Agreed, after all the hype, I was expecting a little better than we saw from the greedy wanker.

He seemed to try to play the Viduka role, slow, no tracking back and wait for someone to serve it up to him on a plate. Seemed to go missing in big games too (grand Final anyone??)

Obviously injury prone and if Bling get 10 games out of him, they will be lucky.

I may eat my words but I doubt he'll be good for the 10+ goals Bling is obviously banking on him netting and thats assuming he does regularly play. To my mind, the bulk of finishes Aloi$i made for us (Which should actually have been considerably more) were not actually created by John and should mostly have been made by any other striker who was putting himself where he should be. All strikers need good service, but some can still create something out of nothing, John never showed me this quality last season. He showed great skills in holding the ball up, and of positioning himself, but I wanted more... certainly more speed...

As to Bozza, I personally think having a keeper of his ability stepping in to cover for 5 weeks could well make the difference in us bidding for a top 4 spot this season. So I can sincerely say, that at this point in time, I would certainly rather sign Bozza than John, without any fear of hypocrisy... let alone an insufficient grill  :tophat:

Put aside everyones obvious ill feeling towards Aloi$i and answer this question. With our current squad who would be a better aquisition to the team, Bozza or Aloi$i?

The people who answered bozza are clearly a lamb chop short of a mixed grill. Clearly Aloi$i has a dodgy knee but we have kept Mrdja for 3 years with a shit house knee. Everyone's rambling reaks of hypocricy and I bet when he signed last year you couldn't wipe the smile off your faces. I still would rather aloi$i in our team than fat so bozza. Wake up and get real marinators.

bozza

even if you asked me that question last year or even if you asked me the question if aloi$i was still here, i would still said bosnich because what he has done for the socceroos. all aloi$i has done is kick a bloody ball in the back of the net to get us to the world cup.

What disappointed me most about Aloisi was that all that passion he showed (Major Semi, 1st Leg being the best example) and his talk about "loving being able to live in such a nice place" and all that was for nothing.  He pissed off down the freeway for a negligible amount more...... don't give me any shit about "playing under a better system/coach" - Sydney are the second most boring team in the HAL to watch behind Perth.  He'll be playing a lone striker with 3 behind him, and when his knee gives out in about Round 7, the Cove will be calling for his head.

A greedy prick, nothing more.

I too was ecstatic when JA's coming was announced (and TBH was thrilled to see him provide some classy touches and lovely goals). Having guys like him, Viddy and now Bozza playing in the yellow and navy (or GK strip) at the 'Tongue has been like a dream come true.

But JA was always more Bling than a 'NDP' community-based club person. The most glaring example of which (and for which I was happy to see him go) was his exchanging an ACL berth for "being part of something really big like this" (80 000 crowd for Sydney FC vs.LA Galaxy)

All Bozza had to do was stop one of two rather soft goals against Iran and we would have been to the cup years ago. He couldn't. So what has he done for the Socceroos? Wasn't Schwarzer our number one the following cup campaign?

neither goal was his fault

Still his job is to stop them regardless!!! They were hardly convincing strikes. Aloi$i was still our top goal scorer and he only played half the season. And without his goals last year do you think we would have got the plate... Me thinks not, especially when we only got it by goal difference.

stop it - i am laughing so much it hurts

by your reasoning every single goal that is scored is every goalkeeper's fault

get some perspective

Theres two arguments here that most people seem to be ignoring in peoples posts. One is who is a better player for the mariners squad and the second is who did more for australian soccer.

Now i like bozza and like most i dont think very highly of Aloi$i. but here what i think.

As for who would be better for the mariners squad i think it would be Aloi$i, i know alot of you say that you were content to see him leave but no one would be whingeing about our striker signings if we had Aloi$i, Mrdja, sasho, Simons and Mcallister would they ?

the main argument for the bozza argument is that he is a ready made world class goal keeper...... ummmm wow ! he has not played for what 6 ? 8 years ? and only started watching soccer again in the past couple. Thats hardly what i would call a ready made goal keeper. Sure he might have been the worlds best keeper (in the late 90's) but form can be lost in as little as a few weeks, let alone 8 years !

As for who has done more for Australian soccer ? hmm well i dont think there is any way of measuring that is there ? As i see it soccer is not a game that was invented in 2005 when alosi kicked a penalty to get us into the world cup. As we all know before that players like Viduka, Kewell and bozza gave Australian soccer alot of credability as far as produceing world class players. It could be argued that they paved the way for Australias modern talent to make it into the top flight European leagues.

While Aloi$i is great for the TV adds promoting soccer and the game locally, like people have said that could have been anyones dandruff covered melon doing the promoting !  (including Tony Vidmar)

(sorry i fail at spelling and grammer)

You have no idea. It was because of Bosnich that we were still in it come the second leg. You really need to get over your Bosnich hating.

Very true. He was unbelievable in the first leg in Tehran and if it wasn't for him, the tie would have been all over before that night at the MCG.

Looks like the Mariners will be struggling to field a team this week against bling with injury concerns over Wilko and Jedinak being out.
Simon and Boogaard still with Olyroos!
Hope some of these youngsters can step up!

We should still be ok I'm thinking. Means Porter an Dapuzzo I would think will get some good game time which is a good thing.

Besides... I heard Mark Bosnich might be playing, so we won't actually need any defenders anyway!!!
