Ha! That's funny, you've been tearing strips off the club for years. I'd love to see what happens when you're not keeping your powder dry!

I dont think that is true Dibo.
I tell the truth, even when it is unpalatable. When we deserve a spray...i give one.
When we deserve accolades.....i give them.
The fact you feel the need to argue with anyone who gives an opinion, that isn't yours, is not my fault.
The fact we have been shit for 2.5 years is not my fault.
I believe I have toned down my opinions (after taking the advice of FP) somewhat.
Anyways, lets agree to differ 80% of the time.;)

You mean "you post, I offer up something that you might have missed and put an alternative view, you call me a sycophant"?

Part of the problem is that you think you "tell the truth". That means you're not open to discussion. You're not open to be convinced otherwise - any other argument or point is by definition untrue, and can be dismissed.

I'll continue engaging with people in discussions, and I'm open to having my mind changed when I read something that convinces me, but with you I'm not sure I should bother.

Necevski has inside running to be Mariners' first-choice goalkeeper:
ckt-cs1uuayz0nq.jpg

Ivan Necevski has been busting a gut to keep the dream alive and at 36 years of age, he is poised to make a stunning return to a starting position in the A-League with Central Coast Mariners.

The word out of the Mariners camp is that, at this stage, Necevski is in pole position to be first-choice goalkeeper for the A-League kick-off, ahead of Paul Izzo and Tom Heward-Belle.

And, despite his advancing years, the veteran goalkeeper wouldn’t look out of place in the competition when you consider Melbourne City’s Thomas Sorensen is 40 and Adelaide United’s Eugene Galekovic and Brisbane Roar’s Michael Theo are each 35.

Plus, Ante Covic was still playing in the A-League at 40 last season, for Perth Glory.

Necevski warmed the bench at Sydney FC last season and did not get on the field at all, with preferred starter Vedran Janjetovic playing every match.

Janjetovic and Necevski had battled for the starting spot for several years previously, but Janjetovic had become the first pick in the last two seasons, under coach Graham Arnold.

Necevski was released by the Sky Blues at the end of last season and the chances of him continuing at A-League level were obviously under threat, but he got an opportunity with the Mariners and played in their recent FFA Cup Round of 32 clash with Green Gully, with Izzo on the bench.

The World Game has been told Necevski has since continued to impress with his performances and attitude at training.

Necevski, who last year slotted in a short spell with NSW NPL side Rockdale City Suns as well, has no doubt he is still up to A-League level.

"I’m getting on with what I have to do to be ready to play," Necevski told The World Game.

"I’m physically fit and I can play for a long, long time to come.

"Goalkeepers like myself, Ante Covic, Thomas Sorensen, Eugene Galekovic and Michael Theo have been in the game for a very long time, because we keep working at it and we’ve got that experience.

"I haven’t played too much over the last couple of years, but I’ve got a lot of experience and I’ve been involved with big teams and played Asian Champions League and stuff like that, so hopefully I can bring that experience to the Mariners and we can be successful together."

The only problem at the Mariners is that they currently don’t have a coach.

Tony Walmsley was recently sacked and the club is yet to appoint a replacement, although it is understood they have narrowed it down to a short-list of six candidates.

Necevski said he just had to keep working hard for the rest of the coaching staff and make sure he impressed the new coach when he is appointed.

"I think it’s going to be an open slate not just for the goalkeepers, but for all the players in general when the new coach comes in," he said.

"Hutch (assistant coach John Hutchinson) and the other staff members have taken over and done really well to keep all the boys together and everyone is in shape, so when the new coach comes in it will be an easier transition for him.

"Obviously Hutch and the coaching staff will report back to the new coach regarding how everyone is training and how they’ve been playing, and there will be footage there of the games we have played.

"And when the new coach comes in he’ll have to make those tough decisions on selections, based on all the information he has got.

"I’ve worked hard and hopefully I’ve done enough to be number one, but, like I said, at the end of the day it will be up to the coach, whenever he comes in.

"You’ve got to be ready so that when he does come in you can show him what you’ve got.

"We’re all working hard together and everyone’s getting the best out of each other, so the most important thing at the moment is that we’re still preparing well as a team.”

Necevski has played for many clubs at different levels and experienced plenty of coaching upheavals before.

"I was at Sydney FC for nine years and went through four or five coaching changes there," Necevski said.

"So I can speak from experience when I say the most important thing while all of that is going on is for the boys to stick together and stay tight-knit, instead of going off in little groups of two or three.

"But we are tight-knit and the boys who have come in, including myself, have settled in really well and been really welcomed by everyone at the club.

"We can’t really expect anything more to be done for us, because everything has been done. It’s been great."

I really hope that Ivan hits the ground running in Rnd 1, finding some form and most importantly MAINTAINING IT !!!

Great that there's genuine competition for the #1, BUT would really hate to see our GK position alternating a lot this season due to patchy consistency from either of the two, as it will only cause disruption to the cohesion with the back 4.
'Lack of trust' ...... like last year.

Like you, I do value my own opinion but I'm certainly open to people offering another point of view. If the argument is good then I listen.
I've liked many posts you have put up over the years. It's only when you and Timmah etc post a party political message from the Mariners party.....that's when I don't listen to your counter message.
Generally, I enjoy 90% of your posts.

I don't post "party political message from the Mariners party". I post what I see. It's you that imputes that I'm 'defending' the club. When you do, you take it as a "well, he would say that" - it's an out from actually engaging with it.

I'm frankly much happier to be proven wrong than I am dismissed as a sycophant.

Marcos Rojas has just been released...me wonders if Ricky Herbert would have any convincing power
maybe not the money behind him though

Couldn't agree more. How many people have their hands in the pie?
Excellent decision though, looks a very good young player. I guess anyone new coming in will not know anything about the kids and will take months before they are able to make any sort of decision. I'm all for locking in our best young players for as long as possible.

I'm not questioning whether he is a good player. But we need to give our new coach every chance of success and locking up a spot for three years with a player who has only played one game is a bit insane.

I agree in principal, as we have definitely made insane decisions in the past...the Moss era springs to mind with the likes of Bosnar. As far as Berry goes though it sounds like he has done well, and both Hutch and Monty would have been influential in this decision.

3 year deal is very generous considering were a week away from a new Gaffer.

Seems more like a 'speculative' for the future revenues, hoping he develops well enough to then sell-on.

Makes sense when considering Junior in the DM position will be a 'transaction' sooner rather than later, with his star on the rise with U20 World Cup beckoning.

Just not sure Berry is the one to be speculating on with the 3 year deal. Theres a ton of kid's out there.

The new Gaffer would've been a better sounding board in making this decision on 'a kid' to spec. on, as it's his team that any young kid we hope to sell-on has to come through and fit in with his system to ultimately shine.

Lets hope Berry can make 'the fit' & importantly SHINE !, as it's too late now ........ he's locked in.

Absolutely wrap up talented kids for 3yrs. Don't let them leave. We've put some work into him and is now pushing for first squad opportunities.

Hutch and youth coach and even TW must have seen something in him.

We are not talking about a major money signing or major squad acquisition. No head coach input needed for me.

Plus the new coach is hear to coach the squad not manage his own

Is the next generation coming?

Our championship squad contained a few youth products.

Liam Rose has been exposed and should be maturing this season maybe next. Has national youth honours.

We have Trent pushing on to national youth honours and got some A League exposure last year and should be a valuable sub this year. Might mature in 2-3 years

Berry just got signed for 3 yrs and is pushing to be a piece of the squad this year and could follow Trents path and mature in 2-3 years

We have THB and Pearce in goals

That's 4 capable talents to build a team off (5th excluded as two are keepers and can only play one). Add 5 quality foreigners and you are a couple of piece off a ripping squad in 2-3 years.

Off course this all depends on them all continuing to develop, but gives us a base to build on

Heard on pretty good authority this morning Brett Holman to sign with Brisbane Roar in next day or so. He would of been nice for us, but know we shop in different supermarket to other Aleague clubs

That's exactly what Dibo is pointing out - that you have a sweeping dismissal of any argument that potentially defends the club rather than actually engage in debate of the issue at hand.

There's a difference between being a sycophant and seeing things differently to the other person.

I really hope something happens soon, we know it's getting boring when we start arguing about how to argue...
