Trying to look for positives from tonight's match.

1st half we were competitive, but only one team really came out after half time. Roar just cranked it up a notch and we couldn't\didn't match it.

Fabio definitely a class above and looked super while he lasted.

Good to see Rose bombing forward more often. Just like the good old days.

But the biggest positive was Posco's effort. That was by far the best defensive knock I've seen from any player in the A-League for a long time. His through balls were 99% accurate, positioning was mostly great, and he got through a mountain of work. This lad has a BIG future if he continues to progress as he is.

I heard a rumour that the players threw the game against SFC due to the treatment of Graham Arnold. What I just witnessed tonight was not throwing a game but a team being shell shocked by yet another loss of a real team player DUKE, once again undermining our great team. For Christ's sake we didn't even get a chance to farewell the talented guy. Many of us fork out hard earned money to be what I consider loyal supporters but I now really question why I should follow the code of football I love that permits players to be headhunted mid season and decimate well performing teams. Sorry but I think it's back to Rugby by for me.

I consider that highly unlikely - while the way Arnie was treated may not have been the greatest he is fair game after the comments he made when leaving this club and his actions since. I thought he bought fairly well in the transfer window and that was reflected in the result. Hutch's apology to the fans after the game certainly didn't sound like something that a player who threw the game would make.

Like I said in response to an earlier poster, the deal wasn't finalised until after the Adelaide game and once it was it was entirely up to Shimizu when they wanted him to go to Japan. How good would the club look if they announced at the Adelaide game that he was leaving and the deal subsequently fell through?

Selling players that the club has spent time on has been the business model for quite some time - you would have to live under a rock not to know that. It's how the club pays the bills - because it sure as hell isn't doing it from ticket sales.

Sorry but I think it's back to Rugby by for me.
Off you go then. I can't imagine you'll be terribly missed if you can't deal with the way that football works.

Another dividing initiative.
Shame people who have pre purchased can't jump on board to because if you are giving them away why not give as many as possible.

Plenty on the Sydney commute prob don't even know little own time to organise.

But at least they trying something.

. i had similar thoughts ... they are trying things but, to me, they are all half-arsed - or they shoot themselves in the foot at the same time:
  • no significant discount for NS game when so many free tickets were given away to 'locals'
  • you could buy a package which included a game already included in your membership (so coastie members could be paying extra for the privilege of attending games in NS)
  • discounted tickets for the lucky door prize game ... but closing them off two days before the game when the forecast was still for 40 degrees or something stoopid - as the forecast improved it was too late to buy in
  • cheap tickets to the brookvale game, but far too late and poorly advertised
  • and now, free tickets if you haven't already bought some ... and only if you happen to be checking your emails/social media when you 'should' be at work
. unfortunately i think these great ideas, poorly executed will actually diminish our crowds further ... ie. people will wait for the 'next deal' before they buy ... no deal, no buy. perhaps it is helping the reported 'engagement' on social media - but it is not translating to ticket sales.

. on the game ... i agree with some of the positives posted by others:
  • fabio really seemed to encourage the other guys to play football with attacking intent
  • posco was great - controlling the ball, some incisive forward passes - he must have been inspired by sains in the asian cup. plus we finally had a back willing and able to tidy up the mistakes of others (something we have sorely missed in the last year or so)
  • some of the balls played by kalik. played with the weight and accuracy to allow his teammates to continue their run forward and into space
  • it is good to have monty 'back'
  • hutch attempting to console kalik after the game ... good work captain
. on the other hand:
  • we still typically play the ball to where the player is, not where he should be when the ball arrives - we have many serial offenders
  • this not helped by a lack of confidence in teammates to make the run and/or hold the ball ... or indeed a lack of confidence in their own passing ability
  • long balls from reddy or bosnar after they have run out of options / taken too long ... balls which float harmlessly off to the opposition
  • me finally realising what people mean when they say a number 10 plays 'in the hole' behind the strikers. far too often we have nobody in this massive space
. we often appear to have three 'wingers' in a crowded area on each side but nobody in the middle which is not very threatening - part of the reason why we have looked a bit more positive in the last couple of games with hutch and monty driving into this space (and they could be driving a truck)

. i wonder if caceres may actually be more effective playing out wide instead of continually moving wide to receive the ball - thinking he'd be better 'coming in' rather than 'moving out'. we need somebody disciplined enough to hold the position in the middle of the park - providing an option and giving the opposition something to think about

Mid season transfers are a long established part of football and as RBS said it's part of our business model. You only have to look at the socceroos to see some of our talent that have moved on.

So we are having a poor season. Currently sitting in 8th.
Season 5 we finished 8th and since then have won a Premiership and a championship.
It's short sighted to jump ship now but if you must, remember it's women and children first.

Some nice passages of play but while posco had a great game our defence at times was really woeful. Towards the end when we pushed for possession & forced turnovers should be the we play for more than just 10mins.
I was skeptical about Fabio coming in but he will be great on the wing. I suppose it's easy to forget what a real winger plays like when supporting our team.
Caceras needs a spell of you ask me he seems flat.

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
first 15 or 20 was pretty good, ....then it went to shit.... we had 3 shots on target..3!... the bad habit of sending balls to where no one was got worse ...MOM for mine was Posco, best game his had since showing up...Monty Hutch Rosey and Stormy done good ...Caceres needs a holiday..Fabio was a cut above everyone, when he gets match fit, its gonna be bonz....
the young fellas done good again ...the idiot ref wasnt helping either, i lost count of how many roar guys went down screaming for 30 secs then jumped up without the trainer been near them...time wasting, thats a yellow all day aint it?....cudos to Pete and his megaphone enthused yellow hordes...they were having a bigger go than some of the players in the second half...the brass section going for a wander indicates how exciting the game was.....I said to a mate last night the only thing Mossy has in common with other team managers is the ego..cause his got nothing else in the job description
SEASON OVER

This is right! I'm tired of banging on about it being a "feature" of football. Seems to me that the (ahem) European (style) coaches in the HAL foster this kind of behaviour. A true blot on the Beautiful Game and one which arouses mirth in fans of other codes, rightfully so imho. No way to retain fans let alone attract new ones.

The long balls from Reddy are usually a result of the backs taking the soft option to play it back to him; he has no option but to hoof it long. You might note that even the great Mat Ryan had to do this in the Asian Championship and often lost possession as a result.

The first half was pretty even but there was a major tactical shift at half time. It was made by the roar. I'm not sure of the technical nature but they seemed to go to a version of 3 at the back to control the midfield which they did. Also on fox their coach mentioned cutting off the time Monty had on the ball. Seemed to work pretty effectively.
We barely touched the ball without turning it back over in the second half and I belieive this was Mossy being out coached.
Mossy response came on 60 mins to bring on major but it was a straight swap for Fabio there didn't apeat to be a technical system change.

Is Cacerras a victim of the lack of movement in our play so he has no where to play the ball or just not an AM?

Can't help but think it's both.

He has such good touch and control but after he turns and twists he has no where to go as no one moving to receive a pass but the defender is still on him so can't go by either.

To me he looks a lot more comfortable further back where he has more time but he is not a get stuck into Monty style DM.

Copped it from the fox boys tonight to for his effort.

Poor kid looks lost or very frustrated at minimum.

If you believe that rumour you probably believed Australia threw the ashes in 2009 to get bigger crowds.....wtf....fair weather mug.

Had a conversation this weekend and was talking about Duke's departure. Apparently, this has been on since before Xmas and the original plan was Rose and Monty as well. (Apparently Moss had basically told them they would get a 1 year contract for one and the other wasn't wanted). Delay was all tied in with the new contracts of Rose and Monty. This came from a horses mouth so to speak. As well as a comment over heard by a player that confidence is through the floor due to no one having any confidence in Mossy.
I hope things improve soon and we see more of Posc and more of the footy from the first half but if these comments are the thoughts of the squad then we could have problems way past this season.

That's all very well, but there are a bunch of players who are playing like busted arses - Moss is not the only one to blame.

I'm sorry, but someone I know read your post and said that they had heard that someone said that apparently you may be posting rumours that someone had heard somewhere. Is that true? ;)
