ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Mariner stuff not worthy of a whole thread

Not likely - a couple of years' Uni study in French 15 years ago means that I was once pretty handy with French grammar but my vocab has always been a bit rubbish.

I've got enough to be a tourist, and I can read the paper (to a point) but full pace singing or conversation is a struggle.

I took two months off work (I have a good employer) and spent July and August working as a volunteer at an Orphanage in Lome, Togo. It was a French Colony until 1960, hence the French.

It's pretty basic at the orphanage. They don't have a lot to amuse themselves, but the boys love soccer and they take any chance they get to play with a very battered ball outside on the 'street'. There are a little over 30 kids from 4 months to 15 years, and they love doing / learning anything new. So just for fun we used Van Morrison's 'Brown Eyed Girl' as the basis for a song to my favourite football team. Just before I left I got a few of them together and videoed it. Unfortunately many of the kids had work to do at the time, so there were only a handful available for the recording, and I have to say they didn't sing it, so much as chant it. But they had fun!

A friend of mine who is still there wrote to me the other day and told me the kids are still singing it!

I have to assume that Dibo speaks French (no doubt better than me), hence his interest.

. well done and congratulations

. should we be doing a fund-raising to send them a mariners care package - if they are in desperate need of a new football?

East Gosford Thai Massage would like to support this.

I pledge $50 to any collection and will donate a Mariners cap and polo shirt.

Atomic or BK if you want to organise something let me know, otherwise I will leave the items at the shop and you can pick them up when you like.

Lets all support Fish's dad!!!

I also have heaps of dolls (spoilt last child) that you can have as well if you think they would like them.

Fishsdad,

What are your feelings on the feasibility of the logistics i.e. actually sending something and it ending up in the
right place, what size 'package' and what would be the best method to send something?

Years ago we sent some Mariners footballs, a pump and some other stuff to a semi-remote village in Vanuatu which arrived fine by post (and it saved the kids from using a coconut as a football) but I wouldn't know the first thing about sending something to Togo.

BG, Wombat, Atomic et al - you folks are legends! (Of course you are - you're all Mariners supporters...). Tyson from the Mariners office was the one who posted the clip on the Mariners web site (he is a very helpful person), and also offered to send club gear to the orphanage. I have to admit I'm a bit nervous about shipping goods - no telling what 'gates' they have to pass through once they leave our shores. But it strikes me that the club's major sponsors consign food all over the world. They certainly have the expertise; I wonder if they would give us a hand with this?

Everyone - thanks!!!

Happy to chip in as well. Good news story for the club as well (might as well milk any pr we can)

The Cove have raised a bucketload to sponsor women's team. That's a great story

. ok guys I will try and contact young Tyson on Tuesday ... I think the sooner we knock this over the better. If things go well I can do a collection at the game next week (much the same as I did for the megaphone for those that remember - and no surprise the same names are putting their hands up again)

. speaking of the megaphone fund ... I have been holding the small amount of excess funds waiting for the next fundraising event - so if there is no objection from those that contributed last time we can put that money towards this effort too

No problem BG. Great work. Start a new thread and see what funds we can raise. Maybe MC and PS can chuck in as well.

Sorry to be a hassle but for those who can't make the game is there any way to donate?

I know BG is contacting Tyson, and I've just written him a quick email asking if it is possible to drop stuff off at the Mariners office. Let's see what he says. I'm so thankful to all of you for your help, and I'm happy to do whatever running around is necessary.

MODS, I don't want to give out my contact details publicly, but if anyone wants to get in touch with me privately for this, please feel free to pass on my email address to them

If Tuggerah is too far you can use the shop at East Gosford as a drop off or like BG said we can meet up near Merch tent like last time.

Let me know anyway i can help.

Its so cool that a bloke that spent 2 months in Africa helping people is touched when a few of his peers offer a relatively small gesture of support.

Maybe the club might allow you ( I'm happy to help go around) to do a collection at half time for the orphanage?

It's a nice idea, but >99% of fans wouldn't know what the collection was for. I don't think all that many people have seen the video, and even then they may not connect the collection to the video.

I'd be delighted to be able to put a package together and ship them off to the Mariners supporters at the orphanage. In fact I received an email from another volunteer that the kids are still singing "Les Marins"!

Ok.
Shall we meet at the Merch tent at half time for anyone who wants to donate money, mariners merch and toys etc.

. Ok guys I have finally got in contact with Tyson yesterday and the Mariners are very happy to help out with merchandise, but they can't help with the delivery of the parcel.

. I have done a rough estimated cost via Australia Post and it not cheap. It all depends on weight and what type of delivery we use.

I am quite happy to collect money at the Kendall Bar and at half time near the Merchandise stand.

. If a few of you guys are at the Kendall bar we might wanna have a chat as to how we proceed and maybe holding off until the next home game

I think holding off until the next home game is a good idea.
Then you or FD can organise it properly, using the clubs website, this forum and Facebook to get it rolling at make a difference in these peoples life.
Great work peeps.

Im happy to throw in a free 1 hour massage (my shop is awesome, i kid you not!!) certificate.
Maybe some other small coast businesses could help out?

Talk to Erin, he is a cool dude and I'm sure would be happy to support and could add an article in the Last post.
