ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

clarifying a small point about Roy.

Ok, all the talk in the papers and on the net is stating that Roy will be cited for the headbutt in the NYE game BUT the laws state that if the ref deals with the issue (which he did by issuing a yellow), no further action can be taken. Am I correct in this or do the FFA ignore the internationally accepted rules and do what they like anyway?

Thanks

Also depends on what the yellow was issued for.

The match report is critical.

Was it for the New Years kiss or the melee after it?

Also would like the media to stop saying how long they think he should be out for.

I think it's been pointed out elsewhere there is something now called "obvious error". I understand that the incident can be looked at again by the FFA.
In one of the stills it did look Roy was just resting his head on Muscat's shoulder to be honest.

I've thought about how long he'll be out for and I was hoping for a couple of weeks. However I now think the FFA will throw the book at him.
Reason being is because of all the bad behaviour by fans being talked about in the press recently. They've got to be seen doing something about the violence.

It's irrelevant. The referee made an obvious error, the rules provide for the MRP to review, and he's gonna have a case to answer.

Given that Muscat is in the same boat, I'm perfectly happy with that outcome. You don't want kids watching the game to think elbowing or headbutting are acceptable.

Videos from Facebook have over half a million views of the incident, good publicity? :p

Interesting that the vast majority of the neutral viewers who don't even know it's the Aleague comment that it's a result of poor refereeing, if Muscat got sent for the first elbow it never would have happened....

It's true. Not that it mitigates responsibility. I have to laugh at the sheepshaggers that reckon there was no swinging arm from Muscat! Thug had a history of throwing elbows.
But yeah, there's the 'we know the ref made a decision, but he clearly had no idea what was happening, so we're going to look at it anyway' clause. Incidents like this probably show why its in place.
Disappointed that they seems to have stopped adjudicating on dives though.

I'd love to know what Muscat said when he ran back to get in Roy's face though.

Not having Fox, that's about the best quality I've seen of the incident. Looks like another headbutt to me.

yeah it was only a few moments before - muscat flings an elbow and misses and catches Roy across the face with his wrist. Roy throws up his hands and looks at the ref but nothing. In an article I saw Roy suggests it happened more than once too but that was the only one i saw

Yeah Muscat definitely took two cracks at it - and roy didnt reatilate just appeals to ref... Hope this is taken into account somewhat... Muscat going back for a third effort has got them both almost certainly suspended.

So does anybody have any idea when his cheek was cut? It looks fine in that gif then.

I reckon it's when he rested his head on Muscats shoulder
:D
Errrhhmmm, maybe "it's when his head impacted on Muscats shoulder it opened up the cut and more of the claret flowed."

Watching copious videos of the incident I think Roy's eye was already swollen prior to the head butt. But in any case, in spite of the degree of previous provocation by Muscat, it was very injudicious of him because for sure, on a CCM complaint, Muscat would have been called before the MRP and some justice would have been served. Gotta love the Irish! :p
