There was about 20 cumulative minutes tonight where we played on the ground, channel running and off the ball movement, sexy football.  Why didn't we persist with it??  Why did we resort to passing it around the back four, then either Wilko or Danny would hoof it??  Play it out from the back ffs, you might be surprised what happens......

I agree that Stringers was a very surprising MoM as the last time we saw him he looked like he had his boots on the wrong feet.

We did play some good stuff in the 1st half and looked like we had them on the rack, I think LM went for the kill and brought on the extra striker which cost us the game as we lost control of the midfield after that.

I'm not feeling very confident against the Roar, but in finals football you never know. For us to progress imo we need to hope that Matty gets his boots back from earlier in the season, as the last couple of games he has showed all the pose and confidence as V3...

Disagree with comments about Nik. The distribution and passing from midfield was worse than shit not much you can do there unless you except him to chase everything  and run out of juice.

Wilko is an embarrassment! Younis made him look stupid regardless of if he was offside or not! NO HEART worst skipper in the league!

You obviously see about the same amount as Wombat.

As opposed to you who obviously didn't watch the game at all.

Oh Razorback, I am cut by your quick wit.

Watch the replay and compare Nick's efforts with those of Simon or McCallister.

Check out the lovely through ball from Caceras and see what Nick does with it.

I guess the only time you notice defenders is when they make an error and do not see all the grafting work.

Wow, Ursus riding a high horse...... I'm shocked.  Wilko was rubbish mate, deal with it.   Stringers was screaming at him to get in the right positions all night - hardly inspiring stuff from a captain, yet again.

Speaking of Stringers, he was :O ;D 8) - if that's what playing for a contract does to a player, then get everyone on week to week deals!!!!   :p

As funny and awesome as Danny's falcon was - it beckons the question, why was he standing there watching the ball nearly go in??   I would say it's another example of his flat footed approach to keeping perhaps??

The bay tonight was.......... okay.  Considering it was a dead rubber, I was expecting far worse.  Nice overall crowd as well.  Surely we'll sell out the semi??

Serious - what level do you keep at. Have you ever done it at a decent senior level. Fact is a well taken FK from just outside the box that goes over the wall (and at the pace it was hit) is almost impossible to stop, Danny had no play on it and was wishing the ball out.... I watched him and he wasn't flat footed - was definitely on his toes... Now back to your review please....

Yes serious.  You should remember that the forum has agreed that you cannot criticise a player unless you've played in that position at a higher level than they.

Now, to just convince you all that the same applies for referees.... ;-)

Unfortunately I didn't get to watch it - what'd Simon get booked for?

I think we were all at a loss to explain Simon's yellow card. Looked at the replay a dozen times and am still not sure.

I think the standard of refereeing (not the ARs though) has improved this season but Breeze had a dead-set shocker last night.

He just loves going against the home team!

I watched the game with some Reds supporters and they were extremely frustrated with Stringers for about 75mins last night (until the goal)...I guess that definitely means he had a good game :)

Happy for anyone to have a different opinion but all I am saying id to say he was flat footed is incorrect. Hey there will be those that disagree with me who have kept at a decent level as well.... The forum is here for all to have different opinions just asking the obvious question - if one is to say Danny was flat footed and should have done something then i am asking what was he meant to do? Fact is Danny had a good game and was certainly on his toes and not flat footed (he has been somewhat flat footed recently but was not last night - probably trying to out do Eugene for the Aussie team?)

When you have a ref who is inept, it usually evens out for both sides over 90 mins.

Breeze is the very worst type, he is crap one way and will take against a side for 90 mins.

Ruins most games he refs TBH

Strikers miss sitters all the time. Have a look at Agostino, Adelaide could have been up by 5 if he could hit the target. It doesn't mean they aren't putting in any effort. And to defend Wilko's effort and defending a state league player and criticise Nik's effort having to work with shithouse passing and long balls (apart from the Caseras through ball) borders on comical!

Well, Adelaide United did everything but score that second goal. But the Mariners had numerous chances in the second half.

You do wonder if Petrovski would have made a big difference in this and the Roar game.

Managed to make it back from Canberra in time (now waiting to see if the coppers with the radar took any notice of me) to see Danny's falcon (save of the year - the boy is brilliant).

O'Grady was fantastic.  Right up there for MOM.  After watching it in whole today I've got to say that Boogs did a mighty job.  It's early days and he still probably has a lot to do but if the coaches do their job Jedi's departure might not translate into the apocalypse so many have been suggesting.

After asking on a number of occasions for the players to be taught to shoot with both feet, can I now suggest that they be taught to shoot.  Too much piss farting around and being in the wrong position (learn to anticipate for farks sake).  There's nothing wrong with mixing it up.  Twiddle around with it and tie the defence in knots, but don't dismiss the value in blazing the odd one from outside or on the 18 yard box and thereby keeping the opposition guessing as to what you are going to do. At the moment it looks like we're trying to look too good for our own good.

All Nik has to do is remember Matty.  The boy couldn't hit the side of a barn last season, and we all know what's happened this season.  With that being the case it stands to reason that Nik will win the Golden Boot next year.

On a positive note ... New CCM cult hero = Mathew Lewis.  Got a good cheer and a good chant going.  Is this the beginning of the youth stepping up?

Another positive note (and a bit off topic) Scum lose 4 nil to Sydney.  Can't wait to get to work tomorrow. :piralaugh:

vukos was sensational, for adelaides goal he took a punt and lost, it happens, his flat footedness, is his major weakness. bojic had a good game on the left and porter on the right.
Never seen ogrady play but he did a top effort (mom), mad a few good coffin saves, i hope matty can soon back himself to run the defenders and have a crack, self confidence seems low.
looking forward to the finals series

and lewis, how old is that kid, he could have massive potential,
is only going to gain confidence in ability with that awesome reception

Well he broke the record for the youngest player to pull on a mariners shirt in the a-league.

He has a big potential in the future and some good touches last night in the very little time he got.

Having subsequently watched the nearly goal again and again, and noticing that at no point does Danny attempt to move off the spot which he is flatly standing on......... _pretty_ sure that's the definition of 'flat footed'.

But hey, I've never saved a goal in my life and I stand behind the goals, what do I know??

Capn - sorry chief, I forgot about that rule.  Still means I can criticise Hutch though - oh SNAP!!!!  :p

Most were average today but the 1s to note IMO were

Danny - good game
Porter - Did his job well even when he had to go on the left
O'Grady - showed he can still offer something at this level
Simon - was hungry for a goal and looked lively
Caceres - was rubbish and has been for a few weeks
Mrdja - learn how to pass

The final third was poor again, we had the chances but stuffed it a few times.

We need to raise our game big time otherwise there's only 2 games to go.

We had plenty of opportunities in both halves but the strikers were all as nervous as a virgin on her wedding night.
Too often they hesitated and chose to pass in the hope that another forward would be in a better position. Adelaide's defence deserves credit for pressuring them so effectively.

Only in the last 5-10 minutes they decided to have a dig.

Reasonable effort compared to the dross in the last couple of weeks:

1. Danny 7.5..good game apart from the falcon which showed him at his flat-fooetd worst.
2. Porter..6...not bad and tried hard but is a limited type of player.
3. Bojic...6...didn't see him after about 20 mins...who replaced him??
6. Wiko...6...not his worst apart from being to made to look a bit of a monkey on the goal.
5. O'Grady 8...MOM...Excellent...what i'd expect from a centre back every game but we rarely see at BT. Top effort.

7. Gumps..6.5....solid game...probably wishes he had better quality around him...i know i do!
8.Hutcho..5.5...average at best
11. Caceras  5.5....another relatively poor effort from a player that should/could dominate
4. Boogs..6....showed some quality but is never going to be Jedi and as i said b4 CB's NEVER make good centre midfield players.

9. Simon...6.5....fair game
10. D-Mac...4.5....rubbish tonight

Subs...Nik 5...annoying. Owens..6... still looked better than Osman.

What do you rate the Ref and the pitch? I thought there were some poor decisions and I noticed few players sliding on the pitch.
