Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I'm ok with balard going as he is going overseas but if nizzy going to city is true for me really worries me
As long as we get a transfer fee for Balard. No bargains here, boyos.

For Nizzy? Why spend all this time and money developing a player for him to run out the contract and join another team in the same league for a bump in pay? (Assuming this article is true, of course)

Looks like Shaun got out a good time going by these player movements rumours. I wonder if he saw the writing on the wall?. Niz to City would be horrendous to see and with crowds not being fantastic despite how good tne team is going and would presume they will drop further if such a magnificent player like Niz goes to another A league club. Strange going ons in HQ.

We need to be smarter about how we do things and offer him an upgrade he can’t refuse then sell on as long as we expect there will be bids. If we give him another 100k this season and sell him for even 300k we’re in front, city wouldn’t blink at it and will reap the rewards.

Sad if it's true.

Probably indicates that there weren't many if any options overseas.

Niz and Arslan in the middle. Mctapin will score 40 next season.

Starting to make sense why Shaun left now tbh...

Like I said, if we can't even manage Niz, our most impressive talent to come through the academy then our entire business model is f**ked.
Bit dramatic. This will obviously sting but we don’t know what the club has tried or offered. Or what offers have been coming in for him. It’s easy for me to say give him more money and get it back plus extra in a fee but if the offers don’t support it or aren’t from places the player will go it doesn’t stack up.

Disappointing news (re: Nizzy), for sure. I'm swinging wildly between wanting to march on Mariners HQ and muttering 'çést la vie' and letting the chips fall where they may.

With the benefit of hindsight, of course we should have locked Nizzy (and Maxy) into a long term contract but, some would argue, we can't afford to take those potentially costly chances. Get just one or two of those wrong and they'll set you back years. Meh - I see both sides.

So, I'm just going to take this one on the chin. You win some, you lose some and, if Nizzy goes, it'll be a big, painful loss. But let's see what happens next.

On a slightly related note, I am starting to have some doubts about our owner. When he spoke just after taking over, he promised a lot of things. For one, matchdays were going to be more like they are in the US - live music, muchos food truckage, games for the kids, an interactive fan zone and half time entertainment. That, as well as the action on the field, was going to bring the big crowds in.

But what do we get? The Vinnies version - a bouncy castle, chips on a stick (occasionally) and an inflatable ball that the crowd whacks around during the break. Hardly action to bring in the masses, no?

And what else do we get? Emails from the owner asking us to bring our friends, help out, become the loud advocates for the club on the coast.

Why do I bring this up? Well, because Peil seems to want the cart before the horse. He seems to want success (on and off the pitch) to maintain, rather than investing first and building something that will excite the more casual fans. The players and the football department are doing their bit... but what about the commercial guys? Where is the up front investment that I think fans have the right to expect from a new owner - not much... but enough to see us on our path to something bigger.

And to tie this rambling, word salad of a post all together - is that lack of commercial risk-taking now encroaching on the squad? We took a wait and see approach with Nizzy and now he's probably off.

Sometimes its riskier to do nothing.

Yep agree however we were warning of this for a long time about locking him in and getting a transfer fee on the sale. Getting nothing and leaving on a free and worse still going to another A league club ( i could have even coped with a Caceras roundabout city group deal where at least we got something). I don’t understand why we wouldnt have done this.
