. i think one game in a month = rusty
. i also think 4 games in two weeks = fatigue
. sure they do this in europe (well some of the top teams do anyway) ... but do they go from one to another? ... and do they do it with such a small squad?
. the travel involved would also be the equivalent of playing each game in a different country (maybe continent)
. simply: the balance is wrong
. besides i always thought the argument for 'more' football was a longer season (and therefore shorter off season) not simply cramming more games into the same space of time ... where is the benefit in that?
I don't think the argument about European playing conditions is relevant. Let's face it the Euros don't play in Sunday's heat very often, it is after all winter over there.
On top of that the travelling distance is a lot less - the whole of the UK fits in NSW with a fair bit over. They may do the journey from Barcelona to Moscow (or the equivalent) when they play the Euro championships but not to play both games in half a week.
If our guys played under those conditions, they probably wouldn't get so fatigued either.
