ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Put money on us to make the six. That is a smart bet. Last time I looked we were 3.50.
That’s easy money if we land a starting striker.

There's no question that the thing we now need is a good visa striker, someone who is currently performing well in a quality league.
If that is not possible I wouldnt mind having a young bloke on loan from Sheffield. I was really impressed with Graham and and especially Mallon last year. While Sam seemed to lose confidence after some early errors, it was obvious that they were both hungry and wanted to show the world what they were capable of. In contrast for many of their team mates it was just another day at the office.

Sam Graham is one of the worst footballers we’ve ever had at the club.

Mallon to a degree yes. Graham wasn’t any good for us

The only possible quality player we could get from Sheffield is Monty’s best mate, billy sharp. And even that’s a huge long shot.
Mallon and graham were a big old spit in the face of our youth boys, from the dodgy salesman mulvey.

Too late now - this post was 2009

There is a guy Billy Sharp, on loan from Sheffield United to Doncaster. From all accounts the type we need (okay - just one account - my boss is a Sc**thorpe fan).

Not a marquee - but the type of player you are referring to. Why wasn't our much vaunted partnership used to explore this option when Blackwell thought he was surplus?

I think Sam started the season off well, lost confidence early on, and never regained it. Mallon had real talent and seemed to value every minute on stage where he could show what he was capable of. He appeared keen to get out there and play, while many others were just going through the motions. Perhaps that was understandable with Mallon at the start of his career with some team mates at the end of theirs.
I can see why Mariners youth players could get their noses out of joint, but in general, if I had to choose between development players from Sheffield United or from a lowly club in a football backwater like the Mainers, I'd lean toward Sheffield.
So, have we looked to see if our sister club can offer us anything?

Thanks Wombat, if I did put money on I'd rather the longer odds knowing full well that I have little chance of it bearing fruit, but if it did, then it was worthwhile (like buying a lottery ticket). Illogical I know, so its just as well that I don't gamble.

This is simply a spoof account - stop rising to the drivel

Bit of a contradiction there Michael. We had clauses in place last time Gianni was with the club but he walked out halfway through his youth contract giving the reason that he wanted to concentrate on his uni studies. He then signed for Manly about a week later. He walked out on them to move to NZ when he realised he was eligible for NZ national team and signed in Phoenix Academy. He was offered a contract with the Nix this year but turned it down to trial overseas but when he was unsuccessful there the Nix withdrew their offer and he came back to us. Lack of loyalty isn't a problem for Stajic obviously as he has also signed Majok (who quit the Mariners NYL team one week before the start of the season because we wouldn't pay him as much as he could get in the NPL) and Silvera, who quit WSW halfway through the season because he was sulking about being dropped to the U20s due to attitude problems.
Easy to understand why Michael Glassock headed off to Hong Kong and a huge kick in the teeth to long serving and talented Academy players who have been told there isn't enough money for any more scholarship positions and also that the local Coast boys don't have the same desire and work ethic as those from Sydney and elsewhere.

Started off informative. Ended up political.

MY SINS-mea culpa.

1.I expressed something that is self-evident; that development players in an ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE club are, on average, superior to those of our bottom dwelling A league club. Loyalty is one thing, blinkered stupidity is another.

2. I expressed frustration at Pikeys stinginess which has led to our dismal record in recent years.

3.I expressed frustration at the continual use of a chronic under performer and instead of lauding him.

4.I expressed concern that a player was prejudiced against Gypsies/Roma-how terrible of me!

5.I expressed support for Mallon’s ability and work ethic last year. These were even more noticeable because of the contrasting performance of those around him.

6.I dared to point out the hypocrisy of another member who suggested that criticism of Matt Simon was cowardly.

7. I dared to dislike the band. Apparently I am not alone.

8. I dared to push back against being labelled a troll/spoof account.

9. My worst offence was to mistake this forum for one where discussion and associated range of views was OK. I didn’t realise that that instead it was just an echo chamber whose purpose is to support and promote the perceived wisdom of a few old hands. I won’t waste my time trying to change this.

Just as Ballantyne disappeared after ignorant abuse on whether a change in a coach matters, (and the data supports him) I won’t be back. So pile on everyone, I wont be around to notice; you deserve each other.
