EXCLUSIVE: [glow=red,2,300]Lawrie McKinna believes David Carney could play up to 11 games for the Mariners[/glow] if he can sign the out-of-favour Sheffield United winger on loan as a marquee this month.

McKinna contacted Sheffield United yesterday about offering the Socceroo a loan spell at Bluetongue stadium.

That spell could significantly boost the Mariners' A-League chances if the former Sydney FC star arrived on a marquee deal at the end of January.

This would mean the Sheffield United Aussie could play in the A-League finals in February – if the Mariners, as expected, qualify – as well as the Asian Champions League starting in March.

The attacking wingback potentially gets 11 quality games under his belt before the next transfer window opens in Europe.

The Mariners supremo told au.fourfourtwo.com the Carney option would benefit both club and player.

"If he wants a move and doesn't get anything in Europe, he's better off coming back on loan and playing games rather than reserve football.

"Nothing's official. I've emailed Sheffield United yesterday about it and have not heard back."

He added: "It gives him a chance to put himself back in the shop window ahead of the June transfer window.

"We don't have the full squad right now, we've got about 18 players so it'd help us.

[glow=red,2,300]"We should know in about ten days."[/glow]

Its been ten days, TerrigalUtd!

EREDIVISIE side FC Twente may come to the rescue of another Socceroo as they prepare to make a bid for transfer-listed David Carney.
The Dutch side is currently home to Socceroo striker Nikita Rukavytsya and are now said to be very keen on adding flying left wingback Carney to their squad roster for the new season.

A report in the local Dutch press says the Europa League side wants to add another leftback to their mix to challenge the current squad members for the spot - and Carney is top of the shortlist.

Carney has been transfer-listed at Sheffield United after a disastrous move to the Championship side two seasons ago. A falling out with the manager has seen Carney fail to even make the bench now.

Blades boss Kevin Blackwell is now so determined not to include Carney in his plans, he named a squad that was one substitute light for their recent match against Reading rather than give the Aussie a break.

But despite the lack of game-time, Carney continues to shine on the international stage with impressive performances for Australia, including a scorcher goal earlier this month against Ireland.

Carney was recently on trial at Belgian side Anderlecht and impressed management there but the expected exit of their current leftback failed to materialise which meant the former Sydney FC star was not needed.

If the latest deal goes through, Carney will join rising Socceroo star Rukavytsya at the club, in a move which could benefit the Australia side if the two develop a flourishing partnership on the field.

Twente also came to the rescue of struggling Luke Wilkshire who moved there after failing to make an impact in England at Middlesbrough and Bristol City, until then-Australia coach Guus Hiddink stepped in and engineered his move to Holland where Wilkshire went on to shine.

Gee, I just shake my head when I read the shit that Carney is supposedly getting, like the Manager even going to the extreme of running one sub light, rather than include him on the bench.

I'm not the greatest fan of 'right foot David' but really, when it comes to that sort of alleged extreme you wonder what the hell he's done so wrong? Bonked the Manager's wife or something?

It is probably better for both parties he's now transfer listed and there hopefully can be some move negotiated to the satisfaction of all parties.

Did you miss this article last year. I could be wrong but I don't think he has played since. I think everyone assumed he was pissed at the time.

David Carney has swapped the euphoria of Tashkent for a likely bust-up at Bramall Lane after declaring he doesn't want to play for Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell any more because his tactics are 'horrible'.

After just 13 months with the Blades, Socceroos wideman Carney appears to be heading for the exit door, citing irreconcilable differences with a coach whose methods leave him cold.

Any chance of an unlikely rapprochement all but disappeared when Carney touched down in England after an 18-minute cameo as a replacement for Mark Bresciano in the crucial 1-0 World Cup win over Uzbekistan, and said: "I really don't want to play for him (Blackwell) any more.

"He's a horrible man to play for, tactically he's terrible - it's just all about the long ball.

"I'll have a talk with him this weekend and hopefully get out on loan to a club that suits my style better.

"If I changed my style to suit him then I probably wouldn't get picked for the Socceroos anymore.

"He came and saw me play for the Socceroos and told me he didn't like the way I played for them, so what can you do?

"It's not a good situation. I wanted to leave at the end of last season and told him so.

"And going to the Olympics probably didn't help my cause with the boss."

After making 25 appearances in his debut season for the Championship side, the former Sydney FC flier has been sighted just once in six games so far this term - and that was in a League Cup tie.

And after his no-holds-bared assessment of Blackwell's credentials and methods, it's difficult to see him adding to that tally any time soon.

Just in case there was any ambiguity, Carney added: "I don't think he (Blackwell) will ever take Sheffield United to the Premier League or coach at that level. He doesn't have the brains or the ideas to do it in the top flight.

"He belongs in the lower leagues - but I don't belong there with him."

The technically adept Carney is uncertain which direction the compass might point for him.

"I'd like to stay in England," he added. "But I will have to go somewhere that suits the way I play. I think there will be a few changes for me in the next few months - hopefully anyway."

While desperately unhappy at his club, he is on a high for his country, despite losing his first-team spot to full-back Scott Chipperfield.

"I welcome the competition with Chippers, he has great experience and he's sheer quality," he added.

"I'll just have to bide my time and hopefully learn off him along the way.

"I'm happy with that, I'm still young (24) and hopefully have a few years ahead of me now with the national team."

And Carney's assessment of the victory in Tashkent?

"It was a great win, we would have settled for a draw going into the game," he admitted.

"They are a decent side, second half they came at us and we did well to hold on.

"If we win all our home games and get odd draw away now, we'd be basically through.

"At the back we were excellent, that's what kept us in it."

Carney sees little prospect of a dropping of the guard against Qatar on October 15 at Suncorp Stadium.

"We've beaten them twice already this year (in World Cup qualifying) and I see no reason why we should slip up next month," he added. "I feel we're in pretty good shape, although a lot can still happen over the next seven qualifiers." ]
