Mariners Sporting Campus aims North Thursday, 9 June 2011
Central Coast Mariners are pleased to announce that prominent local building firm North Construction has won the building contract for Stage One of the development of the Central Coast Mariners Sporting Campus.
Last year the Federal Labor Government committed $10 million in funding to the project, and with this commitment building is set to commence on the clubs state-of-the-art base within two weeks.
Mariners Chairman, Mr Peter Turnbull, said the appointment of North Construction for the initial development of the facility would have vast benefits for the entire Central Coast region.
“The national tender process engaged a large number of construction firms, however we were delighted with North’s submission and are pleased to award the contract for Stage One to a company with roots on the Central Coast,” Turnbull said.
“Upon completion the Central Coast Mariners Sporting Campus will provide vast sporting, educational and social benefits to the region, however this contract with North's ensures local people will also prosper during its construction,” he added.
Development of Stage One of the complex includes the construction of a ten court 5-a-side Soccer Centre, an Aquatic and Hydrotherapy Centre, a tournament sized football field, an Amenities Block, as well as associated infrastructure.
All these facilities will be made available for public use as well as for Mariners Hyundai A-League, Youth and Academy players, providing an elite training and recovery base for the people of the Central Coast.
“Our vision is to make the Central Coast Mariners the club of choice for all football players in Australia,” Turnbull said.
“Ultimately, this facility will enhance the Central Coast Mariners brand and standing within the football community in Australia enormously.”
Managing Director of North Construction, Mr Tim Cornish, said his company is thrilled to have developed an association with an organisation as community minded as the Central Coast Mariners.
“To be associated with the highest profile construction project on the Coast is a real win for our company,” Cornish said.
“As a local business, to collaborate with the Mariners in the development of a facility that will ultimately be to the benefit of our local area creates a win-win situation for all stakeholders.”
Today’s contract announcement ensures development of Stage One of the site will be completed before the end of September, with Stage Two set to kick off prior to the end of 2011.
When fully finished, the Central Coast Mariners Sporting Campus will feature:
· Two full-size football field and a grandstand for up to 3,000 fans;
· A function, event and reception centre for club and community use;
· Up to ten all-weather sports courts for 5-a-side soccer and other sports use;
· A heated aquatic and hydrotherapy centre for community use;
· A gym and fitness centre for community use;
· Facilities for delivering educational learning programs;
· A sports medicine centre;
· Amenities and car parking facilities and an upgrade to the Wyong Road Roundabout
In addition to announcing North Constructions contract win, the Mariners can also confirm a 15-year lease arrangement has been agreed upon with ‘Soccer5s’.
Soccer5s is a phenomenon that began in Scotland, providing a platform for players to develop their ball skills and tactical awareness.
Soccer5s will host a variety of leagues, tournaments, casual games and even club training within the 5-a-side soccer centre to be located at the Central Coast Mariners Sporting Campus.
The Central Coast Mariners are engaged in progressive discussions with a variety of interested parties for the use of other facilities – including the Aquatic Centre – to be developed within the Sporting Campus.
