ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I thought it was a penalty; my next door neighbour doesn't. But it is only a penalty if the referee deems an offence has been committed. The referee must have judged that Ryan got the ball or judged that he could not, without any reasonable doubt, say that Ryan got Williams. The ref has to call it as he sees it not look at Fox replays. And I maintain that if Williams had got up to take the penalty he would have blasted it over the bar like he did with every other shot he had.

Payne takes their penalties, just quietly.

I think the Ref got it right on the penalty claim.

Williams kicked the ball away from, not towards, the goal - before tripping over Matt's hands.

Is that tougue in cheek? Or are you being serious?

We deserved a break but a more blatant penalty you will not see.

I know Williams doesn't take the penalties; I said 'if' and I seem to remember one dirty little bugger by the name of Talay scoring the winner from the spot against us in the 4-5 frenzy against Sydney FC.

Yes, I'm serious, (not the Serious). I'm just making the observation - Matt clearly had eyes, and hands, for the ball, but it was kicked away from him. Yes, it had all the hallmarks of what we've come to expect as a straight penalty, but I'm with the Ref on this one.

There is no doubt he was tripped. Either the referee thought that he got the ball or as you said 'Matt clearly had eyes, and hands, for the ball' and the referee even though he thought he may have been tripped then also thought that he was not being careless, reckless or using excessive force

I must admit, my first reaction when I saw it was "Oh, shit!".
However, the ref was much closer than I was so I'll defer to his opinion

How many penalties have been given since the perez incident? Has there been any?
We have only recieved 1 (vs the Fury...the soft McBreen penalty- which the ref soon after refused to give one for the challenge vs Perez)
The rest of the comp...i would be interested to know as well

The referee clearly thought that Matt had gotten a hand on the ball. He wouldn't have awarded the corner otherwise.

I think he knew a second after he pointed to the corner that it should have been a penalty. There is no way that the ball could of come of Ryan, his hands would have pushed it away from the line and it wasn't spinning in a way which suggested he made slight contact.

There is no doubt in my mind that it was a penalty, anyone other than Gerard Parsons would have given it, he is a very gutless referee. I think he debuted with our 5-1 win at DFS last year, and I remember thinking the same thing.

Soft one in Syd v Adelaide. Fyfe? penalised for holding a player in the box off a corner.

No one on here was absolutely certain it was a penalty until they saw the replay on FoxSports. No one could definitely say that Ryan did not touch the ball until they had the advantage of the replay. The referee does not have this benefit, he has to call it live; to call him gutless is mind numbingly ignorant.

I'll admit that I haven't refereed a game of football before, but it did seem pretty clear to me at the time, and the look on the ref's face as he pointed to the corner suggested he thought it was probably a penalty, just was 'over-cautious' and found a way out of giving it.

Having said that, I would rather have a cautious, conservative ref than the 'look at me' card happy variety which we see a bit too much of, so I shouldn't criticise too heavily.

Bring back stare-bear Delovski I say.

Bring back stare-bear Delovski I say.

I am told that he was in a car accident sometime ago and is still recovering. That is why he hasn't been seen. My source says he hopes to get a first start (maybe not in the centre) around Christmas.
