ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Mariners Squad - 2019-2020

hmmm.... Im torn on the 'competition for spots' theme.

For me, competition for spots is something across sports that gets trotted out when squads are unable to recruit genuine starting players. Sydney FC dont really have competition for spots, because they aim to recruit 10 players who are of a high enough quality that their place is undeniable, and of a mentality that they dont need someone pushing them to perform.

I feel we have 'competition for spots' because our only chance is to recruit 2-3 borderline starting squad players, and let them fight it out with a hope that one stands up.

While true our competition is the next generation not the ones right now.

Sydney are to big to play the youth unless they are exceptional. Gersbac is the last i can remember and that was before they got serious down there.

A joey for us is great business if true.

If Nissy isn’t able to beat these guys for a spot then so be it. Rough world sports but staj is picking up sky blues possibly from his connections at SFC and an Aussie rep one at that. Yes please

Makes sense for the players they have a real chance to play here

Agree with the signing, that was more of a comment around competition for spots in general.

For example, we have competition for spots in our striker stocks right now between Matty, Murray and Majok. The competition is because none of them are clearly a starting striker, they are all bench quality (currently), and we havent signed a genuine starting striker.

I get your point especially with our strikers, also the comparison with SFC whilst true we are soooo far away from competing on that level and may never again with the changes coming to the HAL.

I will copy some posts on 442 and can anybody shed any light on them... the thread about SFC signing Luke Bratten

The rumour is we are signing """Ryan Teague"" see posts below
https://forum.insidesport.com.au/2807770/Sydney-FC-set-to-sign-Luke-Brattan

From a potser called sportaddict

Why? Literally why? Sydney have Ryan Teague who has been killing it in NPL and they choose, rather than developing him and giving him a chance, to sign Luke Brattan. Teague is literally the most highly regarded young midfielder in the country. What’s the point of an academy if you don’t use it... Tilio, Teague... the list goes on.

From a poster called sub007

He’s apparently off to CCM.

From a poster called Barca4Life in part it says

I do agree with Teague, captain of the Joeys but looks a player as a No.6
I thought Teague was mentioned a few pages back. I remember looking him up on Google.

This idea bothers me and unless we are creative and effective off the pitch early in this transition we could be in trouble. Stadium rights wouldl go a long way to helping in this.

Mark Moric scored for the academy on the weekend in their big win, so you can assume he’ll be in the NYL squad. Not sure if it was his first game or not.. I know some on here aren’t fans.
I personally don’t know a whole lot about him.

Stadium rights together with having our own IP would be a game changer. Merchandise together with food and beverage income makes the investment in the squad worthwhile.

The other thing that I would like to see would be greater prominence giving to investing in the academies and a hopefully expanded NYL. NS Mariners are now in the promotion position to go to the NPL. CCMA look to be staying in NPL2 and CCU are very likely to be promoted looking to NPL3. So next season we could have Academies related to CCMFC or CCF in NPL, NPL2 and NPL3.

Hopefully under the new HAL administration we get an expanded NYL of 12 teams (adding the two expansion leagues) and play a proper home and away 22 (rounds) played over summer. Then they can be placed in the appropriate Academy side and have the opportunity to play a full season there.

CCMA at NPL2 need to be aiming at getting higher. At NPL2 level the best youth look elsewhere. We need to nurture our own youth but also attract the best youth.

SO...where’s this alledged Baltic/Croation/ Klingon striker ?
Somewhere in the Balkans?
Shrugs... I dunno. Bit slow isn't it.

I should have run Dan over in the carpark at the COE when he stepped out in front of me the other day.
At least we'd have something to talk about.

Also - any confirmations on the Seoul Brothers yet? It appears a done deal just waiting on necessary paperwork delays (I hope)

One was suspended and the other 'retired'. I gather there needs to be proper clarity on the transaction from FIFA?

Not a straight forward ITC.

Would be good to know it’s all sorted out and locked in. You’d hope before trialling both the players and the club would have been given some assurances they are able to play outside Korea following their mistakes and subsequent suspensions. It’s really important we get players on board and ready to go for our FFA cup match.
