I've always rated him. Would be great to get him over.....
He would need to be better than he was when he left $ity for mine. That said, a few seasons of European football will hopefully have improved his game. We could do worse I guess but we need warriors and I am unsure if he would fit into that category.

Stories starting to circle that were looking at signing Kalifa Cisse. 34yo played premier league but has been in Thailand for the last few years.
1.88m tall so may have more presence in defence then some we have had recently

Centre back or defensive mid.

Monty would certainly know him.

The Central Coast Mariners have wasted no time in sourcing a replacement for Alan Baro in the heart of defence, lining up former Reading defender Kalifa Cisse.

Updated Updated 5 hours ago
Cisse, 34, is currently free agent after leaving Thai League 1 club BEC Tero Sasana, the club which Mike Mulvey took charge of during the 2017 season before he returned to Australia to take the reins at the Mariners.

Although Cisse played the bulk of his career as a holding midfielder, he has lately been playing as a central defender, and it is there where the Mariners see him becoming a like-for-like replacement for Baro.

Born in France, Cisse would go on to represent Mali at international level, earning five caps between 2008 and 2012.

His international career was unfortunately restricted by presence of some legendary players in his position, including Seydou Keita, Mahamadou Diarra and Adama Coulibaly.

While Baro was stoic in his single season at Central Coast, his contract was mutually terminated this week.

The club have been looking for a more commanding presence in the back line, precisely what the more vocal Cisse provides.

The Mariners are also convinced Cisse’s age won’t be a problem, having already confirmed his fitness levels are comparable with the fittest players at the club.

Coming through the youth ranks of esteemed development club Toulouse, Cisse made his professional debut in Portugal with Estoril before making the switch to one of the biggest clubs in Portugal, Boavista.

He spent two seasons there before making the switch to then-Premier League club Reading, who signed him for just shy of €1 million ($1.5m) in 2007. He stayed there until 2010, making 90 league appearances and scoring seven goals, before joining Bristol City for another two years.

Cisse then had short spells with MLS club New England Revolution and English Championship side Derby County before moving to Thailand, where he played for Bangkok United, Bangkok Glass and BEC Tero Sasana, making well over 100 appearances in the top flight.

Is this significantly more coaching staff than we've had before though?
Traditionally we've only had one assistant coach and this is the first time I've noticed a Head of Performance, so that's 2 more, but the rest are normally on the books in some capacity aren't they?

. i think at various times we have had two assistants - most notably Fergie and Tobin in the early years ... sometimes it has been a transitional thing and sometimes it is the youth coach taking a spot on the bench too. don't forget Monty's role from last year appears to have been absorbed into these positions as well (apparently he was kept well clear of the squad during Okon's reign)

. the Head of Performance is the Strength and Conditioning role which we have always had although Clarkie was theoretically part-time in the earlier years as he was a player too. Balder last year and Brice prior to that with, I think, some work experience kiddie before that

. Nash has been with the club for a few years and other than when Crawley was a player as well we have always had a goalkeeping coach. similarly for the physio - but the names can change without fanfare

. Schembri has been involved with the club's youth setup for years and i assume his role with the first team will remain limited

. i think some of the other roles were the ones that may have disappeared for a while (or been part of multiple responsibilities). Jesse has been with the club for quite a few years now and filled that role last year. i thought we lost our 'kit manager' during one of Charlesworth's toe-cutting phases when the players had to wash their own shirts ... so maybe that is a re-instated (new) role - but hardly a coach unless her role is also to coach the players how to do their laundry*

* not intended as a dig at Melissa, more a comment on the supposed immaturity of some 'professional' footballers

So we have 14 players let's add another 2, from our youth team.

That's 16 players, hhhhhhmm and this to date aside from Dutchie are all the lower level of pay scale.

Let's take a wild very wild guess. Assume 16 players at $100,000 average, plus another $200,000 for Dutchie that's 1.8 million, leaving 1.7 million for 6 to 7 players or say $240,000 each at least.

Also I think the 1.8 million is more than we are paying so my 1.5 is low.

If we only sign say 6 quality players we could be looking at a GF appearance.

I have not seen ever at our club a more brutal approach to player selection.

I am stating to warm to MM lot, he has built a decent squad now he has the funds to recruit hand picked player's of quality supported by a work your arse off squad

. middy, i've got a few issues with your numbers - the main one being our total spend

. i am not sure what the numbers are for this coming season but the salary cap floor for last season was $2.635m. considering the floor is our target this year - and remembering that we were intending to spend the whole cap last year but didn't - we will be nowhere near the $3.5m your calcs are based on

. at the moment we still have DDS on the books theoretically taking $0.5m out of our floor money and even if Tommy is the only other player still with club likely to be on 'above average' wages - there is not a lot of money left for the remaining 20-odd players. less than $100k per player across the entire squad (minimum salary for a 20+ year old player is over $60k anyway)

Given we aren't the type of team that won't be spending millions on our Visa players, I'd be pretty happy with this signing. Good experience, diverse in that he can play CD or DM, and can teach our young backs, Aspro and Rowles. A CM stock of him, Golec, Aspro and potentially Rowles is stronger than last year overall.

Looks like a decent player and certainly fit enough.

Mm must know his game very well. I now understand him letting baro go. He may be a better leader that will benifit everybody if they get fit enough to get back on the paddock. ( sorry !!) ....... ( it’s the wine).

My bad maybe, I through the new cap was going to 3.5 million I recall reading that some time back when FFA & the clubs were arguing.

So I based mine on a full spent to a cap level of 3.5 mil.

We spend the floor though. I had I thought was 80% maybe 90%. Either way it'll probably be short of 3mill.
