fair enough. that would round out the signings anyway, leaving us with the following 22 players:

Bojic
Boogard
Bozanic
Caceres
Clark
D'Apuzzo
Doig
Elrich
Griffiths
Heffernan
Huke
Hutchinson
Kwasnik
Macallister
Mrdja
Nash
Porter
Redmayne
Simon
Travis
Vukovic
Wilkinson

Having everyone signed in June and ready to go never hurts, no matter what the likes of fruitbat think.

oh he mentioned the under 23 marquee could be split between 3 players, and they might look at doing that - so the $150k could be allocated at $50k each for 3 players ... think I got that right...

interesting. the only reason you'd try to hop through those hoops is to free up cap space. presumably that means you're going to try to spend it all, otherwise you'd leave it in the cap.

...unless you're just hoping someone wins lotto during the season and spunks the dough on a $150k player we otherwise couldn't have touched.

Ha... I clicked the 'play' button and got last week's show...

you had to listen live not podcast

i know that now! :piralaugh:

Any 'news' aside from us looking at Nicky Travis?

negotiating with bozanic, possibly signing griffiths and other triallists probably won't be signed

Bozanic looked good when here, I'm sure he's learnt a lot from his time with Reading and could be a great pick up.  We were interested in him last season but his demands were slightly unrealistic, if we have the money available would/could slot into that U23 marquee position?

Griffiths I've not seen enough of to pass judgement but he plays attacker or attacking midfield doesn't he?  Glad we're looking at some young blood though

Who's on my list that is not in?

I'm guessing Nash (because his future appears quite uncertain here) and Bozanic (because he's not confirmed) plus the remaining spot.

What I'd really like to hear is that we've pulled out the stops on the NYL recruitment. SFC showed last year the benefits of having a NYL team stocked with players ready to slot into the first team.

Developing a definite style of play wouldn't be bad either to be consistent across the HAL and NYL squads. Adopting the FFA standard 4-3-3 is not the worst idea, particularly when we played a 4-3-3 of sorts a few times last year and did pretty well.

So the Sebs are still a possibility .. plus the side that Dibo listed (shown below) ... could be an interesting season... maybe not as dire as we may have through..

Bojic
Boogard
Bozanic
Caceres
Clark
D'Apuzzo
Doig
Elrich
Griffiths
Heffernan
Huke
Hutchinson
Kwasnik
Macallister
Mrdja
Nash
Porter
Redmayne
Simon
Travis
Vukovic
Wilkinson

Reasonable list (if we get Bozanic) but we still need another striker.

Also note that that list has precisely nil ex NYL players from last season - a shame and a wasted year

We've got 4 strikers, just like last year - Travis replaces Petrovski, who knows how well that will go, but we'll see.

Unfortunately nobody's replaced that pea-heart wearing number 9. There's a bloke for whom I am utterly sick of saying "surely it's his year", followed a few weeks later by "well surely that's his last chance and he's blown it".

Travis is a midfielder or right winger. Not a striker.

Mrdja will doubtless pull his heart muscle soon so we will need at least 1 more.

Whilst Kwas can play up front, we all know that isnt his ideal position and I'm not up for another season of people abusing him for it.

Travis isn't a striker

Mrdja had to be offered a contract Dibo, but won't go anywhere willingly coz he won't get the coin he's on anywhere else

+1
i am feeling more confident with the fact we have more triallists than spots...the competition for a place in the team has never been higher IMHO
I'm really hoping we snap up bozanic

Sorry, had thought Travis was a striker...

4-5-1 anyone?

or 4-2-3-1 perhaps.

I know the deal with Mrdja, it's just disappointing. I'm not the biggest Gumprecht fan, but at least in spite of his years and his waning endurance he gave it what he could and showed genuine desire unlike Nik who's never convinced me that he wanted to fight to be there. I wish we could have sent Nik up north and kept Sasho, but we've got what we've got.

Couldn't agree more Dibo, a decent amount of cap will be made available when he goes next year!  The guy has shown hardly any comittment over 4 seasons, the type of player (who when he does play) plays for himself and not the team.

It is a shame because he's shown great touches and skill at times, plus chipped in with some great goals, but yeah, he's got no ticker!

4-2-3-1 for sure

atm i would rather play caceres in the middle (until someone better props up)- rostyn is not that guy (well i havent seen him play- so i will reserve my decision)

my formation

              Vukovic
Wilko    Bojic    Doig        Heff
          Travis    Huke
Elrich        Caceres      Bozanic
              Simon

More likely Wilko in centreback + bojic right/left back, hutch instead of huke (for no logical reason), Caceres wide + Griffiths centrally
reason i put bojic in centre back was for pace...

any1 want to suggest a 3-5-2 formation...or 3-4-3 or something of the like...we now have CB's (Boogs, Wilko, Doig + Bojic), Wingbacks (Heff, Porter + if need be Bojic, and maybe Bozanic?)
i personally would stick with 4-2-3-1 for now but I do recall every1 making a big fuss last season bout 3 back formation?

Not a bad line up I would change it slightly to 4 4 1 1 with either Huke or Travis holding back a little a bit like an old fashion stopper's position. Matty & Nil can hold a ball and lay it back ... so play in  Caceres

              Vukovic

Wilko    Bojic    Doig        Heff

Elrich  Travis    Huke    Bozanic (assuming we sign him)

                Caceres

                Simon

personally I hope Caceres in kept on the bench, far better impact player IMHO and didn't impress me at all last season apart from his game against Perth really.
