Guys showed great heart sfter going behind 2 zip and tbh we deserved more. The Roar were always one foot in the final but for 40 minutes or so we really took it to them. If we could have gone up 3-2 then anything would have been possible. Hard to fault any of the players. Hopefully next week brings us some joy. Might be alone on this but thought Kwassie and Sutton were good together tonight.

Offside first goal, constant fouls against us for dives, blatant handball in the box not given, no where near enough added time for the constantly on the ground meow players.

All this after the joke of a ref in the first game and it's hard not to believe the conspiracy theories.

We were magnificent and if we get the handball decision it would have been a different game.

Don't really want to give any more hard earned to the FFA next week and considered not going, but suspect i'll change my mind by Tuesday.

And if that crowd was only 10,000 then i've never been to a game. Very creative accounting indeed - wonder who's pockets get lined with the extra?

Can only think we pocket the difference.

Crowd was 12,500+.

We were slow and flat footed for first twenty minutes but superb for next 50.

We were the better side and had no luck but we also didn't press enough defensively.

Ryan 6.5. Not his best game.
Rose 8. Back to form and close to MOM. 10/10 in attack but 6/10 defensively. Overall very impressive and gutsy.
Pedj 7. Decent.
Wilko 7 decent
Dutchy 7.5 has so much composure and has big balls. Couple of errors but a leading light as usual.
WeeMac 7. Invisible early but as soon as he got involved we started to play. Better effort.
Hutcho 7. Solid game.
Bozanic 7.5. Tried so hard and really took it to Brissy.
Rojic 6.5. Very ponderous off the ball but looks great when it's at his feet. Work rate needs to lift dramatically or Amini should start.
Kwas 8. Brilliant effort from Kwas. First half he was magic. My MOM.
Sutton 7. Decent game and some good lay-offs in the first half. Still not fit enough.

I thought Sainsbury looked quality when he came on tonight.

Proud of the boys tonight although think it was a big error

An awful start; a storming comeback; a heartbreaking loss. If you are going to chase a 0-2 deficit at home then you don’t need Brisbane getting a fortunate goal after one minute. These goals direct from out wide free kicks are an embarrassment at the best of times but on another day Nicholls could easily have been judged offside.

The second goal showed exactly why the Mariners always struggle against the Roar: it was classic simple well-executed Brisbane football. The ball went wide left to Broich and then play switched wide right to Henrique; Rose gestured frantically he needed help as Franjic came steaming on the overlap – two against one – Henrique cut inside and slipped an easy pass to Nicholls whose run had not been tracked by Hutchinson. Nicholls coolly slotted the ball home. The tie was all but over, Perth were booking their tickets to Warnervale airport (sic). it took the Mariners 18 minutes to fire a shot at Theoklitos.

And then Superman entered the game. Patrick Zwaanswijk stormed onto a ball around halfway, took a couple of strides, lined up his sights, and thrashed a daisy cutter into the bottom corner from, oh I dunno, 25 maybe 30, maybe 100 metres? It whistled into the net and the whole team lifted. It was an inspirational moment from the season’s most inspirational player.

When Kwasnik, fiercely competitive on the night, clinically slotted home the second the Stadium erupted. The Mariners cranked it up a couple of gears and put the blow torch to the Roar defence. If they had scored a third, and they came damn close, they would have had the momentum to carry the tie but a second dubious piece of refereeing cruelly stopped them when Henrique clearly handled and penalty claims were denied. The ball hit his hand but his hand was raised and wide of his body. It was a penalty; the Mariners wuz robbed.

Brisbane were rocked back on their heels and after a token spirited start to the second the traffic continued to be all Mariners. We were playing good football, the crosses were almost touched home, Bozanic had a fine shot saved, Patrick headed wide, we were really pushing for, and deserving of, a third goal until that nasty little diving pain in the back side Henrique caught us on the break. Game over.

The spirited Mariners had given their all and for almost an hour gave us really good powerful attacking football. It isn't over yet. Well played Brisbane, you won it in the first leg and in the first twenty of this game. I only hope that when we meet you in the GF in two weeks that the pendulum of good fortune tilts our way – it certainly did for you in this one.

The players-

Ryan: all goalkeepers are embarrassed when beaten by long out wide free kicks; he was efficient as ever after that
Bojic: really struggled with Broich. Unable to provide any real attacking impetus on the right. There are times when the ball seems to be his worst enemy
Rose: attacked well, almost broke through to score, and worked hard all night
Wilko: calm, measured in control as always
Patrick: Superman. Inspiring player who lifted those around him.
Hutch: started poorly but then controlled much of the game. Very competitive in the middle of the park
McGlinchey: worked hard but struggled for impact without having Bojic as consistent outlet
Bozanic: worked really hard; almost scored; played a big hand in Kwasnik’s goal.
Rogic: he is difficult to contain but needs to provide a cutting edge to his creative skills.
Sutton: probably his best game; much more involved. Saw more of the ball, and kept things moving
Kwasnik: he wanted to play and it showed. At his eccentric best in the first half. Quality goal.
Subs: Amini and Ibini – if Arnie wants to get the best out of Amini and Ibini they have to have much more time on the park – they are game breakers.
Sainsbury: stepped into the Patrick role with aplomb. Moved the ball well – I like this kid - after a shaky beginning to his Mariners’ career he has a real touch of mongrel about him.

An emotional ride tonight.
From the disappointment of going 1-0 down early, then 2-0.
It really was gut wrenching.
Brisbane just picked us apart. They took advantage of the space behind our defence with passes reminiscent of the great Liverpool sides of the late 70s early 80`s.
We had our chances though, but just couldn`t put it away.

When Dutchy scored a cracker it was game on & the real Kwassie followed not long after. At 2-2 we were looking good until Henrique( the diver) snuck in behind us to grab the winner.

It was good to see Bozanic have a good game.He must have read my post last week & played attacking football. He still has to learn that no matter how hard he its the ball it won`t go through the defender, but a very much improved game.

Rosey was also tremendous after the midweek shocker & for mine was MOM.His attacking runs really did the damage for us & his crossing was also varied & enticing for our strikers.

My biggest disappointment was Bojic, who I thought was abysmal. For a proffessional footballer his skills are crap. Some of his tackles are at best crude & his passes atrocious. After this game I`d be paying Sydney to take him. Sainsbury is a much better player & with him at RB we would have more balance in attack & a more stable defence.

Hard not to disagree - there was one momemt when he attempted to kick the ball and I wondered if he had any feet attached to the bottom of his legs.

The boys showed a lot of heart out there. The ref's decisions were average with little support from the muppet of a linesman on the east side. Wet ground was ideal for low drives skipping into goals as good old reliable Patrick displayed. I thought the young strikers should have started and Kwasi, Sutton could have waddled on later when the game slowed down to their pace and they could snatch a goal or three.

The boys aren't going to beat Brisbane in two weeks with shear muscle. They need to be thinking more and making quicker decisions. One touch passes please, preferably to a yellow and navy player.

Corners were discracefull for A League standard. Someone needs a little practice?

Heads up and use your brains boys.

I was pissed off after the game and even more pissed off after seeing Ange on FoxSports news.

Just re-watched the game. In spite of starting terribly it could easily have been 4-1 to us at half-time and Brisbane down to 9 players.

1 minutes - Nichols offside no goal.

22 minute Smith forearm into the back of Suttons head as he is heading the ball in a clear-goalscoring opprotunity. Should be a penalty and a red. Should be 1-0

25 minute - Nichols good goal, should be 1-1

28 miute - Patrick scores, should be 2-1

32 minute - Kwasnik goal should be 3-1

34 minute - Henrique dive should be a yellow

41 minute Henrique handball should be panlty and yellow for denying a clear attcking move, Henrique off should be 4-1,

I also think that Patrick should not have got a yellow since Henrique was offside at the time. Sainsbury, however, should have been a red.

I know that is not how it turned out - but there was plenty to like especially in the first half comeback - especailly since for all intents and purposes the tie was over after a minute.

I think you will find if a player recieves his 1st yellow, he would be less likely to do a 2nd silly thing...I don't think it's fair to say Henrique should have been sent off! Poor reffing is all you can really deduce from that!

His performances this season have progressively deteriorated. For a player needing a new contract I think he has decided his own future.
All players have a use by date & I think Bojic`s has expired.

The red mist decended upon Pedj towards the end of last nights game. There was one tackle he attempted that was nothing more than a shoulder charge. Lucky for him, he missed.

Was that the one towards the end of the game? Ball went out on western side and as the roar player went to get it and Pedj was there he gave a bit of shoulder to the player just for the heck of it.Must have been the just about only decision in our favour last night and that was only becasue I'm sure the ref and linesman didnt see it.

Also when crowd numbers are counted do they count all the kids who come in free on their passes? Is it a count by the turnstiles? I cant believe it was only 9,800 or so. To me it looked like only the end bays werent full. I wouldnt have thought it was much less than at New Years - not 4,000 or so

Disgusting display by Henrique. Looking forward to seeing him suspended the way Perez was but somehow I cant see that happening.

Sounds dodgy...

Perhaps a pre-planned fudge to build a case against us if we DID win rights to host a grand final??

Who's the players in card trouble and what's the ruling with suspensions?

Both our Central Defenders have picked up yellows in each of the semi's - there's been no talk about suspensions for the next game, but I'm wondering if either (or both) picked up another yellow against Perth, would they be suspended for the GF?
