Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

finally retired

I almost jumped in the air when Kim did that ...but I got a shit neck and i didn’t ...but how good was Kim ...gadzooks
it turned out to be pretty good...but could just as easily have been cut out by the Weston player and we would have been under the pump. Hopefully that's a sign that we might get some luck this year.

I'm happy that we are taking preseason seriously and the more games we play the better. Its nice that fringe players are getting a run and showing their ability, but at some point I think we need to use these games for our starting 11 only so that any wrinkles can be ironed out before the start of the season. Anyone know if this is part of the preseason plan?

Still time and players to come. We srill have two months - now seems to be working hard and getting game time minutes into all of the squad

If we can all see the huge gaping hole up front, we must hope that Staj and his team can. A CB and a quality striker and we ought to avoid the spoon (thats all the hope I have TBH, just avoid the f**king spoon)

I’d like to be wrong but can’t see us securing both a quality CB and striker based on our budget and visa constraints (remembering we have one tied up in weemac) plus the availability of recognised local players that are of the level we’d need to recruit to slot in above what we have. We’d face strong competition from other clubs looking to fill those roles with locals.
Seems more like we will fill one with a visa and add depth to cover what we have and hope the end result is greater than the sum of the individual parts. IMO it’s a visa striker and some depth to cover the back line and allow players like Ziggy or Rowles to move as needed.

I’m think we might make the six.

CF and CB like Fulham says and we will and I’ll put $100 on it.

I’m optimistic. This is one of the more interesting years in a while shaping up.

New team in the HAL. Few new coaches. With ours being a hard working and experienced coach with a lot to prove. It doesn’t feel like a rinse repeat or a silver tongue spin in general. Feels like it’s more about hard work, structure and that we’ll be relying on some genuinely talented youth.

To make the six though, beyond some further squad strengthening, we still have a few redemption stories that need to play out well in DDS and Oar. Some potential needs to be realised by our youth and some crucial players like Kim and Ziggy will need to stay uninjured. But if we can do that, then depending on how well everyone else shapes up, I think we can make the six.

Anything but wooden spoon.
I’ll be happy with 2nd or third last.

Yep, I’m keeping my enthusiasm in check. Happy with baby steps this year and then a genuine shot at finals next season. Feel more confident this season of not getting the spoon but have had that feeling before.:overheadl:

Challenging for the 6 would be nice even if we end up landing 7-8 just outside the finals spots. That would signal a turn around and help with our credibility. I don’t want to see us in the running for the spoon in the last few rounds, we’ve got to put some distance on it.

f**k Fulham......that was one of the only times i've posted sober. I'm not joking........we have a proper keeper. A superior back 4 if not injured.
A massively upgraded Midfield and 3 reasonable strikers.

Add to that a professional coach and we are back baby (ok...now i've had a drink lol]

Aside from Ziggy who is our superior back four?

I'd give you the midfield but cannot agree with your striker assessment.

Anyone heard anything about another friendly this weekend? There’ll surely be one. Keep the good preparation train rolling.

Wollongong don't play this weekend, or maybe one of the NPL sides that didn't make the finals like Sydney Olympic or Mt Druitt
