These players need to be minimum HAL standard and stay fit because the rest of the squad is so poor.
My faith in CCM's ability to get it's recruitment right is not great.

I think we all realise this.

However there only eight maximum signings to come and they all need to be better quality than the six names I have mentioned just to be ahead of last season. Far better quality if we want to be competitive week in week out.

This is where the concern is coming from.

Agreed for sure.
Most clubs would have had a solid plan from the Jan transfer window and had preliminary chats and offers ready.
Using the locked in players with pedigree as a selling point to draw others to come around them and join a successful team.

We will end up with players like Fitz, Ingham, etc that only are bench or squad at other clubs.
We will sign them for 2 years an be stuck in the exact same situation next year.

If we are signing players like this that can’t get a spot at another club we should at least be doing 1 year only deals for a complete clean slate in 20/21 and start selling that idea and having discussions now with future stars and still under 30’s like Brillante to build a solid picture for the 2 seasons after and we are much more likely to snag those better off contract players.

I do think there will be some poor teams this coming season - including roar.

I am confident Staj is a genuinely decent coach - but if recruitment doesn't end up being at least encouraging 'dead in the water' could be a fairly a good description for where we're going.

I do think Staj can take a below average team (on paper) to a be mid-table competitive. That's all I'm asking for this season.

And luckily mid table competitive literally means finals football in this laughable league.

The key really is our visa spots and building a spine. If we recruit 4 quality visa players and 2 or 3 genuine HAL level Aussies we’ll be ok. And hopefully even be quite good under Staj.

Our prior recruitment has been mostly terrible, but from what I can tell Staj and Anton are not mugs and will be working very hard towards getting a decent squad together. Problem is that’s very hard to do right now. So we need to hang in there for a bit longer and see how they get along.

Most HAL clubs have a very long “out” list and some have no “in’s” at all as of yesterday so i’m not worried yet. When they all wake from their slumber we need to be announcing as well? If not then I will start worrying. Soooo long until the season starts.

Stajcic has some big gaps to fill, and with how diabolical our recruitment has been in the past few years that is pretty worrying.

Looking at the players we have signed, Gallifuoco seems to be a like for like replacement of McGing, time will tell if he is a better player than McGing was. Gallifuoco is far less experienced at senior level than McGing was but has a better pedigree and reputation. However, the majority of senior experience that Gallifuoco has also arguably comes at a lower level the A-League, in the English Conference and Serie C with only 10 games in the A-League, plus a handful in the FFA Cup and Asian Champions League . If Gallifuoco is our replacement for any of Millar/O'Neill/Aspro/Hiariej/Karacan than I think our squad is weaker, at least on paper.

Tongyik looks to be a replacement for Golec/Cisse/Aspro, he honestly seems like a weaker signing than even than Golec and Cisse. While he did well early on with City, well enough to make the bench of the PFA team of the season, he hasn't shown anything in a long time and is coming off a long injury lay off, if he is more than a backup than it's time to be worried.

I dont agree JP. GG is vastly superior to McGing. Tongyik is better than Golec, remember Nix just cut him after half a season.
Cisse was a Visa player but was slow and washed up and i expect him to be replaced with a high standard Visa player.

The first 2 signings are very promising.

At Ettalong twas said that AS spent most of his time in Europe in Croatia .... looking at some talent... I like that as one thing for sure is they are normally physical strong and technically skilled [especially A-League level] hope I am reading of the tea leafs right.... as these type of players will do well in Hal...

Nix losing some key players. Williams departing now & Durante apparently.
Victory don't have a coach. Do Adelaide?

I came away from that meeting in Ettalong thinking things will be better this season.
I thought at the time it was a bit strange how Anton starting interjecting and thinking it was a bit rude.
Next day I came to the conclusion he was saying things would be different. After a few questions I think he was putting the point across
that it WILL be different under his watch.

somewhere around that area. Don't forget he also went on about Ninkovic wasn't very good to start with.
Basically the whole season. Was he saying I'm getting a player but don't expect too much to start with?
I was told a Serbian player was coming... (just for you Pete...lol)

I didn’t see the whole thing but thought the idea was more of a “you probably won’t know this guy or necessarily think much of the signing but give it a chance and see how he goes” a finding the next Berisha kind of situation.

Agree with everything bar a 9 and 10. Murray and Simon are already contracted and Murray will only get better with time. If Oar is fit he is a fearsome ten good enough to dominate the Eredivise, I think Stajcic can get the best out of him. So only really a backup 10 needed, Gerrie Syaldios has been great in NPL Victoria.

Personally think we should try and recruit Bradden Inman, he's off contract and has had a long career in League One in England and won't take up a visa spot. Though considering Fowler is going after League One and Two players we would probably be out bid pretty quick.

So if Inman isn't avaliable then I think a visa winger is needed, as there is a pretty limited selection of decent Australian wingers at the moment

I’m going to have to disagree with that reasoning JP. I like Murray but it’s incredibly risky to pin our hopes on him, likewise assuming a fully fit Oar will carve up the 10 role. The left wing has opened up and that’s where he looked best for us so far. Simon should not be a starting player and would be lucky to get anything beyond a bench gig at a handful of clubs. That he’s supposedly paid very well is a display of the ineptitude of our previous recruiting. Would anyone be surprised if he ends up playing NPL after his contract expires next year?

We can’t afford to be thinking best case scenarios for players, we need to be realistic and that means a new lead striker and attacking mid/playmaker.
