This one's out of left field but I can confirm there was a Man Utd scout at the ground tonight looking at Matt Ryan.

He was involved in a free kick/I'm injured scenario, that the crowd didn't like. I think after the Nagoya Grampus debacles,
people have become pretty touchy ;)

Rosey was just atrocious tonight.

Pedj reverted back to under tens and became incapable of passing.

It worked out that Seongham should have put us to the sword and they dropped points tonight.
But it's a pity, winning this game was certainly within our capabilities.

I felt our forwards in the second half showed some more positive signs and thought McBreen had a good game as did Kwas.
Sutton, did better too, I wish he was a tad quicker though.

Yep
They were pathetic tonight.
Two main culprits.... Little old wannabe dickhead with short hair...that offered out a group of blokes at back of bay 17 and maggot with blond hair that apparently loves punching people when they are defenseless. Piss weak effort and a word to the wise, the bloke you were dog-shoting while your mates held him, would murder you one on one.
You are a coward and a disgrace and hopefully whatever clowns run security at BT will make sure you don't work there again.
Probably a wife beater.....sorry highly unlikely to have a wife....probably beats his dog and girlfriend.

Oh onto the actual football.

We were shite first half but McBreen and Kwassie inspired fightback saw us much better in second half.

Movement in the first half was diabolical. Pedj made one decent run off the ball and no one else even bothered....I've seen under 10 sides with better movement.

Ryan 7. Decent.
Rose 5. Shite and penalty was pathetic.
Pedj 6.5. Not the worst. Bit loose defensively but had a go.
Wilko 7. Decent
Dutchy 7.5. Our only calm player.
WeeMac 5.5. Was he even out there.
Hutcho 6. Lackluster
McBreen 7. Shite in first half but really had a go in the second.
Olly 6.5. Terrible lazy effort in first half but really made a difference when he had a go in the second.
Sutton 6. One lovely effort in first half is not enough. Really enjoyed when he dropped keeper and defender in the one challenge.
Kwas 7. Anonymous in first half but tremendous in the second. Thanks Kwas for keeping us in the game.

The first half was pretty boring.
We were very flat with little to no movement up the front, which made it very difficult for the midfield to play to the front-runners.
The Koreans on the other hand were very quick, with their strikers making angled runs, which drew our defenders out of their comfort zone & opened holes in our defence.

It really was a case of when they would score but we miraculously held them to 0-0 at halftime.

The second stanza saw our boys lift a gear & we started to take the game to the visitors. Our efforts were rewarded when Kwassie scored after earlier hitting the post.

Our lead was short-lived however, when some poor marking gifted Seongham a goal.
Minutes later Rose brought down a Seongham player (on the edge of the box)& was duly penalised & sent off.
The ensuing penalty hit the crossbar & we lived to fight on albeit with 10men.

From there both teams had chances to score but were unable to capitalise on their opportunities

Ryan 7: Made some good saves, should have done better when they scored but may have seen it late.Distribution was off tonight with many passes failing to hit their target
Rose 4: extremely poor game.Turned the ball over cheaply & made little impression when attacking.
Dutchy 7.5: a few errors but very solid
Wilko 8: not flashy but defended well
Pedj 4.5: Is rapidly becoming more of a liability than an asset.Has no idea in attack, failed to pass when there was options & continually turned the ball over.
Hutcho 6: tried hard & does some good things but then loses the ball & puts us under pressure
Olly 5: has so much potential but drives me nuts the way he steams forward then puts his foot on the ball & passes it 30m back.Very frustrating.
Weemac 5: really struggles when Pedj plays crap
McBreen 7: was awful in the first 15minutes but gradually got into the game.Needs to get rid of the flicks(which never seem to come off)& concentrate on short crisp passes.
Kwassie 6.5: so unpredictable his left foot doesn`t know what his right foot is doing. He doesn`t seem to have retained any football knowledge from his junior years yet scores some crucial goals.
Sutton 6: his forte seems to be holding the ball up in the box & his aerial power.Did some good things but looked so bothered by the warm conditions

Subs:
Gallagher 7 : covered for Rosey very well.Very fast. He`ll put a lot of pressure on Rose next season & it wouldn`t surprise me if we see a lot more him in the top grade.
Bernie 7: made an impact & looked dangerous at times but has to learn when to relese the ball.
Hearfield : not enough impact to give him a score

Crowd : estimate around 4,000 which was pretty poor.

Ref & assistants:probably the best ACL ref`s we`ve had .

Nagoya 3 Tianjin 0

Need to get a win now

http://www.the-afc.com/en/tournaments/clubs/afc-champions-league/935-afc-champions-league-2012/38587-tianjin-teda-v-nagoya-grampus

Tianjin: Nagoya Grampus posted the first win in Group G of the AFC Champions League after easing to a 3-0 win over Tianjin Teda on Tuesday.

With the first five games in Group G ending all square after Central Coast Mariners and Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma earlier shared a 1-1 draw in Australia; Nagoya moved two points clear at the top of the table.

Jungo Fijimoto opened the scoring with a superb chip midway through the first half, and after Keiji Tamada doubled the visitors' lead just after half-time, Kensuke Nagai sealed the win.

"The match became quite simple after we scored the third goal. Our team played well by playing our own style, and best of all we got three points to go back to Japan with," said Nagoya coach Dragan Stojkovic.

"There is no manager who would be unhappy about a 3-0 win, but what I am most satisfied with is that we played our style, and we were rewarded for that.

"I've been coaching this team for five years and I have always tried an attacking style with an emphasis on team-work."

Fijimoto's exquisite chip broke the deadlock after 24 minutes at Tianjin Teda Stadium as the midfielder calmly lifted the ball over helpless Tianjin goalkeeper Song Zhenyu from inside the penalty area.

Keiji Tamada's left foot volley doubled the visitors' lead four minutes after half-time following a swift counter attack from the visitors.

And with 17 minutes remaining Nagai rounded off another Nagoya counterattack after Tianjin had conceded possession.

"I think Nagoya deserved the win. We realised that they were so strong after just 15 minutes. Individually they were very competitive," said Tianjin Teda coach Josip Kuze.

"We struggled to hold our formation after conceding the first goal which made things more difficult.

"In the second half, they took advantage from our mistakes and built two beautiful counterattacks. They showed us how to execute that kind of counterattack.

"They were much better than us and deserved the win

I'm not sure we were all watching the same game, given the negativity from many here.

I thought we did pretty well against a K-League side who pressed on our flanks keeping Pedj and Rose pegged back, and with 10-men still looked capable.

Rose's tackle was straight from last weekend's on Henrique and wasn't on, esp. with Ryan coming out to cover.

Crowd btw was 5,018 (which is what it looked).

My thoughts too Kev.

I thought there were two pretty evenly matched teams out there last night and we did well, showed a lot of composure for most of the time and perhaps should have come away with more than a draw.

We had our usual weaknesses raise their ugly heads - Pedj's desire to beat 3 men and ignore a simple pass, and style_cafe hit the nail on the head with his observation of McBreen's first 15 mins... to many attempts at the fancy flick when more control was called for. However, he did show a lot of character by just being out there as I believe his father's funeral is today.

All in all, I dont think there is anything in Asia to be scared of. Sure there are better teams out thee, but at least we have proven we belong in their company.

While I agree with most of the points given out above, I disagree with some of the comments.

There was plenty of movement up front in the first half with McBreen and Sutton regularly getting into the space between their midfield and defence, but not receiving the ball. McBreen made a couple of good timed runs that were not rewarded.

The service from our midfield is particularly slow.

The problems were accentuated by the visitors getting heaps of players behind the ball, playing home and away style football, ie take the point away and get the win at home.

McBreen is not agile, nor creative enough to be a true AM. When he adequately fills that role we really need Hutch to play higher and with more aggression in attack.

Wee Mac is probably our best one on one player but generally goes too far and gets caught in a bad position, delays his pass too long, or loses the ball. Needs to get his head up earlier, find support then look for the return ball.

Ollie is becoming more defensive in his play after each rep trip. Maybe it is time for he and Hutch to swap positions.

I thought it was Sutton's best performance so far but Rose's worst. Their goal was not his fault, he got caught in the position of having to mark two players in front of goal, but was not comfortable before then, and was lost after.

All in all, we salvaged a point but should have taken a win.

C+, can do better.

I'm with you Ancient. I really think most of our problems lie with Hutch. No I am not a Hutch basher. He does a good job screening the centre backs as a traditional DM. However, he doesn't fulfil the deep-lying playmaker role that Mile and then Rostyn performed so admirably. When the defence doesn't know whether you will make a run, try a defence-splitting pass through the middle or bring the fullbacks, and wide midfielders into play it creates more room for everyone.

It is no surprise with the loss of Rostyn that our fullbacks and wide midfielders form has also dipped. I don't know whether Ollie is the answer, especially given his diminutive size - but it is the major area of concern.

IMO Hutch has played really well in the LM role when played there this season.

Hutch was worst on field last night. Did not have the ability to keep or distribute the ball and resulted in many poor passes or inexcusable turn overs.

Pretty much how I saw it, too. If Suttons 'wrecking-ball' manouvre had come off or Wilko's powerful header had been aimed anywhere other than the keeper - different story.

Also agree with pjennings and scottmac about Hutch (and I like Hutch and think he's played some great football recently), but can't really see a viable alternative CDM. I wish some of our guys would back themselves in the final third and have a crack more often than farting around looking for someone else.

Really interesting script from here though. Looks like Seongnam, ahead of us on goals scored, is the team we most need to beat to secure 2nd place. As we all know that game is in South Korea and 4 days before the Grand Final, should we make that. (And ACL clearly is important to Arnie so he won't hold back - it'll be interesting to see how he sees strategy and shape for both games).
I'd hope travel is daytime as far as possible to avoid sleep deprivation and that players likely to remain an unused sub (and of course Rosey) doesn't even travel this time.

And to note - this draw has already made this the Mariners most successful ACL campaign so far.
3 games in hand to improve this further and experience to benefit our guaranteed 3rd campaign next year.
