Mariners Squad - 2019-2020

I'd say we can definitely do better than the spoon but will make it hard to be solid mid table contenders, will need smart buys and everyone firing. Between Judas who wasnt a first team player and IMO at least over paying for Simon we've handicapped ourselves given our limited means. Hopefully we move Hoole on and use his wage better as he seemed to be on more than a fringe player should be.

Id say given teh dead weight we are stuck with, and the number of players still to recruit, we could definitely create a squad that would have done better than the spoon LAST year - but until we see what everyone else does with their recruits for next season, we cant pass judgement. It feels like we are one year behind the game.

Staj made mention of the lack of fitness and had a pointed go at signing Aspro and Gamiero when injured. He also intimated that most of the squad was unfit including McGlinchey. I would say that he expects to see considerably more from McGlinchey with a solid pore-season and more intensive training.

And hey - maybe WeeMac needs exactly that to get some of his form back, maybe it was an issue at the Nix that Rudan changed as well this year?? I dont think anyone here would be the least bit disappointed if he fired up next season.

Nix dumped him for good reasons, simply put he isn't good enough anymore.
We were dumb enough to take him for 2 years and are now stuck with him
He seems happy to continue to bleed the club that he said he "hates" and tried to sue until his contract runs out.

If wee mac put in a run of say 5-6 games in the form he had in our golden years after an excellent high intensity pre season, i’d smile.
But it’s more likely he’ll tear a muscle during said excellent high intensity pre season.

I get that feeling but it seems at least the jets and Adelaide are going to be a bit weaker this year, nix have some work to do too. Brisbane should be stronger but how much is anyone's guess. I'm expecting a decent improvement from WSW.

Unless their U20s are magical, which to be fair they sort of are proving that at the moment, the Phoenix are going to struggle.

Their academy has been churning out some good players but thanks to Rudan they've lost some key parts of their squad to WU and other starting players like Krishna and Durante have moved on. Going to be a lot of moving parts to bring together in the off season. Some uncertainty at the moment around the fate of Williams who is likely to have more suitors
.
According to the last story I saw they currently have the following players locked in: Steven Taylor, Sarpreet Singh, Liberato Cacace, Alex Rufer, Louis Fenton, Callan Elliot and Oli Sail. Supposedly bringing in an NZ keeper to replace the one they lost.

Wait - I wasn't a big fan of re-signing WeeMac either given the history, but did I miss something? When did he say that he hates the club? And if he does, why in the world would he come back?
I thought the reporting from Pete et al, when seeing him in Wellington was that he had fond memories of his time here (presumably excluding how it ended)?

When he was suing the club to get out of his contract I believe

I have faith in Staj getting our squad fit and disciplined at the least, so that’ll be a step up on last couple of years at least.

They clearly want to bring in some quality, worry is, and they stated it last night, it’s not easy getting players to the Mariners right now, and we’re going to need to earn some positive reputation back.

Definitely not my reporting - I’ve not spoken to him. Only allowed to contact him through his lawyers. #HesGonnaSueInAMinute

Wasn't Ingham signed by MM before he got punted but hasnt been announced yet?
I'd say not getting the spoon next season will be a massive achievement given the dead weight in the squad that can't be got rid of until next year.
Judas alone takes up the wage of a high quality AL player.
This won't be an easy fix
What is Judas being paid???

Wombats never been sick a day in his life. :innocent:

Was working on crutches the Monday after breaking my ankle against Umina. Got many large sympathy orders that week.

But that was as a sales agent. As a sales rep i would have had at least one week off.

But i'm still no wiser to what a DR is?
