Wee Mac needs the Kalifa Cisse retirement package.
‘We are going to call you an Academy Assistant’, and then never see you again - ok?’

That's the way I thought all last season. There have been a couple of comments though that I heard last season and then finally a comment by Staj at Ettalong that gives me some (but only some) hope he might come good.

The first was by Rudan who was scathing at the level of fitness when he first went to Phoenix where MM was. Then we had our own problems with fitness last year which Staj and Anton both criticised. Finally, at Ettalong, Staj answered a question by saying that MM was a quality footballer and with proper fitness has an important role to play (intimating that he was not that fit last season). That may have been a diplomatic answer or it may be what he truly believes. At 32 (not that old at all), and being slight in stature, a decent pre-season may work wonders.

I think we’re going to have a team. Maybe not world beaters, but well drilled and organised under Staj and I’m hopeful it might prove our best season since we were gutted by Arnie.

Important we get back to winning ways early. If we’re low on the table after a couple of months it’s going to be very tough going again.

Yeah consolidation and small progress required. Not going to fix it straight away.
I’m liking the younger kids with Australian rep honours that his is picking up or linked to the most out of all the recruitment.

Hoping for our next golden generation

SO....whose our keeper gonna be ....I would guess that old mate from the yoof will be getting a pay hike...I mean Ive heard nothing but good things about him and if Staj has been looking ...well

He has said he is still to sign a keeper - great news seeing as Pearce is not ready for a full time gig. Id say an Aussie from somewhere given the Visa news of the last few days.

There is still the Croatian piece of the puzzle, and I doubt Staj would have done a flight over to scout players and come back with a keeper.

BBC article:

Ziggy Gordon says he chose to sign for Central Coast Mariners because of his desire to "experience new challenges" after leaving Hamilton Academical.

The 26-year-old pulled out of move to Dinamo Bucharest after the sacking of head coach Mircea Rednic.

Gordon said he agreed a two-year contract with the A-League outfit after "speaking with several teams" and considering his family and career.

"It was obvious to me to sign for the Mariners," he told BBC Scotland.

"It ticks all the boxes and, after many conversations with the manager, I was sold on the project and believed I can make a difference."

Among his new team-mates in Australia, where Central Coast finished bottom of the 10-team league last season, will be former Celtic, Dunfermline Athletic and Motherwell midfielder Michael McGlinchey.

Gordon had returned for a second spell with Accies last summer after stints with Jagiellonia Bialystok and Pogon Siedice in Poland.

His 41 appearances last season attracted the interest of Dinamo in Romania's top flight and his goal in a final-day win over St Johnstone helped secure Accies' stay in the Scottish Premiership.

Arriving next week so if we can get the deal done with the Koreans as well we should have at least 3 of 4 new imports available for the FFA cup. Much more encouraging than Oar and McCormack joining in mid September.

And really...not sure who else would be suitable at this stage?
Agreed, of the others I'd think they either stick with Simon but he shouldnt be a starter and there was the outburst, or maybe at a stretch GG / Clisby based on age and likely to be starting. If this bloke is a natural leader and starting I don't think there's much opposition.

Given the player and origin, Ziggy Stardust to get sent off in his first few matches for a hard but otherwise fine tackle.

Just me or does Ziggy have a bit of a Monty vibe going off that interview?

Btw, Kennedy has joined Lambton where he’ll be 2nd choice to their 39yo keeper who’s retiring at the end of the season.

Courtesy of the Murdoch press:

"The Central Coast Mariners are poised to tie up a quartet of foreign signings within days, including a Scottish fullback and the Korean duo on trial with the club in the wake of drink-driving convictions in their homeland.

Defender Ziggy Gordon will join from Scottish Premier League side Hamilton Academicals, after his planned move to Dinamo Bucharest fell through in recent days and he rejected the chance to play a second spell in Poland.

Meanwhile Korean pair Kim Eun-sun and Lee Sang-ho will be offered contracts once FIFA and the K-League confirm that they are eligible to sign in the wake of being sacked by their Korean clubs late last year for drink-driving offences."

Seems we may have ditched the 'no dickheads' policy.

In the NRL a bloke just got a 1 game suspension for drink driving earlier this year, these guys have copped a year suspension in Korea. Suffice to say its taken much more seriously over there and they are feeling the consequences. I don't think we'll need to worry about their attitude and they'll want to make their case for being able to return to the K league when they've served their time. Worth the risk for us IMO.
