GAME DAY FINALLY GRGvCCM

Faty, Poscoliero left off the starting side.... Monty played out of position in the backs and Mickey Neil a player in need of a senior player alongside to guide on the field.

Arguably our two best backs not starting and Neil needing guidance from Faty [who was not there] and Tavares who TW is said to believe is the best mid in the league not starting... More than likely the sides confidence in the gutter and reports of the keeper throwing a rant at the last match.

I have met TW a few times a nicer bloke would be hard to find.... but he needed to make a statement today a loud statement and the side he put out could never make that statement.

I don't know the answer but I can't see people flocking to our games especially the Sydney folk ...

I don't think I have ever been more angry after a football match. We were outplayed completely in the second half and we were barely on top in the first. We should have been good enough for the referring not to matter.

Hard to sell memberships after a display like that.

Should have done enough to take the officiating out of the mix. Then the winner would've been a spectacular consolation and nothing more.

Our English technical director should make sure his passport is current and his wife's as well.... Redders could be on the Coast for a while...

One positive was Ivan Necevski thought he was brilliant tonight and deserved a clean sheet. Bogus referring and a wonder goal was all that denied him.

Obviously our luck hasn't changed.

Ivan made some great saves could have been ugly.

Can't even handle NPL pressure. A League sides be licking their lips

What an embarrassment

Was bad enough listening to fox mention last year every 5 mins

Going to need to mute the commentary this year

As for the white kit. WTF

First half Green Gully pressed us really well, we tried playing down either flank - close to the sidelines with triangles that were narrow in shape.

Trying to play in tight areas to keep the possesion when it was just far too compressed with no space.

GG players kicking heels & legs from behind, leaving our boys frustrated and constantly complaining to the ref, when they should of simply just played a square-ball inside to the centre and switched the play into open space on the opposite flank.

Green Gully were far fitter than us & rightly so, considering they're nearing finals football in the VNPL & f**king Walmsley should have factored that into the game plan by trying to take some legs out of GG - by passing and switching from flank to flank constantly, for very little effort from our boys pre-season legs.

"Let the farken ball do all the work"

This opens up the middle for Junior to go forward, threading through balls &/or 'creating' attacks into the front third.

but NO !
Walmsley wanted tiki-taka,
on the sidelines,
in tight triangles,
in compressed areas - which was a component to his 'Entertainment' style last season at times ..... which more often ended with the same results as tonight & drives me insane.

The Mariners as a club, regardless of the Coaches and multitude of players that we've had, have ALWAYS played their best football when we've exploited 'open space', wherever it is !

With the pace that we now have, why the fcuk wouldn't you ???

We were beaten by a f****n mickey f****n mouse team.
Regardless of the dodgy ref calls that went both ways (mostly their's), IMO we were out coached.

I really question TW's skills in deciding on 'tactics' and more importantly his reactive abillities when those tactics aren't working.

Slightly more calm now.
We were out enthused by a fitter squad of triers.
Positives:
Necevski's reaction saves, but overall not convinced by him, but a lousy surface to work on, will wait and see.
Blake Powell looked good and played some lovely balls around the box, plus a goal until he got hacked to pieces.
Negatives:
Inability to control the ball, we still have too many players who cannot pass or keep the ball. The technical skills displayed, like last season, were abysmal.
Shuffled defence that never looked convincing, Monty did well out of position, but the rest were totally disjointed. Ok Faty not fit, Posco injured.
Tried to play wide without fullbacks effectively going forward. Easily shut down. Neil did twice, Ashcroft once and each time looked dangerous.
Middle of the park a shambles, Berry is not the answer.
Bingham may be a striker but is not a winger.
Tavares' two fouls were just idiotic.

Overall the team played like what it was, a makeshift side with players out of position, and half the starting team out.

Hopefully it will be different with Paine, Tavares, Faty, Posco, Fletcher (maybe) and eventually Roux starting.

What we saw tonight is what I fear we will see if we suffer injuries.

I will not watch the replay, too disappointing, but look forward to Wombat's summation, if he can bring himself to do one.

I thought Connor Pain looked to be carrying a few extra kgs than what he was when with Victory.

Brice better whip him into shape if were to see his pace as an advantage this season.

If Posco was unavailable due to injury & TW didn't think Faty was up for 60 mins or so then why not Josh Rose at CB ???

He used him there quite a bit when in a pinch last season.

Wasn't there a rumour that Josh Rose was being pressed to retire? That might be why. Could have signed someone like Gian Gallifuoco as an injury replacement player for Roux but I would say Tony would have wanted to keep the faith with the boys we had already signed.

I can't comment on the game because I didn't see it , but my TW OUT NOW still stands .I saw our Academy team at pluim on Sunday they fought back from 2 nil down they would've given GG a run for third money. Good thing we didn't play Juventus or Athletco in friendlies . As long term fan TW doesn't give you confidence.
