Absolutely CAN'T BELIEVE  Walmsley would pass on a 33yo CB with the experience former Australian Youth international Shane Cansdell-Sherriff has, gained at clubs like Leeds United, Rochedale Rovers, Tranmere Rovers, Shrewsbury Town, Preston North End and more recently was part of the recent promotion of English League one side Burton Albion who made the jump from two.

We're in need of another experiened CB, as Ascroft & McGing had periods of 'sketchy-ness' about them at numerous times last season & both still have the training wheels on imo.

You can't tell me that Sherriff will be earning more than $60-$70k at Manly Untd ???

TW could've given him a run in the CC Select game next week !

What a wasted opportunity

I spoke to Shane & he really wanted to come here to play for the Mariner`s.
From what I understand he met with TW / MC & terms were agreed, the handshake was completed & he was awaiting the contract to sign.
A few days later he received an email saying the Mariners did not want to pursue the matter any further.
He was bitterly disappointed with the unproffessional way in which they treated him.
IMO he had so much to offer us as a player & as a mentor to the younger guys.

I assumed as much, after your post a while back alluding to 'something' untoward by the club in dealing with an Aussie Abroad looking to come back.

The fact that terms were agreed upon & hand's shaken, to only be reneged upon is very poor form imo.

Would be interested to have a rough estimate of what $$'s the club was prepared to offer a player like SCS
....... to then only have second thoughts.

Exactly.

After the failed experiment of 'Entertainment' we need stabillity and experience in case the shit starts heading in the direction of the fan again.

If Harry or Jake, when given their opportunities, fail to step up or worse - fall down, a player like Sherriff is there to cover.

He had the added bonus of not just being a CB option, butcould play at LB (which some say we still are light on backup cover with an aging Rosey and an inconsistent Micky Neil)

Sherriff also could offer cover at DM if cards or injuries befell Monty & Tav, also allowing Tav to be pushed up to the #10 role if he can do the job there, which I think he might be able to
..... more than likely if Junior fails to fulfill it.

With the imminent signing of Powell, which is an unexpected 'gift' that landed in TW's lap, as Ernie Merrick really wanted to hang on to him.

Whereas the polar 'opposite' could be said of Appiah-Kubbi
...... Poppa didn't want him !
...... Merrick also didn't want him !
and despite the love from TW & others from his NYL day's at CCM, the simple fact is we're now well stocked in fast wide players.

If Kubbi is signed, cant see us signing any one specialising in the #10 role, with the 'we'll make do' attitude permeating.

442 saying we have signed Powell & Appiah Kubi ... words fail me ...
Slow down middy, NO it doesn't
It states CCM are 'set' to sign. ;)

Most likely Monday morning an announcement will be made.

Hopefully just Powell, my gut tells me different ;)

I really can't remember seeing Kwabs play in recent times and have no idea if he is any good or has potential. Folk on here and elsewhere appear not to rate him though.
I'm hopeful he does have potential still

Seriously Bitch Austin?

Article proves "he's nothing but an ego -with a clean pair of heels"

Cares more about that there's 20,000 people in a Stadium watching, but doesn't care enough that what they're watching is rubbish.

As to 'trying to fill the shoes' that Kosta Barbarouses left ???

Austin ain't even a shoelace when it comes to what Kosta can produce on an average day at work.
This will be entertaining, Muscat a little under pressure losing some of his mainstays, having Austin as a first 11 player. Austin is everything Muscat wasn't and i predict it will end in tears. When he doesn't defend and shows his common value for possession i xan see sgaking hands with the u/20 coach

Powell's a very good signing i think. Appiah less so - but he's still developing at 25 and tbh i'd prefer him to most State league signings at least. But importantly, this is not a first 11 signing - unless he proves otherwise - he's an impact sub that can come off the bench and hurt tired teams with his speed - which is not a terrible idea and which lends further credence i think to a focus on counter attacking football this year.

Counterattack =/= entertainment.

Normally I associate counterattacking with sitting and soaking and hitting on the break - e.g. Mourinho's Inter side years ago - whilst I'd associate 'entertainment' (as nebulous a term as that is in football) with trying to hold the ball and get forward with flair.

Frankly, given our defensive efforts last year, I can see merit to playing a very negative 4-4-2 with two DMs and use a speedy front 4 to explode out of the blocks with quick counters.

Last year we never 'sat', we scrambled.
'Soaking up the pressure' ? well we most def took a bath in the goal difference column.

We struggled to keep possesion for any pivotal amount of time and more often than not - whenever & wherever it was regained, we tried to go forward fast .... unsuccessfully.

That was called 'Enerrtainment'
