They could sell that but then it comes back to finding a buyer? Lowy can't even find someone to fund the supposed cash cow that is Western Sydney, I doubt people are lining up to buy the Mariners... especially with the prospect of being shafted by Russian investors at the COE ;)

Going by other rumours, part of this deal is to pay off Mariners debts? Not sure I would want to do something like that and then dump stocks straight away?

Turnbull nearly sold the same interest to Sabina in Oct 2011.
The second link details ownership of the development.
The Mariners FC Developments unit Trust (owner and developer)
30% held by LNL-Gorman
35% held by Ryer- Charlesworth
35% held by Mariners FC Unit Trust-Turnbull and McCabe

The Mariners FC Developments unit Trust also holds a 64% interest in the Central Coast Mariners Football cub.

. all these numbers are a bit too much for my simple mind ... business structures, it would seem, are far too complicated for me

. i thought the sabina deal was basically a share swap with the trust giving up its share in the coe for shares in sabina (didn't sound like a sale to me) ... so the trust would have effectively kept their control but through a different vehicle. then there was a change in valuation somewhere and cash came into it as well ... but turnbull would have still had a substantial interest (just not directly)

. as for the other 36% in the mariners ... does turnbull have other holdings separate to the trust (either in his own name or through another vehicle)?

. again it is all speculation until we actually know what is being offered/bought/sold

This is perhaps why negotiations have taken so long

When you have an able and willing seller ... and an able and willing buyer ... it always comes down to price.. when you have a forced sale the buyer holds the whip hand... when the seller even if it trouble can hold on it comes down to negotiation of what the seller is willing to accept and what terms the seller will settle for...

The departure of the Gold Coast and Clive Palmer circus have given us an ability to hold on ... FFA cannot in the current scheme of things let us go under or become to weak... meaning we can hold out longer for the deal I suspect ... but at the end of the day we look like a forced sale on delay...

Cockerill talking about Arnie to the Smurfs and also the Russian date is 25/3. Interesting that he can't even add up the points in the table either.

Sky Blues will try to tempt top target Arnold away from Gosford

Graham Arnold can expect an offer within a week to become the next coach of Sydney FC.

The former Socceroos boss still has a season left on his deal with Central Coast Mariners, but might be able to leave Gosford on a breach of contract. Whether he wants to leave is another issue, with a new Russian consortium finally set to take control of the Mariners on March 25, and the club's impressive new Centre of Excellence at Tuggerah taking shape.

It is understood Arnold's outstanding bonus from qualifying for the Asian Champions League has been paid, while the recent sales of Matt Simon and Rostyn Griffiths to Asian clubs for combined fees of around $1.2 million have solved player payment issues. Arnold loves the lifestyle on the central coast, and has little interference from above, where chairman Peter Turnbull has always been a staunch supporter.

Nonetheless Sydney FC, who have made little secret of their admiration for Arnold, are finally ready to table a formal offer following a board meeting earlier this week. It's understood the Sky Blues are prepared to pay about $350,000 a season to entice Arnold back to his home town to replace Vitezslav Lavicka, whose final game could be eight days away depending on results.

The appointment of a new coach has become urgent for the Sky Blues, who have up to eight players almost out of contract and are eager to enter the transfer market. It is believed new football director Gary Cole attended this week's board meeting to outline a retention and recruitment policy, but no decisions will be made until the new coach is in place. The Sky Blues have had approaches from a number of foreign coaches, among them Brazilian Oswaldo de Oliveira, head coach of Botafogo, and German legend Lothar Matthaus, who hasn't coached since being sacked by the Bulgarian national team in September.

It is believed Sky Blues co-owner David Traktovenko - the man responsible for hiring Lavicka - had been determined to appoint another foreign coach, but is prepared to make an exception for Arnold, who is potentially one game away from guiding the Mariners to the minor premiership title.

Two other A-League coaches were unofficially shortlisted by the board - it is believed one was interviewed by former chief executive Dirk Melton - but former Melbourne Victory coach Ernie Merrick was never a serious option despite recent media reports to the contrary.

Whatever happens, the club is determined to finalise the coaching position within a month. Just this week, Sydney FC missed out on signing Gold Coast United left fullback Adama Traore - who has instead joined Melbourne Victory - because of the uncertainty over who would be in charge of the team season.

Meanwhile, the Premier's Plate will be taken to Gosford tonight in case the Mariners clinch the minor premiership with a win against Adelaide United. Central Coast need Brisbane Roar to lose to Newcastle Jets, in a game being played simultaneously at Hunter Stadium, to claim the trophy.

Win on Saturday and qualify again for ACL - that's a big bonus for Arnie; Sydney are no where near qualifying. I would happily pay $1m for Arnie not chicken feed $350k...

Another Cockerill article - it tal;s of CSKA Moscow - not Spartak as speculated before.

Fancy blue collar may keep Arnold on Mariner leash March 19, 2012

Sydney FC might want Graham Arnold, but Central Coast Mariners are confident they can keep him.

'''Arnie' and the Central Coast, it's a natural fit,'' Mariners chairman Peter Turnbull says. He's right. But, with Melbourne Victory also believed to be circling, the issue is whether Arnold is prepared to swap his blue-collar ethics for the white-collar culture of one of the A-League's two biggest clubs. It's line-ball, and the next fortnight could be decisive. But don't bet against Arnold surprising everyone and staying exactly where he is.

Arnold has another season on his contract with the Mariners. But contracts are made to be broken - especially if there have been breaches. But it won't come down to lawyers at 10 paces. If Arnold truly wants to go, the Mariners won't go to court to keep him. Turnbull's relationship with his coach is much too honest for that.

Advertisement: Story continues below ''Arnie loves being here, and we love having him,'' Turnbull says. ''We've already started discussions to upgrade and extend his contract. We believe we've got the best coach in the A-League. A lot of people thought we were taking a risk when we got him from the FFA. We knew we weren't, and it's proved to be a pretty good decision. We expect him to stay.''

There are compelling reasons for Arnold to do just that. The Mariners, beaten in excruciating circumstances in last season's grand final, are in pole position to claim this season's minor premiership with one game to go. And, thanks to Saturday night's gritty win over Adelaide United, at worst they'll have to settle for a play-off place for next year's Asian Champions League. They're already one game into this year's ACL and, after a gutsy draw in Tianjin in their opening game, they'll be back at Bluetongue Stadium on Wednesday night to welcome Japanese heavyweights Nagoya Grampus for matchday two. On the field, the Mariners continue to excel at home and abroad, which is always a persuasive environment for a coach. And with a crop of the country's best youngsters on the books, there's every reason to believe the Mariners can maintain their status as the A-League's great overachievers.

Off the field, things are also starting to move in the right direction. After a lot of talk, the Centre of Excellence at Tuggerah is taking shape. The impressive Soccer 5s complex was officially opened last week, and Arnold was among those who tested the state of the art artificial turf during an eight-team tournament. That's an all-weather training option should the first team need it. Today, the Mariners move into their new football headquarters in the complex - which includes a gymnasium, two dressing rooms, a coach's room, and ultimately will incorporate a hydrotherapy pool. Next week, the turf will be laid on a full-size pitch next to the building and, according to Turnbull, will be ready to train on before the grand final. ''By next season, Arnie will have the best training facilities of any club in Australia,'' Turnbull says. There have been plenty of doubters, but the proof is starting to emerge that Tuggerah will become a facility to be envied.

And finally, after drawn-out negotiations, it seems the Russian consortium with links to CSKA Moscow is ready to sign as the Mariners new major investor, possibly as early as next weekend. That's the money and the networks the club might have lacked. Arnold knows these people, and they know him. Keeping him at the Mariners is one of their priorities.

It's also a priority of Sydney FC to prise him away, and he can expect a firm offer any day. The Sky Blues have identified him as their first choice to replace Vitezslav Lavicka. Their offer of about $350,000 is likely to be matched by the Mariners, but what Turnbull can't match is the pull of a big city club with all that profile. Stay tuned.

What Sydney can't match Mike, is an environment where he won't be thrown under the bus after a couple of losses by vicious and fickle supporters, in a club laden with a ludicrous sense of self importance and entitlement, completely unmatched by the city's actual interest of levels or support. All under the desperate and constant pro Sydney press scrutiny, complete with it's over rated playing roster, over sized football stadium, and under sized crowds.

With the appointment of GA to CCM. There were no supporters more vocal in their ridicule than SFC's.
I said the same thing when Aloi$i left incidentally.

All that "profile" Mike? Please. Arnie is no Glory hound. Aloi$i was. Arnie's a family and a football man, what's he gonna do, use all that profile to cavort with celebrity sex kittens and do blow off their foreheads?

The "profile" of sydney is an empty hyped up falsehood, full of utter piss and wind.
Though Shakespeare's "full of sound and fury and signifying nothing" is more eloquent and equally apt.

Arnie has bigger and better things in his future than the A league imo, I'd like to see him as NT manager again one day, and honestly going to Sydney those chances do not increase, in all likelihood they lessen. It's a serious spin of the barrel. Better off staying here and playing a russian game of another nature.

As to MV, Musky's dressing room? Harry? You must be joking.

No.

He is deeply appreciated and loved here. He could wooden spoon us next year and I wouldn't hear a word against him.
He is already achieving wonderful things. Has built a great squad. He lives in a wonderful part of the world, where what he does with Mariners genuinely makes a real difference to this community and the growth and identity of the Central Coast. He matters here. And he can leave a real legacy. As opposed to that handful of petulant, pumped up brats down the road where what matters most is only matching up to their own press engorged sense of self importnace as the "biggest" club in the league.

:vomit:

Give Arnie a coupe of marquees and the squad he has, and he could go on to be the first Aussie coach to win the ACL, hit Asia for some better coaching coin if he desires and take AUS to a world cup minus the baggage of the then retired golden generation he took to the ill fated Asian cup.

I'd be surprised if he went. Because I'm sure he knows all this already.
