For his yellow card, Perez probably said "asi referato" which the ref mistakenly translated as "the referee's an arse" but it actually means "well refereed" :ashamed:

Haven't seen McBreen working so hard before tonight. Pity his headers aren't working.
GA must have worded him up on what's required of him. Good one Macca, keep it going and I won't call you McUseless any more.

Brilliant game of football from the mariners tonight in that heat which i can only imagine what its like i have never sunbathed in 37 degrees never mind play football in it ,the passing in the first half was as good as i have watched all season from any league in the world ,i watched Barcelona out play Real Madrid and beat them 5-0 and it was breath taking this game was the same ,the game tonight should have been over by half time but well done to the lads for seeing it out ,and a big well done to the coaching staff for getting the guys as fit as they are to play in conditions like that ,even at the end they were still running ,i have seen enough football on this computer i am heading over next sat from Scotland to see the last 2 games and hopefully the grand final ..

Wow - just wow!

Playing like that away in 37 degree heat in front of an almost silent 12,000 odd crowd was incredible. What a team (and squad) we have.

Arnold IN massively (with nods to Lawrie too).

big ups to the thirty or so at the game, particularly the tour of duty boys and girls. Never felt like we'd lose it tonight, they looked that composed. f**k yeah!

Extraordinary result, extraordinary performance; “We are not North Queensland” said Graham Arnold, and how right he was. I doubt we have ever played so well in the first forty five minutes as we did yesterday. Of course Adelaide came back at us but then, they were the home team, weren’t they? You would not have known it as the Mariners walked into the House of Hindmarsh, ripped the beers out of the fridge, put their feet up on the table and grabbed control of the remote and dictated what the Adelaide fans would have to watch. What they watched was a superb performance orchestrated by the little ring master Patricio Perez with so many willing and capable performers – Bozanic and Rose, Bojic, McGlinchey and Simon deserve special mention. The back four was calm and untroubled, Simon lead the line superbly, supported by McBreen, and the midfield brought out all the clichés of well-oiled machine and smooth and efficient as a Swiss watch. Perez’s first goal was the piece of genius to get the team off to a great start, he then fed McBreen who butchered a golden chance and it was his final pass, the eleventh of a move that swung the play from right to left to right and left again which fed Josh Rose for the sweetest finish you could ever see.
It wasn’t until the hour mark that Adelaide came into the game and when Leckie and Reid came on they took the game to the Mariners but even then the Mariners created the clearer chances and Matt Simon in particular still has work to do on his finishing. It was all too late for the Reds – their scrambled goal wasn’t enough and the Mariners won an epic victory.
Perez was my man of the match; I thought Bozanic was outstanding and the Reds could not handle him and Josh Rose; Pedj had an epic battle with Cassio, neither giving an inch and Simon lead the line superbly marred only by hitting the late well-crafted opportunity straight at Galekovic.
All up though, there is no doubting now who is the number two team in the comp and who is the best Argentinean.
Bring on the Finals!

Without doubt the classiest performance I've seen by the Mariners. Adelaide simply had no answer to our passing game. Absolutely beautiful to watch. And two superb goals too.

Don't wake me up if I'm dreaming!

I understand and fully accept our place in the league... we are the club that should not but do... our battle cry from year one ... Nobody rates us ... we don't care... that club that Les Murry argued with JON & FL should not be allowed in especially in place of an unofficial bid of a couple of some WS NSL clubs willing to merge to have a WS team...

However the number of things I have read saying AU were off their game... had a bad night ... will be better in the big ones ...

Can you imagine the media if the game had been reversed ...AU show their true skill... Home-truths for the Mariners...

Would love to win the toilet seat almost as much to shove it up the @#$%!@ of many folk...

The first club with and looks like the best ..""Centre of Football Excellence"" in the country of any code... and given last night goal and miss by Japan (the header that missed) the club with Australia's next left back .... and two or three of our future midfield players...

CENTRAL Coast Mariners have taken a big step towards clinching a coveted top-two finish, while denying Brisbane Roar's official premiership celebrations, after a 2-1 win at Adelaide United on Saturday night.

The Mariners outclassed the Reds from start to finish and the score wasn't a true reflection with United grabbing a late consolation after Central Coast netted twice in the first half.

The Mariners completely outplayed United in the first half and were always first to the ball and a metre ahead while the Reds resembled nothing of the side that thrashed North Queensland Fury 8-1 last week.

Matt Simon was first to try his luck, firing an early warning from distance before Argentine Patricio Perez upstaged his countryman Marcos Flores by breaking the deadlock in the 10th minute.

Perez collected the ball in the middle of his attacking half and skipped past his marker, Francisco Usucar before coolly sliding his shot past Eugene Galekovic from the top of the box.

Central Coast continued to assert their authority and bossed the Reds all over the park before doubling their lead on the half hour.

Perez was involved again when he worked his way into space to collect the ball from Josh Rose just outside the area, before laying it back to his team-mate.

Rose dashed in from the left and curled the return pass into the bottom corner leaving Galekovic no chance.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first with the visitors on top and affording the Reds little time and space.

On the hour Simon was unmarked at the back post, on the end of a dangerously curling free kick but his shot was straight into the body of Galekovic.

In the 71st minute Michael McGlinchey squandered a guilt-edged to make it three when he failed to capitalise from 6m.

After a goal mouth scramble, the ball sat up perfectly for McGlinchey but he scuffed his shot and Galekovic was able to get a hand to it and bat it away.

United pressed late in the game and managed to pull one back through Travis Dodd who turned in a corner from close range.

The corner drifted to the back post and was forced back into the danger zone where Dodd smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

As the Reds went in search of an equaliser, Simon nearly capped off the win with a goal but he was again denied by Galekovic.

Adelaide United 1 (Dodd 90+')
Central Coast 2 (Perez 11', Rose 30')

Just watched the game again... Wow, first half could have been a team from any top league in Europe! Swift and fluent... The lack of freedom we allowed Adelaide was the key and also not allowing them to get in behind and use van dike strength in the air!

Hats off boys

Wasn't that first half just fantastic!
So exciting to see the difference between a team of good players, and a team of good players well drilled in a great system of play.
Especially when it's YOUR team! :vhappy:

GA is only now approaching the amount of time that Ange had already had with Roar at the start of this season... and personally I think we now have the edge. It's so exciting to watch. We are seeing a beautiful system of football and a real quality coaching display. No fading this year, we are moving from strength to strength as the understanding and subsequent intuitive play continues to blossom. Well done GA, very very impressive.

Re players - just refer to Roy Laws quality post for mine also.

Massive game. Massive win. So well deserved.

Oh and a big thanks also for the money I won and taking some of the sting out of the Asian Cup loss Mariners.
Man seriously shitty day if your a football supporter from AUFC yesterday. (shitty week for them in fact)

4 points clear!

Unbelievable how far Adelaide seem to have fallen lately.

C'MON MARINERS!

Fold maybe only two points depending on how they go in their games in hand ... however at the 70 min mark Tards in front 2 to nil in today's game...

Great victory against a side that we simply didn't let play Football.

They were shonky in defence and made a mistake not playing Reid but we were fantastic and controlled the game.

Ryan 7. Good game and unlucky not to get a clean sheet.
Bojic 7. Good game. Brave and tough.
Wilko 8. Really impressed me with a great captains knock. Got burned once but apart from that was immense.
Ducthy 7. Assured and calm.
Rose 8. Great game and lovely finish.
WeeMac 7. Decent contolled performance especially as not suited by extreme heat.
Perez 8. What a goal!!!!!!!!! This bloke is quality. Has nice vision and timing to go with the sublime ball work.
Griffiths 7.5. Top game. Shielded the back four well and drove forward nicely. Very impressive.
Bozanic 7.5. Showed so lovely skill and worked very hard. Along with Perez was simply too lively for Adelaide middies.
Simon 8. Massive effort and massive engine. Eye catching game.
McBreen 7. Brave game. Lacking a bit of confidence but did alot of good stuff and defended from the front beautifully.

MOM Perez 3pts
Simon 2pts
Wilko and Rose 1pt each.

+ Bit surprised Doig wasn't on bench but thankfully back four didn't have any injuries.
+ We can beat Brisbane on that performance.
+ Arnie and Moss are doing a stirling job.

Don't think GCU can challenge us for 2nd after going down to MV tonight. In fact, they could very easily lose all of their last 4 games - AUFC on Wednesday, then over to Perth Sunday, then us on Wednesday and finish with Roar.

it would be great if Fold Coast could beat or at least draw with adelaide on wednesday, they wont catch us but definitely could help us claim second.
