Seriously what is the obsessions with SIGNINGS SIGNINGS SIGNINGS NOW NOW NOW?

They'll happen when they happen. We won't be kicking off with 15 players ffs

Last pre season we all got excited by Okon and the team he built only to end up feeling like it was a worst year than TW and Moss.

I have faith we have a good coach and not a muppet, signings are nothing without a good coach.
Plenty of people thought okon was the guy. He wasn't and it's at square one with a TWesque squad.

It’s not an obssession ............. it is the reality of the situation.

Other clubs are cutting squads and the eyes of those cuts, players that would enhance our squad, are being snapped up whereas the time to get together a team for the ffa cup is nearly gone.

It makes the “ min cap money” look like we will be kicking off with 15 players with three of them on crutches.

I would really like to know what juniors are going to be added, but I suppose they won’t be looked at until the gaps that need to be filled are known .

C'mon dude, seriously? The go is that for three years now, we've had a lot of talk about new signings and how it is understood that there's a need for improvements and how the performance is not acceptable etc. etc... Last year and the year before, we had some signings sitting so late that we actually missed out because things couldn't get finalised, and TW even managed to get to a point where he couldn't get a full pre-season in, something that was widely identified as one of the problems for the squad.
On top of that, we were f**king thrashed by the Jest at the end of last season.... I don't like it, the club probably doesn't and I'm sure you don't either, but I think we're getting to that watershed point for many of the slightly less die-hards... Something's got to give and, as someone else pointed out on here, it's getting to a point where I'm finding it ends up being a black spot on my weekends, to go and watch my team play... That's not acceptable, especially not when I'm paying good money to go so...
The obsession with signings is about a need to see a positive outlook and positive changes, we've been promised so much for so many seasons now only to see things delivered half-way - is it really that unreasonable to be looking for actual delivery now?

I don't think we disagree on any of your first two paragraphs but I just don't see what agitating for signings achieves? They'll happen when they happen.

I don't think anyone at the club doesn't understand the gravity of the situation.

. i'll have a go too:
  • i don't think people have been overly obsessed but the context has changed in the last week or so with the loss of Brama and Baro - whether you liked them or not or whether you think they could have performed better ... the fact is they were still two of our better performers last year, under contract and certain starters in this squad (as it stands) or the last
  • as others have mentioned a few of our recent signings will start the season (not the start of pre-season) on the injured list
  • it may appear that (considering Charlesworth's rectal tightness) we are waiting to see what bargains are left over rather than getting players we need before they are no longer available
  • meanwhile we have just opened up our memberships - perhaps less of an issue for an interstate member than say a family struggling to justify a renewal
  • this has brought about an increased nervousness - particularly considering our recent history and recruitment ... and as yet we don't have anything to suggest M&M (Mulvey and Monty) will change that

Yes I believe that is true .............

But the gravity of the situation doesn’t change from season to season ............ and the common denominator is not enough cash. I thought okon was going to break the mould but he broke everybody's heart with his postecoglouesque game plan and now we Are all aware it will be a min cap spend.

The delay in signings reflects the reluctunce of players agents holding out for other offers. Meanwhile other clubs are signing up visa spots at will. It already reflects an early exit from ffa cup.

What agitating does is put pressure on management to hopefully readdress the cash situation and trust mulvey not to turn out to be okon 2.

You’re welcome ......... pass the popcorn
I have run out.:(

So I'm pretty much on what BG said but... It was one of the points in the post you responded to as well.
We have a recent history of leaving the signings late - to the point that it impacts on our season.
The cup is a couple of months away, for sure, but the players need to be in place ahead of the first game, not AT the game or after.
Either way, this is a forum, if it feels like one of the most pressing issues, where else would you raise it? We don't help the club in any way by just blindly clapping along at every announcement.

To get the right players takes time. I'm sure pretty much the whole squad is locked in, but there may be contractal reasons we can't disclose who is coming on board yet. I would rather take a bit longer and get a competetive squad than rush into it and get it all wrong again. How long have MM and Monty been in their positions?

This is where my thoughts are at. There are probably a small handful of signings awaiting final clearance from FFA or medical perspectives.

If we get to early July when I think the players return from holidays (is that right, timeline wise?) and we haven't made more than 1-2 signings then by all means panic stations but I think we'll see a bit this month.

I understand that these things take time and I'm not actually criticising the club for not having signed more players yet, I'm pointing out that the small current playing group combined with the players released and the lack of any sort of communication lately is not exactly faith- inspiring considering a lot of trust has been burned over the last 3-4 seasons. Also we have form in signing dregs at the last minute and this stuff very easily starts feeling like more of the same.

At this point the customer relationship is a confidence game and the confidence has eroded quite a bit i think.

I know the squad’s kind of gone away from the “no dickhead policy” the last few years but getting Carney in would be putting that policy in the bin and burning said bin and then dissolving whatever tiny ashes may remain.

LOL you`ve obviously never met him.
Dave is a really nice, down to earth guy.
I`ve known him since he was eight & he played in the same rep teams as my son.
