners. not that we need any quality CB's at the moment

Oh yeah, I forgot to give Fitzy credit for the shift he put in when he came on. Very impressive, great energy and skill in attack. Great signing by Arnie.

I think we all just have to realise that when you get a group of people together you are always going to find an idiot or two, its no different to the family christmas at my place. Sure the sooner we weed out the flare throwers, the bottle throwers and the occassional idiotic sign the better but if thats all you took out of the game last night with 22+ players working their holes out and 18+ thousand there for the football alone all in atrocious conditions then you are pretty hard to please.

Oh yea and on the football, that Fitzgerald of yours, super impressive, given more game time think he could have provided the cutting edge you needed and Topor Stanley was immense (and this coming from me who was filthy when they signed him as I have never been a fan of his as a player but this season he has been our best), might be biased but he should be back in the Socceroos lineup, he's better than anything we've got there at the moment

Congrats to the wanderers fans I loved the atmosphere last night. Particularly enjoyed the sight of you all with your scarves overhead without moving. Really a show of unity among your group. So right about the idiots. I had an idiot sitting behind me in the western stand last night. Unfortunately he is a CC member and I have to put up with his ridiculous comments every week. Will be great to have you back at Bluetongue for the grand final.
Topor Stanley and Beauchamp positioning last night was first class being able to block shots in the first half that could have seen the game go our way. Still cant understand why no one was having a go from outside the penalty area with a greasy ball and slippery pitch it would have been a nightmare for goalkeepers.
Matty Ryan was on a hiding to nothing by taking the penalty but it also shows an appalling lack of responsibility from those who have taken penalties before. We all miss penalties Suck it up and take some responsibility Practice harder especially the senior members of the team and lead by example.

As for the RBB... they were superb. They have set a new standard for active support and hopefully they have taught our crowd a thing or two about joining in. For the first time, I heard the western stand join in the chant "Yellow Army"... so that's progress. Also, their chants are slow and simple. I once commented that the YA version of Mariners clap, clap, clap was way too fast and was advised that if it was any slower then it would be a death march. Well, take a leaf out of RBB's book when it comes to timing.

Good point. The big thing I took away from the match was the difference in vocal supporting styles. We sing for the most part, while WSW chant. Chants are usually very simple and easy to get co-ordination going. Singing is clever, but much harder for the non-rusted on fans to get involved.

It doesn't matter really what words are used, because in 99% of cases all you hear is noise, not the words themselves. RBB were extremely loud, and congrats to them for that, but I failed to understand one word of what they were chanting.

It maybe worth finding out from the experts (RBB) what there chants are and adopt a few with modifications.

Notice that he is half the weight now. He was Porky Pig playing for the Jets Scum. At one point he and Duke had to sprint some distance for the ball. Hyphen won the race. He won all the headers too.

I've always rated him, more for his positioning and reading of the game. But now he is lean he's possibly the 2nd best in the A-League. Second to Trent of course.

A sad result but a great game & a great atmosphere.
Both sides played some entertaining football with some of the Mariners interchange of passes in the second half absolutely superb.
Everyone that comes to this forum will know that our finishing would bite us on the arse one day.
Yesterday was that day.

It was also the first time I`ve ever been to Bluetongue where the Yellow Army were drowned out by the opposition supporters. Although the support in Bay 16 was massive, the sheer weight of numbers by the RBB was unbelievable.
The march in over the railway bridge was fantastic, the best I have ever seen to any ground

As for the crowd behaviour, apart from a few flares it was great.I saw a few things thrown onto the ground from the away block but nothing to really worry about.

Anon : "Shinji Ono ate my dog".
I didn`t see the sign but in all honesty I don`t think it`s racist.
Offensive maybe but not certainly not racist.

ALFan. Good to have you in Gosford. The difference between Scum (newcastle) fans and you guys is chalk and cheese. The atmosphere you created was magic and for the amount of people you had there your guys were very well behaved.
Credit to you all. It was funny.....most Mariners fans were like.....good luck to em.....which is not always the sentiment when we lose.
Respect to you on and off the field.
I do think some of you are being a bit precious whinging about the Ono banner.....shows we might be a bit dumb anyway because I didnt think he was Korean?

Please don't copy within the ALeague, RBB consciously avoid others supporters chant, the exception being 'who do you sing for?' with ESFC, but the Cove stole that from SCC, and didn't do much with it.

At the start of the season, the ground dj played 7Nations, RBB told the club to take this off as it is MV signature chants.

Just go look at youtube, and be inspired by what other clubs do internationally, remember contradictory to what AFL may wish, we are part of The World Game.

Another key to a successful chant is what the Germans called Ohrwurm or earworm.

'who do you sing for?'

Well I suppose the last 7 seasons doesn't actually exist for you lot, so I'll let that and most song/chants talk pass by. o_O

Did love it when the RBB sang "who do we sing for?" and the whole western stand at least were coming back with "we sing for yellow!"

ps. Obviously we've all been listening for the past 8 years.. :shoutclap:

The person with the banner would probably said "Japanese, Korean they all look alike", racial stereotyping.

Couple of guys got told by CCMfans to 'Go back to where you came from', 'f'en wogs'... hmmm... whoever said it do they even know anything about the game at all.

Bloody hope this crap is stop (ALeague in general) and don't take hold, if they get away with it, what's next? Monkey chants?

I'm sure this is a minority.

Like I said SCC did this with the cove for ESFC games, and we did it to piss them off at the start of the season with their attitude... hahaha.

But anyway my point is there's lots of ideas out there (beond the ALeague)...

I really don't give a toss (and you will find that most others don't either) but I had to laugh at this. There was a point in the first half RBB was singing a fast version of Yellow Submarine, obviously using different words to "we all follow a yellow football team" though, which we've been doing since season 1. There are others too.

the penalty issue is the biggest for mine . i believe danny should be taking them.
this must be settled this week. even if he misses .i'd rather he take ten
in a row. or we pick someone else and thats it.
either we need a shooting coach or we need to practice at the pointy end alot more.
if not we need a penalty free kick specialist and fit them in.

anyone got hernades number?

Yellow Submarine? We don't do anything in this tune. You probably heard "Come on You Wanderers", which is the Popeye (created early 20th century I think way before the Beatles was formed) theme song. I have not found any clubs adopting this theme around the world.
