only one more thing to add, I assume CCM will get the third play off (half) spot for next year's ACL, so hope you guys sieze the opportunity like MV did so we have three Aussie teams in the group stage - the greater good for our football in Australia

If the AFC don't change things again, and if the FFA Cup winner doesn't get a spot (as they should)

imo simon should've started instead of bernie cos unlike bernie he didn't travel to japan midweek

I can't believe people still rate Simon. He was a great player before he left. But not anymore. Sorry unless he says with us on minimum wages then we should ditch him and pay some decent money for some quality or train an up and comer.

Victory are out of the ACL too. o_O Victory have never made it out of the group stage while we have in the past, so not sure what opportunity we're supposed to seize like them.
If anything they should be more like us. ;)

Anyway, let's see how you guys handle a packed Lang Park next weekend.

C'mon Ro......c'mo.....c'mon Roar...:vomit:

I'd agree with most of that.
I got the feeling watching Simon this season, not that he's in bad form, but that the League has passed him by. I could be wrong though.
As to Duke, threatening he may be and he keeps the defence busy but as a No. 9 he's just not scoring enough. I put it down to the messed up season but if he doesn't score a few next year it might be time to move him on.

Like Most others here you are missing the point Vic.

Neither Simon orDuke can look good with our ultra defensive 541.....possibly only Drogba could.

Not only do we leave our sticker hanging out to dry we don't even support him from midfield.

Duke was excellent last night but had zero options but to try and beat four defenders on his owm.

To be honest it makes me sick in the guts to watch Football like that.

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
Bloody Matt Simon...all he does is run around banging into people....ditch him says I....the east gosford sportsman of the millenium is fkn useless

Yes they will be fearing the embarrassment of copping one of the 5 goals these 2 strikers dished up this season

Apart from Ibini our scoring was a disgrace from all over the park and our two best players were our keeper and a defensive mid (Monty)

The only times Matt Simon has been really effective has been when he's had an effective striker/goal-sneak beside him.
His best season was when he had Sasho beside him; when Sasho fell out of favour, Matt's goals dried up.
In the half-season he played before he went away, he had Macca beside him; since he's come back he's been up front on his own & it doesn't seem to work for him. If we're going to keep running with a single striker then we need to get one who can be effective in that situation, which means we may have to cut Matty loose. I wouldn't like that because I think he's a good guy, but if he can't do the job, then...

I half agree with you, that's why I said " I put it down to the messed up season". If the midfield was firing and getting good balls forward maybe they could shine, that's why Duke deserves another season, but Simon - running and fouling is not enough. I love his energy and the fact he chases things down when others would give up but I just don't think he is at a high enough level skill wise. Like I said before, I could be wrong.
To be honest it makes me sick in the guts to watch Football like that.
I'm hoping for and expecting an improvement across the board next season. We will see how they go.

Charmed Wombat.

How was the 5-4-1 when we beat Brisbane two weeks ago?
I find it interesting how people think of it as defensive and parking the bus but it's only a 541 when they have the ball. It's 433 when you get the ball and having monty sit deep doesnt slow down the attack at all. All it really means is one less guy jogging at the centre backs and one more guy in the thick of it.

No one in our squad can do that job.

Our formation is horrible.

If you are going to have an isolated striker then you have to have your middies streaming through in support. We don't and our movement of the ball is terrible.

We have a dig for 10-15 mins then just retreat and defend.

Our attacking starts would be the worst in the league.....I'll leave that to the trainspotters to dissect.

I give us 10 for heart.
7 for quality.
1 for team structure.

Man U win 4 nil in the first game after they takes the brakes off.

How about we take the brakes off.

What??? I state my opinion and all I get from you is a personal attack. Classy. What is this the 442 forum???

I hate losing.
I hate soft soaping.
I hate people picking what whey think is a soft target and using them as a scapegoat.
On the mini bus on the way home someone said Simon should have started as if that would have fixed it. I gave my opinion that he actually would have been less effective than Duke with that formation.
Duke and Simon are both very good players with huge hearts and fantastic work rates but playing either of them or Ibini or Kwas as a one out striker with little support is desperate and clueless.
CCM and Mossy are better than that.

BTW...I have never claimed to be classy and if you call yourself Capt Awesome you better have a solid chin......(sorry just reread that..not a personal threat at all....I just mean with a name like that better be able to back up an argument )

Disagree, virtually every player scored this season, even hutch chimed in with an own goal :innocent:

It's not funny.

Our penetration from midfield was terrible and quite a few of our miserable tally were flukes or wonder strikes.

I've been in a bad mood all day after last night and its time for me to vent.

It's almost never 433.

And the so caled second bank of 3 never drive through to support your imaginary front 3.

How the f**k can you think we are not defensive......our whole structure is about getting EVERYONE behind the ball and trying to use pace to counter attack from deep.

If Moss had Rooney and Van Persie then, yeah take the brakes off but we lost Zwaanswijk, Bojic and then Sainsbury, had new guys come in and without a defence in top order we would have been cut to pieces and never made the finals. Moss played the cards he was dealt and didn't do too bad. He had to hit the ground running and get results.
Now he has some time to get us back to the attacking form we were in last season.
