Three turning points.

The missed penalty
The ruling of offside
Matty S hitting the ball to keeper with the whole goal to aim at.

IMO ref had OK game, however he lets a lot of physical stuff go, lineman bad very bad,

Scum played all over us in mid field and aside from the first 20 odd mins looked more like winning.

Crowd great, what about the business boxes seemed to be only partly used which may explain under 26, 000 crowd.

We got outplayed in defensive midfield play  which was where we lost as well as taking your chances and three missed goals, admit due to a linney.

It was not offside...

It was a good game...

Just wondering how many of yous thought that the penalty was a high foot, which is an INDIRECT free kick?

honestly, I'm a newcastle fan.

I feel for you guys, hitting the post, not being awarded the goal (I say goal because, it looked bloody onside) and aloisi missing.

No hard feelings, this really makes the second leg very important. Can't wait to see you all in full force and the atmosphere will go off.

IMO, you can't really call breeze one sided (not to set off arguments) but I think two newcastle players were brought down in the box. One awarded, one not. Breeze has definetly redeemed himself in my books, he was a bit more even, alot of the time I would say he deserves his so called "second best referee" position.

Anyways, good game and it was really good to see you guys in force down here, can't wait for the atmosphere at bluetongue (please don't ban me, I'm just giving my opinion)

also, for those who made the trip or even saw the crowd, there had to be more then they counted, 22260 or something, all reports prior were even saying 25000.. whats ya'll opinion

Definitely something dodgy about the crowd figures. On Fox they showed images of people crowding on the stairs and even Harper said there were people sitting in the aisles... I wasn't there in person so I don't know but from the looks of things on the TV the crowd was understated. Big shame because although we aren't exactly best of mates it was a chance for us regional teams to show up the big city teams. At least we gave the crowd a hell of a better show than the minor semi that's for sure.

I was there and there wasn't a spare seat anywhere. Even the scum supporters couldn't believe the crowd figures.

The Mariners (and Marinators) fans were awesome and it was only when they were 2-0 up
that they got vocal.

Some non-event scum fan without colours near us was an effing joke.

Is the figure based on tickets scanned or tickets sold?  Because at the southern end of the ground they had security guys letting in heaps of fans just by eyeballing the tickets.

I don't understand the crowd figures because I was told from stadium officials that the stadium was full before I informed them I already had tickets and was just looking to pick them up.

F**k the FFA for having the so called second best ref officiate the Major semi final and true to form f**king us with what everyone in the country now knows was a fair goal. We had our chances and stuffed them up but 2-1 would have been both fair and far more managable in the return leg.

Fox presenter and hardly our favourite guys have even suggested that in overseas comp refs that stuffed major games would not be given a game the following week. When the f**k is the FFA going to get real. Other teams may have more financial potential but refereeing like this is what the nay sayers use to f**k our game.

Is their any answer why we had this f**kwit Breeze refing our game while the 'top ref' did the minor final?

F**k I'm angry. If we lost fair and square so be it but this.......

honestly

the reason is, We don't have much else to work with? who wants to be a ref once they get yelled at constantly due to a few mistakes. I'm sure it's really tough work.

We've got a few others, Mark shield, but overall, referees in australia is just shite

what can we do? nothing pops to mind in my eyes

Develop and use technology to ensure the fairest possible contest?

One thing I've watched since I got home is the fox news with one of the commentators discussing making our ref's full time to give them no excuse on bad decisions that in many cases change games. If you watch games in the english premiership and the likes you don't see the same level of poor decisions as often as is made by our so called top refs and if they do they are not refereeing a game the following week

Mark Shield should have been refereeing our game for starters and may have proven to have been a more fair outcome.

I may be a mariners supporter but above all I'm an Australian football supporter and I really think without bias on the result that the referee's that controlled the game at bluetongue last week while the so called 'best ref's' were on Asian training did a far better job of making the right calls consistantly and it does make me wonder about the process that considers Breeze and Shields our 'best ref's'.

If they make mistakes then as fox commentry have said they should be given a rest and other ref's given a chance to prove they can make the right calls. It really makes me wonder when the FFA choose to ignore processes that have proven in overseas comps to produce the best and fairest referee's with consistancy of decisions.

F**K if fox spend time talking about it then they must really consider that something is truely wrong with the current referee's and their decisions and realise that this will effect the game leaving it open to the nay sayers to put negitive spin on football generally.

Unless 4000 fit in that construction zone between the Western stand and the Southern Hill, love to know where they would go.

Don't believe everything you here on FOX

Law 12

A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following six offences in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:

kicks or attempts to kick an opponent

Law 14

A penalty kick is awarded against a team that commits one of the ten offences for which a direct free kick is awarded, inside its own penalty area and while the ball is in play.

well the boys did their best and they were the better team out there. there was no luck on our side and a few bad ref decisions but let the boys get back together at training and get ready for what should be an all out attack on the 10th as we need to score 2 goals to draw it up!!!

What the hell was with that crowd figure??  If anything, there was _more_ than 26 000 there...... both those hills were full to the point of overflowing.

Rubbish refereeing from all concerned - if Breeze is doing the second leg there will be f*cking murders.  The FFA would be mad to appoint him to that game.

$20 on a Mariners/Sydney Prelim. Final at Bluetongue - we don't have 3 goals in us at the moment.  Sorry to be so honest but it's not not there.

mmm, I know I have no right to say this on the marinators forums, but I strongly believe it was pretty even and the second legs going to be a tough fight for both teams.

Unfair calls, maybe. But you can't blame the game on that unfortunatly. I've tried to myself whenever the jets are down. It's football and unfortunatly in australia it still needs to develop, best of luck =]

Can you see 3 goals from the Mariners though??    And us not concede one in the process, considering our current form??

According to dictionary.com, that is a 'miracle'.

I agree with Serious that we dont have 3 in us against Newcastle at the moment but stranger things have been known to happen. With the Prelim final, will we have Breeze? I get the feeling Breeze, Sydney FC and Bluetongue has a very large deja vu factor but maybe we will have a chance to get it right there and make the most of the second life we are given as top 2 finishers

Maybe we can't blame the game on that, but we can at least blame one away goal on it. Think how much difference one away goal makes to what we need in the return leg.

WE'll SCORE 3!! Sick of all the negative comments. Yeah we all know Aloisi was onside, We all know he should have had the penalty and he also hit the post. Guess what it was 2-0 and we lost. Get some bloody balls and get behind the boys cause we are gonna win 3-0 at home. Great support today but we need to be twice as good at home in 2 weeks time. f**k the negative comments I know we can do it so get behind the boys and sing loud and proud!!!
