Hoole was an extremely talented footballer as well. Technically gifted. When he was younger he was heads and shoulders above any other footballer and hence broke into seniors at a young age.

The problem with Hoole was his attitude and work ethic. His tyres were pumped so much he believed his own hype and as he aged he needed to step up by working harder and having a better attitude to learning. There is also suspicions of substance abuse which probably exacerbated the situation.

We saw moments of brilliance from Hoole. The away game in Wellington where we won 3-1 he and De Silva were sublime. However, there was way too much dross in there for him not to warrant a professional contract.

From what I have seen from Theo he appears very different in his attitude and ability to learn. To come from being no where in a team coming last at the time to contributing to us is an amazing turnaround. Pure talent would not account for this turnaround.

Err wouldn't you be more worried for the scum losing Aqualina?! ?
I never said Aqualina was better than McGarry. I said we strengthened the left side which was already strong and weakened the right. Storm has been making the decision look good. If he was playing bad McGarry playing well would be irrelevant because we’d be exposed on the right

Not sure how you equate flicking Aquilina and weakening the squad :) Sasha is a way better player and this was a signing we just didnt need (hence why he was got rid of)
Sasha has not played RB when introduced and so far hasn’t contributed much.

That’s not Sasha’s fault that he is put in the position he is but you can’t argue he is Aqualina’s replacement when Monty doesn’t play him there.

We are definitely weak on the right if storm goes down.

He’s come on at RB twice. James Bayliss is also a very good option there (and seemingly above Kuzzy in the pecking order for that backup RB spot). I’d say overall we’ve strengthened and it’s a very astute swap.

Everything I’ve seen he has been pushing high and can’t remember him playing RB but I know you know more than me there but do agree he is not the preferred back up and Bayliss seems to be in front of him for that position.

Is the squad better? Yes McGarry is better than Aqualina but the right side has been weakened I believe for this season but the 2yr extension shows it’s a more long term decision which i am happy with. McGarry has been good.

Playing Bayliss and Sasha as Storms backup is the Mariners way. Giving the young ones ago so let’s hope they grab the opportunity and i am wrong

I think young Bayliss will possibly end up as our RB. Sash is a RWBRM/RW - in the Millar/Miller mold
If we played 3 at the back with him and McGarry as the WB's we would be a very good side in a 352

I believe Hall is contracted for next season but I wouldn’t be surprised after this season and that game today if we don’t see him in our colours again. Feels out of favour and in need of a fresh start.
Has been terrible this year. Getting dragged out attacking balls that he doesn’t need to. I think plenty of clubs would want him and I think he should go for himself and possible longer run in his preferred position

I “was” a huge Dan Hall fan. As a player and a person.
That is all I’m going to say .. except that I very genuinely don’t know what has happened to him.

Only two things I can think of
1 - something happened behind the scenes that we aren’t aware of
2 - that red in Australia cup shattered his confidence and Monty let that heavy burden sit squarely on his shoulders with maybe a few digs in there himself.

last week he got a start out of necessity. Today felt like an olive branch and being hooked at half time says plenty about how it was received.

Being publicly humiliated on the Cummings doco would not have helped either.
