ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

We need to work v hard to keep the GGA out of our bay as they are obviously hellbent on causing trouble.

(Is it true that the flare chucker on the grassy knoll was wearing a Burberry scarf?)

Can confirm massive betting plunge on flare likelyhood in the game just after half time at betfair by GGA members.

Flares are routinely used in countries around Europe and South America, during football games, in order to aid the build-up of the atmosphere within the stadium. Hardcore supporter groups known as Ultras, often light flares at the beginning of games, when their team have scored, or at the end of a game, if their team has won

This pretty much sums it up. Creates atmosphere. Is a celebration.

Watching a bunch of people stand around, arms folded sipping their beer does nothing to create atmospheres at games.

Chuck in some flares, banners, and epic singing...and we're getting there.

And how are the other comments, side tracking to the GGA etc not also bringing this forum down the drain? Just askin'....am actually not trying to be an asshole.

I agree. Some injoking can isolate, discourage and hamper growth in support as it comes across as exclusive to some.

Banners and epic singing are great ideas.

Flares, though, are illegal.

I suggest if people want flares in the stands they write to their local member express their views. Get involved in the democratic process.
Until the law is changed, the use of flares is a crime in this sunburnt country that sits under the brightly shining southern cross.

Are flares illegal?

Not illegal in some stadiums :)

Flares look good, awesome that our small supporter group got one going, just gotta watch out for people who have asthma, guess that could end up bad for them ?

rly ?
ahaha

ya. rly.

TBH, there are plenty of other illegal things that go on at games.

Underage drinking, people that steal shit from peoples bags, people smuggling in alcohol from the outside.

And dangerous? Can they be THAT dangerous if they are sold? I spose, the Marinators have an advantage because the bay is so empty, there's plenty of empty spaces to rip it....

Ok, agreed the in-joking can isolate people...but what about the "Level 5" jokes that go on? In-jokes are going to happen everywhere. If we had to make posts that everyone would understand...this place would be incredibly boring.

Again Jerome, not trying to be an asshole, but you keep saying flares are illegal...then in your latest post, you ask: Are flares illegal? Did you suddenly realize you didn't know?

Unauthorised use of flares

There are severe penalties for the improper use of flares. Flares have a very serious purpose. Falsely indicating distress rightly carries a severe penalty, but it also wastes a lot of time and resources possibly weakening the ability to respond to a genuine emergency. Do not leave flares in your boat when it is not in use, and keep them away from children.
From the WA DPI.

Note: It is an offence to set off flares except in an emergency.
Boating Industry Australia site

Every source I have found, only refers to being used in open water, where laws are differant. The only other laws/regulations I can find, refer to the disposal of unused flares.

And whilst looking for info...I came across this douchebag's remark:

People who are against flares are probably middle class pussys who're against smacking children and shooting burgalars and other stuff like that. Footy needs good atmospheres not rows of people eating prawn sandwhiches. Flares should be allowed.
fromthedugout.tv

Smacking children and shooting burgulars?!

But anyway, to answer your question (which I thought you already knew...) I have no f**king idea if they are illegal.

Since they are illegal, and worthy of a massive fine, the official line would have to be no to flares.

I like flares. But they bring about more bad responses than they are worth. If there was not so much stigma around them in australia, then they may be a go-er, but since 9/10 people in the crowd go "ultra, thugs, deadbeats, criminals" they are not good for the look of the group or the game.

I understand your point Jesus, but based on the general crowd reaction as I percieved it, as well as maybe 6 people on here having a cry about it, I'd say that they're probably a bit more accepted than some would have you believe.

I _was_ half expecting Richard Noone to go off his rocker with a "hooligans ruined my night" article though.  ;)
