Alen Stajcic commits to Central Coast Mariners until 2022
The Central Coast Mariners are pleased to announce that Alen Stajcic and the club have reached an agreement that will see Stajcic appointed as Head Coach until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2021/22 season.

Stajcic commenced his role as Caretaker Coach of the Mariners on March 12 and upon signing a new three-year-agreement, highlighted the Central Coast Community’s support as a key element to the Club’s success.

“I would like to thank the Central Coast Mariners for inviting me to this great club,” Stajcic said. “It’s been an absolute privilege being the Caretaker Coach of this team.

“For us to become a successful club again, we need the support of the whole community and we need to show mental toughness and resilience to once again become the proud symbol of the Central Coast.

“I’ll never forget walking through the doors on day one. To feel the welcoming aspect of the club, the warmth from the people within the club, to see the hardworking people behind the scenes, it really was eye opening to see how much these people love the club, how much passion there was.

“Now that I know that I am going to be here for the next three years we really need to set our mind on building this club. We all know that it’s been a tough few years and nostalgically we look back to the glory days, but we need to reflect on the past few years and think about how we can rebuild,” Stajcic said.

Central Coast Mariners Chairman Mike Charlesworth highlighted that the focus for next season has commenced.

“The Central Coast Mariners Board are delighted to confirm the appointment of Alen Stajcic as Head Coach for the next three years,” Charlesworth said. “Alen boasts years of success as a coach and in his short period with us, he has made a very strong and positive impression with his attention to detail, hard-working ethics and his drive and ambition to be successful.

"The Board is now working very closely with Alen to ensure that he and his staff have access to the resources needed to build a competitive squad for next season and beyond. This remains the club’s number one priority.

“The focus for next season's squad recruitment is already in full swing. Alen is currently in Europe scouting potential players for next year’s visa spots.” Charlesworth said.

Wonderful, first big announcement done. Onto the next, tell us which players are getting the boot.

Charlesworth saying Staj will have the resources to build a competitive team is the biggest “yeah right, f**kin prove it mate” I’ve seen.

It is very pleasing to know Staj is already over in Europe sussing out players though.

When is the medal dinner btw? That’s usually around the time player departures are announced.

I'm happy with this. I believe Staj has what it takes, that the independent A-League may open some purse strings, that the new board members are capable and motivated and that this off-season might actually involve planning and strategy beyond 'let's bring back some mongrel of old'.

So there is hope. Fool me once etc., so I'll reserve any more than that for seeing what actually happens.

It's promising they're starting with Visa players. As I said in an earlier post - a new/proven coach with some early quality recruits will provide the momentum to attract players that want to be a part of a resurgence.

Overall: encouraging.

Now for Charlesworth to give Staj the resources he needs.
Mulvey was best resourced since GA so no reason to think he'll get less. does he need a heap more? not necessarily if we get the signings right.
no more foreigners much over 30 for starters. young blokes with kids definitely. npl killers sure. overlooked yoofs ok.

I know a couple of OG marinators that are thoroughly underwhelmed with this announcement....although that might just be Charlesworth-itis

I think most of us are terribly apathetic to the club currently. I’m so weary. I won’t be renewing until we’ve put in some signings and the schedule for next year is released.

It’s funny because after they sacked okon I was keen for Staj he just wasn’t available. I should be pumped but I’m not.

I'd be one of those. My thoughts are well documented on here.

Changing coaches when nothing else changes will only yield similar results.

Waiting to see if those other changes take place but won't hold my breath.

There is a different vibe, a different work ethic since Staj has been aboard.
They were still training at Pluim today including Gameiro, Oar, Pain, Millar and Aspro. Under Mulvey they would all be on the beach or in the pub.

The kid with the Bandana was trialling. Shabow looked good, is he able to play for Yoof?

To take this gig as coach is a massive liability in the current format , all the post Arnie coaches have killed their career paths never to be seen , I'm sure Stadj has had time to reflect on the job at hand let's hope our last game isn't a reflection of what's to come . As a member and a season holder I'm am putting this one on HOLD I'm not prepared to tolerate the crap that has been dished out in the past four seasons I really struggled to the point of numbness take or leave it attitude so massive changes need to be made and realistic goals need to be set by the club .

Welcome Staj.

Is he the man to take us back to out glory days or to our death? Time will tell.

I believe we will be better next year. With this squad alone he did enough to show he is a lot better manager than Mulvey.

I’m going to throw my two cents on Staj Being a success.

Recruitment is the massive priority now.

Don’t come home without some quality players

His earlier matches show enough to assume that last match was more about experimenting with different positions, testing depth and flexibility to make sure the club knew what they need and what they dont. There's no way Staj thought that was our strongest line up but if it helps us for next season its worth it.

I'm hoping the last game was more a result of not knowing the players well enough due to coming in late.

But the coach is only part of the problem. We need the funds, and we need to sort out the repeated incompetence with signings we've seen lately - mismanagement of Wales, Millar, Clisby, etc....

As a fan I can’t be too optimistic until releases are announced and successful recruitment has occurred. Followed by a strong pre season.

But, I think Staj has shown some very positive signs and 3 years is the kind of long term commitment and statement of intent and belief needed.

Big challenge, but to be the coach who turned the Mariners around would be a huge feather in anyone’s cap and he’d become a local legend. That plus his FFA grudge will see him highly motivated I think.

Which is important. I’m not sure how many of our failed coaches have really given their all in the same way that Lawrie and Arnie clearly did. And with a smaller, regional club. That’s essential.

Anyway, welcome Staj. Wishing you and us every possible success. The fans sure as hell deserve a change in fortunes.

Yeah I think the release list is almost as crucial as new signing news. We have to cut the dead stinking rotting wood. Ie, kennedy, Hoole etc

If shabow has been told he can talk to other clubs hopefully wee Mac can too.
Go back to Scotland mate. 3rd División over there would suit him.
Central Coast United should hit up Simo. As much as I love what he is for this club. He’s well past it. Decent leader most the time but we need a quality goal scorer not just for results but to help Murray along too.
