Very impressive game. We were excellent and pressured the life out of Sydney who were shite.

Every single player was superb.

MOM: Simon 3pts
Kwas 2pts
Rose/Ryan/WeeMac/Amini/Dutchy 1pt

Ryan 8. Top game, couple of top draw saves.
Pedj 7.5. Great to have him back
Wilko 7.5. Very solid.
Dutchy 8. Classy.
Rose 8. Very good game, a real handful.
Back 5 were magic last night.

Bozanic 7.5. Good honest game.
Griffiths 7.5. Back to form.
Amini 8. Really impressive and showed some aggression to go with the skill and vision.
WeeMac 8. Top game.

Simon 9. Wow.
Kwas 8.5. Should have had 4!!!!!! Well done Kwassie, lively all night.

Subs: All excellent.

Atmosphere was good and good to see Bay16 working again and old hard heads like Fish and Edgy leading the way.

Chant of the night....to Breeze " Your more bent than FIFA, more bent than FIFA"

Great night.

Thanks Kwas more making my wish come true - awesome performance. I thought everyone played their part: Ryan excellent again, Pedj bravely bringing balance back to the side, Zwaanswijk a warrior leading from the back, Wilko quiet and efficient, Rose must be a smokey for the Socceroos at the Asian Cup, Griffiths Jedi-esque in his abilty to muscle possession and so cool on the ball, McGlinchey tirless, everywhere and defines ball security, Bozanic doing all the hard yards to cover Rose, and Amini quite sublime, beautiful passer, great vision and clearly enjoying playing at this level. But it was the two up front that so caught the eye - Kwasnik the magician with killer runs into the box, Kwasnik the confident and Kwasnik the willing worker but most of all Kwasnik the predator. Loved his attempt at a cheeky back heel flick - which would have put Rose through for an open goal. And that may well have been the best I have seen Matty Simon play. Involved in every goal, the pass to Kwas for the first was pure perfection, his ability to hold the ball up, to take people on, his passing were all first class. In the eighteen pass movement for the third he hit a 30 metre curving ball with the outside of his right foot to switch play - who says this boy has no skill!? Thought Perez made a not unexpected quiet retrun but it will do him good and both Hutch and Doig played solidly. Big ups to Arnie and Moss for getting this team back into the groove so quickly.

MoM 3 points - I give it to Kwas on emotional grounds
2 points - Matty, but logically he contributed even more than Kwas
1 point - McGlinchey but could easily go to Rose, Zwaanswijk, Griffiths or Amini

And for Sydney, that kid Antonis will be a gun in a couple of years

Anyone else think that Macf**knuckle when he flatten Aminin off the ball should have been red carded ... just goes to show in many ways how far Amini has come ...

Just thinking about the game last night.
If Kwassie had scored from that volley(passed from Dutchy) it would easily have been the goal of the season!!

Griffith was sensational & I would have loved to see Matty knock Foxe on his arse!!

18 passes for the third goal

I was about to go back and count that, thanks for saving my time.....ahh bugger it, was such a good goal i'll watch it again.

Best first half performance of the year. Bojic at the back brings a greater understanding between the back 5 and this will be crucial for the run in.
Think Mcbreen won't be back for a while and if a new striker comes in, kwas/simon should feel aggrieved.
Also Antonis will be the new Tim Cahill, was class in a terrible, terrible side.

. can't believe no-one has mentioned what looked to be a clear 'spot' for handball in the first half . while going to halftime 3-0 was great, 4-0 would have been even better :D

I don't have the advantage of a fox replay but from my vantage point in the stand I thought Amini got the ball first when he was given his yellow card. If he got the ball first what did breeze expect him to do pull his leg out of the way? Thaat's how I saw it from my spot. Can someone please confirm whether he did get the ball first and in the opinion of others did it warrant a yellow card.

I think it was more a case of "ball to hand" but with a shit referee like Breeze it could have gone either way.

Did I mention that I think Breeze is the worst referee. He has no feel for the game & no respect from the players.

It was ball to hand - but he had no business having his arms out like that in the box. Clear penalty. I'm sure it would have been given at the other end of the field.

Exactly right PJ.

What a terrific performance and an IMPORTANT one. 3 points is always very valuable, but after losing 5-1 at home - we had one more home game before we would go away and then come back for our big silly season home run of games... If we had done that on the back of another dire performance (or even just a draw in all likelihood) it would not have boded well for our upcoming attendances.

But now...

That was a big win and no mistake.

On individual performances - I'm very happy to a man. Who wouldn't be.
Pedj back makes such a difference to our balance - The only time we started looking vulnerable was via Antonis in the last 20 when Doig came on for Pedj and Wilko went wide again.

The different pairing upfont worked a treat. Kwas was making terrific runs and was dangerous where ever he was. JUST as you want your striker to be. Great game.

And Simon...

For two seasons I, like some others, had been commenting on the need for Matty to seriously improve his touch and his ability to take a man on. WIthout this I had strongly questioned his ability to have a genuinely ambitious and effective career as a striker.

Well the noticeable improvement in the last three weeks - at its peak so far against Sydney - has very happily proven me wrong - or right I guess, depending how you view it ;) - as it has seen Matty beginning to play football on a completely different level to what he has ever shown before. And it's impressive.

I really hope he keeps working on his ball skills, because with his famed work rate, spirit and the balls he is putting in, if he can continue to improve his first touch and dribbling skills, then who knows where or how far his career could go.

That said, while in no small part credit to the coaching staff I am sure, I am continually seeing improvements in the on ball skill of all our players. Pedj, Wilko and Simon have all gone up another level and I think it's highly likely that having such talented ball to feet players like Weemac, Perez, Amini, Ollie and Dutchy I include also - has had a strong positive influence as well.

We are an exciting team that is playing very attractive exciting football - provided it's not the one in every five or so complete melt down games of course

So massive kudos to GA and Moss and well done Mariners you are doing yourselves and all of us proud and look to be at last, truly believing in yourselves. AS YOU SHOULD!!

Love to see this squad with a few additions going to Asia!

But meanwhile would still like to see another RB/RM cover signed _this_ season. How long is Porter projected as still being out for anyone?

Also if we aren't signing another striker, I wouldn't mind seeing Bernie sitting on the bench a bit, be good to have him come into games like those against SFC for the last 15 or so to help get an indication of whether he will cut it at this level and if so begin to blood him in preparation for next season... Scoring four and assisting in a fifth - be they on a plate or not is impressive by anyone's standards.
Thoughts?

. would have been nice to see him come on with 15 to go ... at 4-0 up with 45 to go it could have been the perfect 'no pressure' situation to build confidence and possibly slot a couple home

. unfortunatley the team sheet wasn't written assuming we would be in that situation

Also all the subs were designed to cover different parts of the park with questions over the fitness of Pedj, Perez and Griffiths.

It will be interesting to see squad make up with MC Breen coming back into the mix. You would think he needs to be on the bench. Therefore who misses out?
Doig , Hutch or Perez?

Bex

I would expect Pedj's fitness to allow him to play 90 minutes next game, which probably means Doig will lose his bench spot.

Having said that, you could argue we don't need both Hutch and Perez on the bench. Obviously, they're very different with Perez attacking and Hutch more defensive.

I would be inclined to keep Perez on the bench leaving Hutch to miss out but that would be a big call for a player who you've got to admit has given a lot to the Mariners over the years.

So, it could come down to who has been putting in the effort and who is seen as there for the future; Doig or Hutch?

With my most coloured Mariner glasses on all the goals we scored were very soft ... Matty goal in particular, the own goal...

Our problems are a long way from over .... SFC had a real off night ... not saying we did not play well but SFC were crap...
