Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Who's on my list that is not in?

I'm guessing Nash (because his future appears quite uncertain here) and Bozanic (because he's not confirmed) plus the remaining spot.

What I'd really like to hear is that we've pulled out the stops on the NYL recruitment. SFC showed last year the benefits of having a NYL team stocked with players ready to slot into the first team.

Developing a definite style of play wouldn't be bad either to be consistent across the HAL and NYL squads. Adopting the FFA standard 4-3-3 is not the worst idea, particularly when we played a 4-3-3 of sorts a few times last year and did pretty well.

SFC showed the advantage or scoring the most AIS players.

Has anyone heard the makeup of NYL yet? I heard a while back AIS would be fielding a team this year. But have not heard since.

I know GC are fielding a team, but not sure about fury? Think i remember them saying they wouldnt until 2nd season?

over now .... looking at a 22-23yr old Sheffied United player ... any ideas who that would be?

wouldn't that be nicky travis?
hey mick, isnt travis already signed, and if so, if they're looking at an 22-23 year old SU player it would be someone else

agree with dibo, Travis hasn't officially been announced so it is a case of the worst kept secret.

Interesting that Lyall also didn't rule out a marquee in spite of the current climate -  if it is for the right person.

If we do get Bozanic and Griffiths and Travis has signed - (and using the FFA approved 4-3-3 line up of course) we would look like

                  Danny/Nash/Redders

Bojic/Porter Wilko/Clark Doig/Boogs Heff/D'Apuzzo

                ??/Huke   Travis/Hutch
                  Bozanic/Griffiths

Elrich/Dyl             Simon/Mrdja          Kwas/Caceres

We haven't replaced Fergie, and with Sasho gone and Matty an unknown quantity with his injury, maybe a holding midfielder that can play attacking midfielder and striker and is also looking to get into coaching is worth a look.

Dwight has been caught on record several times recently, stating he would like to return to the A-League, preferably Sydney FC. However following Sydney FC's recent signings, it seems very unlikely that Sydney would be able to fit him under the salary cap. For a time it seemed that Dwight would end up playing for rivals Central Coast Mariners, the team bankrolled by the man who brought him to Sydney, Peter Turnbull.

On 11 March 2008, it was announced that The Mariners were in "Advanced Negotiations" with Dwight to become the marquee for two years. However on 1 July 2008 Yorke signed a new one-year contract to stay with Sunderland for the 200809 season. He demonstrated that he can still perform at the highest level with a man of the match performance against Arsenal on 4 October 2008, a game which Sunderland drew 11 at home.

He was released on 28 May 2009.

If he didn't come last year just cause he wanted to play in the EPL for one more year, I cant see what is stopping him now.

Sorry, had thought Travis was a striker...

4-5-1 anyone?

or 4-2-3-1 perhaps.

I know the deal with Mrdja, it's just disappointing. I'm not the biggest Gumprecht fan, but at least in spite of his years and his waning endurance he gave it what he could and showed genuine desire unlike Nik who's never convinced me that he wanted to fight to be there. I wish we could have sent Nik up north and kept Sasho, but we've got what we've got.

How the hell is Disco Nik on any significant $?  I thought is original contract was 3 years and surely no one in their right mind would have offered him big $ after that.  I would have assumed he would have been on some sort of pay for play contract with his history.

well it is a well known fact on the forums he had an option for another year...
80% sure it was based on number of appearances (which he satisfied)

I am not the most knowledgeable on player contract conditions & etc.
but I assume if they are entitled to a contract extension it would be for the same $$$ even though he doesnt warrant the high $$$
crappy situation tbh, but wat can you do
would have looked like a smart deal for us 3 years ago- when he was an inform goal scorer

huge risk playing pedj at cb imho.

I'd be more inclined to play Caceras on the flank.

I'd also stick to 442 unless we get  decent centre mid.

whwere did he win his MOM in opening rounds?
at CB?
I think it would be worth a try in preseason...i prefer him RB (I like him attacking wise)- but he could be good foil for Doig?
Dw, it wont happen...Lawrie cant oust Boogs AND Wilko out of the centre of defence  ::)

Amazing plays 9 games in 3 season and can take up an option of an extension on the big bucks, what a great contract negotiator the mariners must have had :-(

Gotta take the good with the bad mate when you're trying to tell the future. What about Jedinak's and Simon's contracts? Who do you reckon might have benefited most from those? Not good enough? Perhaps your crystal ball is more reliable than Mariners FC's.

I have no issue with the original contract looked like we had a great deal.  I would have thought it would have been a fairly standard thing to put in some sort of performance requirements such as playing games as playing 50% of all games as part of an option of extending a contract, if not then why would you not just give him a 5 year one as effectivley that it what it appears to be.

Jedinak and Simon are great examples of how a contract in sport should work.  You work hard to get one (Jedinak played for free for a few months), you recieve a contract, you continue to work hard and put in, recieve a upgraded contract as a reward for you performance, if you continue to work and perform you move on to greater things such as Europe or an international call up and get rewarded with a uograded contact.
