this is a really big loss!
I almost cried when i read it on the World game!

anyone here feel the slightest bit annoyed that
1) we paid 11 months of wages for him to recover
2) for 3-4 months of playing post-injury he was RUBBISH!
I agree with the sentiments here that the last month he is realising the pre-Nurnberg form...

Have to say good move for Heart, except for the money factor...

Me thinks this season could be the best chance for silverware for at least a couple of years...

1) Insurance
2) You can't expect someone to recover from a broken leg and then regain the form they had previous in 3-4 months.

When Heff returned from Nuremburg he could have gone to another HAL club but chose us for obvious reasons, he's given us 4 years, done well, I hope he stays but if he doesn't I'd wish him luck.

. funny how loyalty always comes up in these discussions and 'they owe us' type statements. truth is that in all practicality loyalty and salary cap are mutually exclusive

. for a decent money increase or the old 'family reasons' i hold no animosity towards these guys, but i would hate to see him go

. can we please not talk about wee-matt as a left back. one thing i really liked about his starting debut was he played as a midfielder ... not imitating a striker or a back

. also don't say heff owes us because talay broke his leg

I am assuming you mean "awesome if he does not"

does this mean no?

A-LEAGUE new boys Melbourne Heart today confirmed they had signed Adelaide United's Kristian Sarkies and Newcastle Jets skipper Matt Thompson, as exclusively revealed by au.fourfourtwo.com.
However the club ignored reports that Dean Heffernan would be joining them next season - and Sydney FC's Simon Colosimo today denied he had signed for Heart already...but admitted he was keeping his options open.

Colosimo, 30, is understood to have reached a verbal agreement with Heart that allows him to look overseas for a big final payday in Asia before retiring...but with the option of a generous deal at Heart if that falls through.

Today though Colosimo was guarded over his plans and stalled on any commitment to anyone.

"I have not signed a contract with Melbourne Heart," he said. "I have put all contract talk on hold until the end of the season.

"My focus is firmly on the field and I am really enjoying my football at Sydney FC and am aiming to win a championship with the club.

"At this time of year there's often discussion around contracts, but my focus will be squarely on football and I won't be commenting on any further contract speculation."

However Kristian Sarkies confirmed he was Melbourne-bound next season after sealing a deal with the 11th club to join the A-League and return to his hometown.

"That was a bit of icing on the cake going back there (to Melbourne) because my family is there, but it was mostly a football decision for me personally," Sarkies said today.

"Adelaide has been superb for me, since the day I got here they have really looked after me on and off the park, and it has been a pleasure to be here.

"I've experienced a lot of good things while I've been here, we made the Asian Champions League Final, we made a Hyundai A-League Grand Final and I've really enjoyed my time here.

"But all good things must come to an end, and I've decided to go back to Melbourne next season."

He aded: "I've learnt a lot as a footballer and a person.

"You have your ups and downs but it's what you do during your downs that make you stronger when you're up, so it has been a rollercoaster time here but I've thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt a lot."

Melbourne Heart today also officially confirmed Jets captain Thompson would be on board next season.

Head coach John van't Schip said: "I am excited that Kristian and Matt have joined me at the club.

"Both players are technically excellent, great professionals and moving toward the peak of their careers. We need players who are very comfortable on the ball but also players who are prepared to work hard in transition and when not in possession.

"I have watched both players closely and they have these qualities."

Heff is a pretty intelligent guy. I suppose after a few years on the Coast he is looking for new challenges and new adventures.

Also I guess the place was not the same for him after his good mate Stringers left.

I comfort myself with the fact that no player who has left us has gone on to bigger and better things anywhere else.

Another season or two and Sarkies will start to become a quality HAL player.
Been shite in HAL by and large, (though better lately) but he did also impress me in some of the Aus under 23's games and does have the makings imo.
