ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Cocaine would get the Marinators going
Boost the population
And the game would be the best thing we've ever seen!
We'll get Steve, the gay Croat, to hook us up.

I am just going to say i have a neighbour who dont go to games often and they recieved free tickets to this game and said the flare added to the stadium's atmosphere when it was ripped.

They enjoyed the atmosphere at the end of the game and if it was like that all the time they would attend more regulary

I think everyone can agree that flares add atmosphere. Ever since Prometheus gave mankind Zeus' fire, we have been enchanted by such things. OS youtube clips can attest to how spectacular the use of flares can be.

You could also say that the game was absolute shite (from a CCMFC point of view) and if we actually played good football we would not need flares to add to the atmosphere cause the crowd would be buzzing from our awesome brand of football.

But then that would require us to be actually capable of good football, and also for the crowd to recognise it when it came about, so probably easier to just rip flares.

Flares and smoke canisters:

For:
- Look pretty
- Gives an aura of 'football kulcha'
- Anti-authority statement

Add any you think of

Against:
- Banned at stadiums, including ours
- Intense heat, leading to fire risk to property and persons
- Smoke, leading to breathing difficulties for asthmatics and others with breathing problems (declare interest here!)
- banned by FFA, leading to serious $ fine on our club
- security concerned, leading to more security and policing
- aura of 'football kulcha' not understood by general public or media, leading to bad publicity
- differently viewed by a range of fans, leading to internal disputes and lack of fans cohesion

Add any you think of

Will add my hand to the "lucky he was out of the bay at the time or would have likely stopped breathing" group

From a non-hard core, family orientated, naive, bow to all you who know better than me 'bout football, point of view, the flare at that match brightened a horrible night. Sorry but it did. It wasn't associated with violence (in that instance) and I don't see what was so bad about it. (oh shut up). I thought the pitch invasion was worse in whatever game that happened in (think i was drunk). The flare looked pretty....ahh.... and was good to divert attention away from Kawasaki supporters, they were good too.

I'm sure some people think that bashing any opposition supporter in sight also makes for a good atmosphere, a unified front.

Had to laugh at this thread though - for years we've been viciously bagging out NJ and MV for their use of fans, then the moment somebody amongst us rips one, everybody's like, ZOMG FLARES FTW!!!

No double standards here, no sirree bob.

Seems like a last-ditch effort to create 'atmosphere' after several seasons of discussion over the downward slide of the marinators hasn't yielded as positive results as we'd all like.

IMO, there's no point trying to emulate the displays we see overseas of entire stadiums lit up by flare after flare - after all, we don't exactly have the kind of whole-stadium support they do overseas either, so if that's the look people are hoping for then I think some people are going to be sorely disappointed.  Personally, when I see one or two twats rip a flare at a HAL match I just think 'European wannabe' and 'tosser'.

Let's build up our own style of support instead of hopelessly trying to emulate some of the displays we've seen (despite the lack of support) because we can't think of anything better to do - there's better ways to support our team and create atmosphere than releasing harmful chemicals via potentially dangerous devices into the crowd.

I think I'll quickly put on my flame proof suit now (And no, that's not for protection against the flares!)
