Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

If Lawrie was more professional he would bring Gumps in as an assitant coach and the mollycodling of piss poor players would end.

You bet. I've seen him train players and there is no quarter given.
For Gumps , a rest break in training is jogging rather than sprinting.  I kid you not!
Gumps offers a unique service: 90 mins of one-on-one training for only $70. I watched my son who played A grade last year and is his no 1 fan, run into the ground a few weeks ago.  My son paid for this with his pocket money, and looks forwards to his clinics he runs each school term.

He doesnt hold back if he thinks you have more to give.

I dont know why he wasnt the Mariners captain/coach. He is qualified enough and I dont see Wilkinson commanding the backline, let alone the mids and forwards too. We could have had 2 for the price of one which would offset paying out MacKinnas contract

Because he wasn't a starter.... he was a great impact player of the bench..... can't have a captain being a guy sitting on the bench... and every time he did start he couldn't keep running after 60 mins...... I would still like him around as a bench player to be honest.... but it didn't happen...

Is there going to be a farewell organised for Andre at all, by anybody?

If the club cannot be bothered maybe this is something the Marinators club should organise?

I'd bet quite a few of the players will sort something out amongst themselves and have a do for those leaving. Whether Lyall and Lawrie would be invited is another matter though....

Re: Marinators Club. Is that still operating?  ???
I was going to join in last season, but one thing led to another and I didn't get the CCLC membership amended. Do we just go into the CCLC membership office and ask them to add the Marinators onto the membership and pay the extra?

Whether he started or not was determined by (spits on ground) McKinna- he became the sub "impact player off the bench" after the falling out with management 2 seasons ago.

Your assumption is that as a player/coach, Gumps would continue (spits on ground )McKinnas policy-an unlikely scenario.

Agreed it is best to have captain on field but not an insurmountable problem-even if he is on the sideline being rested, he would also be the coach and could direct things from there in that role. Even so, a PLAYER/coach is not impossible.

As for endurance as a  starter, its difficult to get match fit when you are regularly denied full matches to develop that match endurance.

I also would like to have seen him play for us, but the lunatics are still running the asylum.

I couldn't agree more with fruitbats comments, especially the lunatics bit - Gumps certainly was an impact player and a leader among the team.

I also, have a son involved in Gumps coaching programme, through his own choice, and the improvement he has shown is remarkable.

Gumps is a fair and honest man and coach/trainer and he is going to be a huge loss to the CCM.

Why wasn't he offered a leadership role or even a liason role with the club. Best clubperson and sportsperson of the past 4 seasons for the CCM (my opinion).

I would like to see Andre do better with the Cattle we had for the final season...... don't think he would have...

Six figure salary for four seasons abd the opportunity to establish his academy/business through the Mariners brand.

I am sure he feels royally shafted.  ::)

Still, would have been nice for a farewell.

Perhaps, but far from being shafted. Maybe you ask him how he feels about it.

Before or after a few beers?

Personally, I would've preferred that they'd kept Gumprecht. However, is it possible that they got rid of him to free up all 5 of their foreign spots? Afterall, we've agreed to terms with Nicky Travis and are trialling another 4 O/S players. That makes 5.
Just a thought...

Oh, and good luck Andre with everything in the future

Hmmm - so now Gumps would be a better fitness coach than Clarky?

Fitness was not our issue - we just don't have the players and it showed once Mile left....He was the glue and without him we fell apart...

I agree we should have bought better players, but given that McKinna (spit!) et al dumped us with cattle, thats all we had to work with. There is a limit to what you can do with mediocre players, but at least greater fitness is something that can be changed- look at what Hiddink did with the socceroos before 2006. Those guys thought they WERE fit until he gave them a working over.

Secondly we had nothing to lose and everything to gain by using Gumprecht to train them in other areas too. I believe his getting a higher ticket than Mckinna (Spit!!) has. McKinna (spit!) did very little with the herd anyway, so it was worth a gamble on Gumps.

Sit back and relax, here comes the wooden spoon.

Good luck to gumps and wish him all the best. I suspect he will shine for his new team possibly because he's given a chance to.

Should have been McKinna and some others before him.

Sucking the spoon leaves a bad taste in the mouth and I suspect we will find out. Hope for all I'm wrong and our new signings are better than some of the current ones.
