I know there's opinion on Staj's first year based on tactics, selections etc. However re-signing someone like Birra to me answers my biggest bugbear of the last few years.

We have attracted good players to start building a team around but why can't we keep them? How come we lost Galloway, Buhagiar, Millar, Wales etc? It's not always as simple as the money we offer, I suspect they didn't see a professionally run club that offered a good chance of personal improvement or team success.

I really believe Staj's biggest impact in the first year is what he's put in place with non playing personnel and it's paying off with Birra re-signing.

Yeah without covid I don't think we'd have kept Birraz.
Someone on here said they overhead him saying he was keen on heading off to Spain, and if not that I'm sure he could have done better than us at this time in our history.
As it stands he's in as safe a place as you get right now and with a stable job. I'm sure it helps he is somewhere he is recognised for his good work too.
But honestly I was sure he was gone and I think covid is why he isn't gone. I'll take it though!

Why did JVS leave? Staj interview on the CCM site today strongly suggests Ziggy is staying as he says we have kept our defensive unit other than Fox. Why not announce it then, his re-signing will bring an even bigger cheer from me than Birraz (and that’s saying something!)...

Even with COVID there were options and I think we’ve done very well to retain him. As Melange said I think he’s seen / been told something that indicates he’ll have a better time this season and that the club is finally turning a corner. Fingers crossed anyway.

Birra is huge, Ollie would be massive.

DRD has been living his best life around the northern suburbs and I’m not even half as confident as I once was that we’ve kept him.

Saw a funny meme today stating “can’t wait for the new season” with a picture of the NYL badge. Not too far off tbh. Perfect chance in this climate to blood plenty of our excellent current crop of youth boys.

It would be foolish to think he's going to get much game time should he go to Sydney, they've got their own prospects patiently waiting and enough salary cap concerns to juggle if his motivation is financial. At least one more season with us would make a lot of sense for both parties.

agree, his family is loaded so I doubt it’s financial
I just hope his attitude isn’t becoming an issue

All of the players signed for Hyundai A-League Season 2020/21
A line has been drawn under a marathon Hyundai A-League season and, for the first time ever, 12 teams are preparing for a new chapter of history.
Three-hundred and twenty-four days separated the 2019/20 season opener from Sydney FC being crowned Hyundai A-League 2020 Champions, following a 1-0 extra-time win against Melbourne City in unique circumstances due to the covid-19 pandemic that turned the competition, and the world, upside down.
For the 11 clubs that competed last season, it’s back to the drawing board to prepare for the 16th Hyundai A-League campaign. For one brand new team, Macarthur FC, it’s the opportunity to announce themselves to the football world.
Months before the Sky Blues lifted that coveted title at Bankwest Stadium, every club began assembling their rosters for the 2020/21 season and, if you have missed any player movements, now is the time to catch up.
The list below includes all players that have signed new contracts to play in the Hyundai A-League 2020/21 campaign since the beginning of last season (Friday, 11 October 2019).
Players not mentioned in this list may already be under long-term contracts with their clubs or they may currently be in renewal negotiations.
