Mariners set sail for north shore
JUNIORS TO PARADE ON THE OVAL
MORE than 1000 juniors will march proudly for their clubs at North Sydney Oval on Friday night.

In a special event, the Central Coast Mariners will face Melbourne Victory in the only ALeague match to be played at the community ground this season.
Event marketing co-ordinator Kym Griffen said it was part of the Mariners’ push into the north shore, after the creation of the North Shore Mariners Academy at Northbridge FC.
“This is a real opportunity for the football community to get behind the A-League,” he said.
“We don’t get these events very often at North Sydney Oval, so it’s a great chance for the whole community.
“If we can get lots of people down here, we might get more games here.”
Griffen said the grand parade before the match would be something fun for both the young players involved and the crowd.
“We hope to have about 8000 to 10,000 people in by then, so it will be a real buzz for the kids,” he said.
“There’s about 25 main clubs that make up most of the numbers in the North Shore Football Association. We know that 21 of those will be in the parade.
“There are clubs like Kissing Point who have had to stop getting kids involved because they already had more than 100.”
While the Mariners and Victory are warming up in the middle of the oval, the juniors will march around the edge of the field.
Each club will have its banner flying and the youngsters will be dressed in their club colours.
After the parade, the juniors will watch the match from specially allocated bays. Before the game, fans can enjoy the two food villages outside the ground, plus a variety of activities for children and adults.
