Well, as it has been announced that Andre Gumprecht has been excluded from the Mariners squad for the upcoming 2009/10 A-League season, I thought it best if we had a Thread dedicated to the man and the work he has done for the Mariners over these past 4 seasons.
He is a crowd favourite, a hero to many youngsters, and I have found the guy - off the pitch - one of the nicer professional sportspeople I have ever met.
There are ample stories of him being ever so approachable and willing to engage the people in our community and provide that 'hero' thing that kids all look for.
To me, Andre is not only a credit to himself and his family for his high work ethic and good professional approach, but to Football in Australia.
From what I know, Andre came to Australia to play for Perth Glory where he was successful in being a player in their NSL Premiership winning sides. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
When the NSL folded he gained a contract with a Singaporean side before returning to Australia to become one of the founding players in the Central Coast Mariners.
His presence on the pitch and in the squad will be missed by the Mariners, and one hopes that he stays on the Coast so he can continue to inspire the many youngsters who look up to him.
