Mariners Squad 2022/2023

Ayongo’s overall impact is a hard one for me to sum up. He bought into the club culture as much as he could (looking outside in obviously) and was obviously a genuine all for the team type player.
He got one excellent assist in Wellington for the dingo but then the own goal. I always thought he was putting too much effort in off the ball and that affected his ability to do better with it.
Clearly a decent player and even better we got some cash coming in, so cheers for that Paul.
At this point in time I reckon DWH is an upgrade. Monty’s had a good January. If jok’s gone then I’d say his replacement in the squad is Lachie Bayliss. Maybe don’t expect anymore signings.
Rich said at the forum 2-3 more players hopefully still to come in

His cover defence to get the ball off the line was first class.
To be thrown on at left back was a bit harsh, but as we know,he`ll learn a lot from that game....
There is a good player there but has not had a good year. For every thing great he has done he has made a shocking error.

Wonder if competition for places is getting to him. Monty has not allowed him any mistakes. Each howler he has been benched next game and Triantis has said thank you very much

or if he just had a couple of errors that have been punished that make it look worse because we conceded and if the opponent hadn’t scored no one would be that bothered

So 2 or 3 signings. What do we actually need? Storm, Beni and Faz back this week. DWH in for Ayongo. Moresche to come back in, you'd have to be looking at defensive options. Triantis and Hall can go mid if needed but we only have Dan Hall to fill a big gap if you want a tried and tested CB. Left back you've got Faz and Storm but Storm goes right a fair bit and Bayliss only been there last game so not tested completely yet.

I'd go CB and LB. However I only want bench quality not starters.

If we are going to go long in this year we need to shore up our defence a bit when we are missing players. Still not completely sold that we can't do it from within. We could also just keep scoring more than anyone else too

I’d be thinking forward planning and depth. Players most likely to earn us a transfer fee any time soon are Farrell, Triantis, Niz/Ballard and maybe Silvera (though I don’t think he will make the mistake of bailing too fast again) or Beni. Depth on wings is ok so I’d go LB understudy, CM and maybe CB but we do have Windust as an option there.

For me it's a left back and central midfielder, while Triantis and Hall can plug a hole for 15 minutes they can't play 90 there, and having both Nisbet and Balard out against City cost us the game.
