Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

To be honest in the first half, we played some good football. Their goal was against the run of play. But I knew it was'nt going to be our night when we had the goal disallowed.

Without doubt NOT a penalty. Add to that a disallowed goal and you are looking at a game that should have been 1-1. It's only half time and the boys will be very fired up for the second half.

Well that was a great day out only ruined by the result.

I thought we played well and were marginally the better side. We didn't have much luck and got shafted by the officials once again.
I don't know if Breeze is totally incompentant or corrupt, but either was way, he's a complete prick!
Griffith's headlock on Checkers in the 2nd half is the perfect example. He's either stupid or ignores things selectively.

Still if you dont take your chances, you can't win games.

Danny looked superb.

The back 4 was much improved and played pretty well. Good games especially for Viddy & Boogs.
We do miss Heff's maurauding runs down the flank (although Checkers is probably technically a better defender) I think he would have opened up Newcastle in the second half.

Midfield completely dissolved in the second half (how many times has that happened this season!). Kwas was OK but still doesn't warrant a starting spot. He's too hesitant.  I would have taken him off after 50mins and replaced him with Gumps.

Jedi, Hutcho & Tommy did reasonably but we didn't use our flanks well.  Hutcho & Jedi ran out of steam around 55mins. Probably would have taken Hutcho off and replaced him with Owens

I thought Sasho had his best game for a while and was a handful. Often he was left isolated because the middies weren't pushing through.

J.A. tried hard and was unlucky. Should and could have had a hatrick and we would already have one hand on the Toilet seat.

Simon....nicely struck volley off a lovely Gumps cross but straight into the keepers guts. When is this boy going to slot one!!!! Still, it makes the goal he gets in next weeks 4.1 win over the scummers even sweeter.

The Newcastle penalty was not a penalty. It was all ball and the tosser dived. Breeze could't wait to point to the spot.

Brilliant support by the Mariners fans. Yellow everywhere and good noise.  I also thought the Scum fans were pretty decent on the whole. Good natured banter on both sides although I did have to pull my 9 yo up for calling them toothless hobo's (especially outside the ground)

I'm disappointed but also disillusioned today. Of all that has been said on this thread one of our visitors sums it up indisputably:

Thank you and you were unlucky, in reality the score should've been 2-1 to jets.
It shits me to tears that it's an AR's error (can't even blame Breeze) on a valid goal that derails our chance of a direct GF qualification. Down 2-0 is so so different to away goal 2-1.

Nothing else was definite, the best players miss penalties. Ref's make dubious decisions on others. I guess that's football. I just wish AR's that are blind or ignorant of the rules making critical calls weren't.

I think we'll give it a red hot go at home but the odds are against us. I'd happy to at least get a 1-0 win against them, and then welcome SFC or QR to a ravenous Bluetongue in the Prelim and take on the Jets in a blockbuster Grand Final.
Pretty much agree. Accuse me of pessimism too if you like.
I actually have a feeling it'll be 1-1.

BUT if the only time we beat them in 2 years is on 24/02/2008 that'll be much more than enough for me. Prediction 2-0.  :eek:verhead:

I thought that we played well for the 1st 45 and coulda/shoulda been 3-1 up at HT (on another day we would have been).

2nd half we were very flat and werent able to get any width which was what was causing problems in the 1st half.

As for team changes. On that showing, Kwassie should be replaced by Gumps. He was too deep and gave that little traitorous piece of human offal too much room.

Saso was just crap. Greedy & lazy IMHO.

Can we score 3 in the 2nd leg. No, I dont think so.

Random thought

Can we find out the firm who had the box that was behaving so badly?? If we can lets start an email campaign and out the wankers and see if we can get that tool the sack. I think there were pix being taken of his criminal behaviour.

There was no way Aloisi was offside - where's your guide dog - RA's?. :pirate: I was proud of the way everyone tried and kept pushing, but we need a compass to find the back of the net after yesterday.
Viddy - you were brilliant  :-* :vhappy:

Let's hope that Pim selects plenty of Jets in this final squad and PLAYS THEM. I few injuries wouldn't go astray.
Oops, I'm so  :naughty:

Am I alone in thinking that it is not so bad if we (Mariners) DON'T go straight to the C'ship match (GF) and have to play Sydney or Qld?  Obviously the downside is that we may miss out, but I think that it is easier for a team that has to go the hard route, rather than having to win a Championship after having played every second week.

No, I haven't given up on the boys wiping the Jets on the 10th, but it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to miss out.

IMO i would rather the mariners flog the S**T out of the jets than we wouldnt have to play sydney in the preliminary with breeze as ref

I agree with you fishsdad  if the scummers or us win they play 1 game in 3 weeks i dont think that is a good preparation going into the grand final. It may give players time to get over injuries but there is no momentum. When Simons scores in the next game there will be no stopping him .GO YOU YELLOW

I have thought about it too the team playing in the GF via prelim final will be physically fitter side, however suspensions and injuries come into calcs there

I don't think Aloisi played all too bad at all - he was busting his ass out there and lady luck wasn't on his side. It happens. He caused Newcastle headaches.

There are no excuses for the missed penalty (though let's be honest, better players have missed from the spot in the history of our game - not detracting from Aloisi, he is a great player, though missed penalty kicks happen) when he had Covic beat, though the free kick that hit the post couldn't have as easily dropped in and he did score a goal that was wrongly judged off-side.

On that free-kick, i was under the impression it took a deflection of Durante that put it towards goal.

or am i wrong?

Don't believe everything you here on FOX

Law 12

A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following six offences in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:

kicks or attempts to kick an opponent

Law 14

A penalty kick is awarded against a team that commits one of the ten offences for which a direct free kick is awarded, inside its own penalty area and while the ball is in play.

am i mis-reading this, as i dont see how that answers the question.

Very sensible. Agree 100%.

It's all part of the game except when such a dubious decision has such an impact.

2-1 is a good result away and that's what the team achieved.
