Glad to beat the sorest bunch of losers I have ever seen, love the comments FFA Wanderers, FFA scheduling, ACL scheduling, westie scum, drivebys, referee hammered us, Ono should have been sent off blah blah blah. What a load of horseshit, you guys created nothing all night, sure fatigue was a huge factor and tbh you guys over achieved after what you went through mid season with the heart pulled out of your team but seriously Ive never heard so much sooking all night. Some even went so far at the Leagues Club last night saying CCM were robbed by the ref as they dominated the contest (lol really, I dont remember Covic making a save) As for Mossy, class act you reckon, maybe, but he has an excuse for every occassion and as the dust settles people will realise that he changed the formation of your team 4 weeks ago and that cost you places in both the GF and ACL Rnd 16, trying to win with the players you've got is always the way to go not trying not to lose, but anyway what do I know Im just driveby scum. Enjoy the off season and no doubt we will be renewing the rivalry next season.

take it or leave it champ, I was on here last season after you guys won congratulating you guys, the best games WSW have been involved in have been between our two teams, bugger Derbies (SFC and Jets) are hardly an interesting challenge for either of us these days. if you dont like football banter between clubs and only want to talk to your own insular group good on you, you do that, but I like talking football win/lose/draw.

The Yellow Army & Band - saved their best until last. Who would have thought that we could have out-sung the RBB for large parts of the game. Just watch the TV replay for proof of that. Just shows what can be done despite being the smallest club in the League.
This.
Fantastic job PP, his helpers and the band! It was a pleasure to be part of.

Some respect shown from other quarters - SFCU http://sfcu.com.au/smf202/index.php?topic=21201.0

Awkward moment when Mariners are outsinging RBB.

But the expected from WSW fans (various sources):
You could have your whole supporter base in the active area and still not be heard at Pirtek stadium.
We were in bay 69 and the bays to the left of us were full of Mariners fans. They started off very noisy but then got very quiet, particularly when that second goal went in. Most of them then started to head home soon after that. For some reason they weren't interested in seeing the rest of the game.
Honourable exception mention to 'wsw' above. Thanks for visiting and congrats. Of course, amid the away bay's noise I could hear little from the RBB most of the match (until the whole stadium was involved in the "chant they invented") but certainly wouldn't have the audacity and disrespect to assume they were quiet.

I couldn't give a rats about the WSW fans on here; no pats on the head from me - you won last night, hope Brisbane wins today and towels you up next week. Now jog on.

For us; it was a pretty tired looking performance, and a bit toothless. I wasn't expecting us to play the backwards facing triangle last night, but watching the energy levels I can see why they did. It meant that both Caceres and Hutch were looking to push on as a pair of #10s, and it sorta worked, because we found a lot of space on the flanks to open them up, but the final ball was lacking. WSW defended narrow and left the channels open, but were also clever in closing the crossing paths down. Best example; when Duke broke away and was kept wide but had to shoot because there was no cross possible.

We pretty much had to go wide, because it seemed every time we were in the middle there'd be some niggly, cynical foul to break up play. It was as frustrating as it was predictable; what seemed a concerted tactic to slow down our counter-attacks. Wanderers fans (and even our own) might complain that we were negative, looking to soak and hit on the break, but at least we were within the laws of the game. Had KGJ been a bit quicker on the cards, it might have opened the game up a little.

Also, I'm not quite sure how La Rocca stayed on the park (should've had at least yellow for his hand to the throat, and a second yellow later), nor am I sure
how Ono didn't get a second yellow for his time-wasting shot waaaaay after the whistle in the second half. Bosnar's tackle in the corner was a bit on the orange side of a yellow card, but he'd still have been a little hard done by to get red. Was there also something about La Rocca with another elbow? He's got form, maybe the MRP will have something to look at.

Anyway, moving on, Mariners have done everything this year the hard way.

At the end of February that while we'd we'd lost 5 matches in a row, lost 5 first teamers in the off-season and another three during the year, plus the coach, plus the fitness coach, plus our star signing to injury.

By season's end we'd have been within 20 minutes of the knockout stages in the ACL after drawing the group from hell, getting goal difference from second and one match from the Grand Final.

Shows a bit of character. A bit of pride. A bit of guts.

That's what I take from this year. So what if we do it the hard way. We're the Mariners.

Well come and talk football then. Talking shit won't get you far here. There's enough of you talking stupid shit towards us on WestSydneyFootball - and OK, that's where it belongs if that's how you celebrate.

But football wise, my summary was WSW were a nose a ahead in the first half, CCM in the second. It was a more even game than many are saying. But if you don't convert your chances you lose. Simple. This "parking the bus" rhetoric based on the dropping of a CDM back as a sweeper in a backline who for 4 years has been based on mobile wingbacks attacking... pfft - not last night.

Did I even watch the same game as everyone else? I thought we were great, great effort from everyone, few mistakes sans Hutcho's multiple brain farts, but a whole lot of effort. Could see some blokes were tired, but how good was Reddy and Monty? The game could've gone either at some points, the only thing I want to whinge about is the shocking playing surface down the RBB end. Saw obvious slip ups from both Covic and Bernie because of it. But apart from that, no complaints, heads held high and very keen for next year. Wish I could've been there, atmosphere looked great.

I also thought you shaded us in the second half and I have got no problem with a team playing a defensive unit, look at WSW last season our whole season was based on that defensive structure (but our talisman was one Dino Kresinger for starters). I just think that Duke is toothless playing one out, and players like Ibini and Simon are all in your best 11 and should be on the park, its no secret when the structure changed second half it was a different game, same as when it changed in Asia after you conceded. Sure I dont know the condition of the players fitness etc but what I will say is Im surprised with all the Moss love going around when I think his tactics in both games were awful. Contrary to what you think Ive got nothing but admiration for CCM, how they keep doing it losing players, coaches and especially mid season and with little cash is beyond me, I also love heading up to CCM games in my rx7 up the freeway so my young uns can fill up at the all you can eat and I dont need to feed them again til Wedneday :) (pension day!) thankfully.

gripping game - as a WSW supporter, very pleased with result - onward to GF with confidence even if played at Suncorp - well done to CCM & their travelling fans who were worthy opponents - vale Mile Sterjovksi and thanks for a wonderful career; a true legend of our game - congratulations to CCM on another fine season, and so close to R16 of ACL

(ps I think CCM core active support has now surpassed its traditionally fiercest rival, the Jets - well done and keep the culture growing)

The grand final possibilities as is now stands hold some amusement value...

Brisbane vs WSW:
1. WSW get to experience the feeling of losing a second grand final (hey - they're catching up ;) but without the winning feeling). OR
2. A massive Brisbane home crowd finally get to experience the new emotion of witnessing their team beaten, instead of the rather unpleasant emotion of heart-in-mouth that we and Glory gave them on their previous 'Orange Sundays'.

WSW vs Victory
1. The circle jerk of how wonderful is each's active support being shadowed by the ignominy of the first grand final played in a half-full stadium. That there was still tickets for a GF qualifier last night, against a historic rival in a stadium one quarter the size of ANZ is disturbing. My guess would be about 30,000 WSW, 10,000 MVFC, maybe a couple of thousand neutrals - less face it, who else in Sydney is interested in a win for either of these teams?
2. Same as 1. in Brisbane vs WSW
3. Victory have the experience of failing to live up to their name for a second consecutive appearance.

Congrats to you guys. No one can argue that you're a very solid outfit under popovic. Though you can forget Ono for me, it's Hersi who is by far your best player.
I enjoyed the away trip yesterday with my family and had no issues at all.

As for comments on here. I really don't like the westy scum references. I think people should seriously pull there heads in with those comments.
Whereas the "Drive buys" stuff etc is smarter, less vitriolic, and so just acceptable banter as far as I'm concerned.

That being said, having read a few before, really I think after visiting the losing team forum after an elimination final, that this place is remarkably well behaved and even somewhat rational. I also really like that you guys can come on here and have a chat without it immediately breaking down into hurled abuse. I remember you coming on last year to offer congrats too mate. Good form.

As to our football...I disagreed with mossy choices last ACL game and thought we were too negative, but I don't think it's Mossy's brand of football. Many of the great teams of the world play a similar 451 at present. But it definitely requires mobility on the counter, and if you can simply professionally foul the opposition every time they try to break and not get carded... then that's an end to your attack right there. It's good coaching by Popovic in it's own way. But as Roy aptly put it, it's of the dark arts and hard to like when it's being used against you.

I agree that Simon and Duke etc would do better playing beside another striker. Simon has always had his best seasons when doing so. But leaving for that to happen either Monty or Hutch would be on the bench each game. Some disagree, but I think both have proven themselves to be very important players for CCM.

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
Much cudo's to Mossy and the boys for a difficult season played, for the most part, well....MoM for mine was Fitzy...his a deadset machine and he improves a level during off season, his gonna be scary....as for out visiting WSW fans here on the forum...umm, why?...it wouldnt occur to me to join a Wanderers forum, cant get a decent conversation over at yours huh?....anyway, your boys have had a decent year....enjoy the week but sadly, the Roar are gonna demolish you next week...;)

Great effort and heart from the boys but at the end of the day our football was no where near what we are capable of. A lot of people blaming the heavy schedule but don't really buy into that as the schedule is no where near as heavy as else where.

Can't work out why Mossy brought Hutch back into the team given we were playing the same formation as the last 2 A-League games. Not sure if it was out of loyalty or because he is club captain but we beat Brisbane and Adelaide with Monty and Caceras playing 6 & 8. Caceras gives us much more go forward playing one of the holding roles with Kim or Trifiro playing 10. Hutch slows our attack and didn't have a good game last night, I think it was a tactical mistake by Mossy but overall he has done a good job with the team this year and will build on it next.

Yeah but if you'd watched any of our games this season and paid attention (clearly what ALfan hasn't done), you'd notice that Bernie has been on fire, Duke has been a constant threat, and all Simon has done is looked like a threat of getting a red card. Simon has been mostly useless this season as a striker. Starting Bernie-Duke-Fitz was the right choice, hands down, every day of the week.

Hutcho was our worst player last night and by some margin.

Fitzy was busy but lacking in finesse for mine.....no where near Weemacs level.

Not really.

A 442 with Duke and Simon would actually have teams fearing us.

I'd agree with most of that.
I got the feeling watching Simon this season, not that he's in bad form, but that the League has passed him by. I could be wrong though.
As to Duke, threatening he may be and he keeps the defence busy but as a No. 9 he's just not scoring enough. I put it down to the messed up season but if he doesn't score a few next year it might be time to move him on.

thanks for some positive feedback

(although not looking for kudos and breaking into diplomatic duties e.g. our relationship with Indonesia! also, no offence taken for any posts that choose to throw a few barbs at the forum invaders from "westie land" - and many of us grew up being called far worse than some entertaining references!)

obviously, this is your CCM fans forum and we need to respect that integrity

only one more thing to add, I assume CCM will get the third play off (half) spot for next year's ACL, so hope you guys sieze the opportunity like MV did so we have three Aussie teams in the group stage - the greater good for our football in Australia

buenas noches
