was an average game at best

Anyone who was surprised Kwas took the penalty is kidding themselves, whenever he has been here he's taken them. We all know what he can do when he doesnt have too long to think, unfortunately Hutcho's treatment meant he had what felt like a lifetime, you could see him walking around trying to keep calm, bouncing the ball. Bolton still had to pick the right way so I won't be blaming him.

Pedj again, incredible

Bojic was rubbish in midfield. I saw even more from Elrich to be honest!

what game were you watching?

Yes he was and he is right... Porter lost more ball than you could throw a stick at... Elrich had a mixed game ... did some crap passes into the box .. gave some silly passes as well... but our attack came down his side and he held the ball up well at times...and most of our best chances came from plays he was involved in.

Kwas was a joke taking the penalty ... the moan of those around me when he picked up the ball.. No Travis that I saw ... Dylan Mac OMG how he gets on the park before Travis ... How he gets on the park at all... just think we let Sash go for Nil & Dylan ...

Most of all I was disappointed in how we held shape today... we did defend well ... but neither side stood out... Choppers as crap as us...

McClinchey best on the park today IMO

Pretty lack lustre performance by both teams, there was a whole lot of nothing followed by a little of something by us in last 10 minutes.

In saying this i am stoked with our defence, i think we are one of, if not most solid defensive team in league this year. We just need a little attacking flair and i think if caceraes man's up with a bit of heart and work ethic we will have it, on hte ball he always looks dangerous for mine.

Dru terrific post!
:goodpost:

Some people are just plain strange... Mc Glinchey clearly had one of the better games out of our squad and Pedj continues with good form. Danny is back. Wilko has stepped up. Heff pwned Danning and so is probably being under estimated for the class of his performance today. Boogs solid. Hutch solid... I thought Porter did not have one of his better games today, gave the ball away and usually delivers several much better quality balls than he did, but thankfully he started to find his touch for the last 20 minutes.

Its our attack that has me concerned... and our finishing especially...

Ahmad, looks like what he is, a player with ability getting his first start and trying to work his way back to form. Some good moments some bad, lacks his former pace at least for the present, and subsequently does not look confident in running at players. Which you need from your wingers imo. Matty, when your that isolated and getting the treatment you will as a dangerous lone striker then it's REALLY going to take it out of you... and it did imo and its a role that will struggle to bare much fruit goal wise for him this season I fear. Kwas had a solid game all in all I felt, but could definitely release quicker at times, actually they all could to be fair. Some more 1 touch football and confidence on the ball in attack. Re the pen, it was heartbreaking to watch a great chance to take all three points slip away... poor bugger won't be getting much sleep tonight. D Mac, sigh, definitely not a wide player, virtually looks like he has no idea at all what he's doing out there.... He should probably be upfront and I'm hating the lone striker, but I'm also not convinced that D Mac will score, he's getting his chances and he could have won it for us today, and probably should have. What do you do bring on Nik?
:-[
Didn't think we would have a problem upfront this season but am concerned now?

If we persist with this formation, your midfielders absolutely have to step up or otherwise we will continue to be hard to break down which is good, but like Adelaide will also struggle to get on the score sheet.

All in all, defensively we are supremely improved and people should not under estimate what they saw today. Sydney are a strong and well organised unit this year with a good attack, but they did not open us up as many times as they did Adleaide and the reds have one of the best defences in the league. A draw is nothing to be ashamed of imo and we should have nicked it to boot... Mind you they could have too...

Also Travis did not come on that I saw.

The penalty was a shocker. Two meters along the ground to Boltons right was never going to go in. Isn't the rule now that if a defender enters the penalty area before the kick is taken and the shot is saved then it is re-taken. In  real time and on the replay I thought Shannon Cole was inside the penalty area running close to the referee before Kwas stuffed up his shot.

The first positive thing Elrich did today was to remove his decoration from his knee. Maybe that is a sign that he is gaining confidence and hopefully there could be better things from him in the future (although I am not convinced).

When is someone going to teach Porter how to throw in. Most times he releases the ball toward the rear of his head on the up. Therefore his throws lack the velocity to go as far as he wants them to. The lobbing nature of the throw puts more pressure on our players in trying to control it against an agressive defender.

Another positive step was that someone finally realised among the referees group that their outfit for the last two weeks clashes with with our uniform. It showed up in the scum game and again in the first half today. Hence the change of uniform of the referees at half time. I hope they make sure in the future and leave their black shirts in the locker room.

I was pretty pissed off with many of the supporters around me deathriding Kwassies penalty attempt. He has scored many and I cannot remember him missing one. It wasn't the greatest penalty but it needed a very good save.

I wasn't happy with the result or the performance - though I did get some bright spots.

Heff I thought played well defensively on Danning - though gave a way the ball a bit. However, some of his running in the second half was baack to his Season 1 form.

Finally on Ahmad - I am really looking for a big season from him. 60 minutes today probably did him the world of good. While his crossing needs some work - some of his balls through for Porter were sublime.

Bojic was awful - it may look great running around all day like an energizer bunny but he is without doubt the worst passer of a ball in the club (and there is a fair bit of competition for that title) That was the first penalty I have seen Kwasnik miss (and he didn't miss it...) The defence was excellent, Boogard very strong and Heffernan owned rising star Danning (who schooled Jamieson last week). Elrich nowhere near his best but will be much better for getting a start; Vukovic is back  McGlinchey MoM and getting better week by week, terrific heads up play to feed McAllister in the final minute  :eek:verhead:. Is Hutchinson trying to set a league record for yellow cards? He's getting a record Tiatto or Muscat would be proud of :yellowcard: Have to laugh at Sydney forum which claimed last week their superior fitness would see them run over us in the last twenty minutes - we outlasted them easily. And finally, this European coach crap, this so called genius from world footballing power Czech Republic - Sydney played rugged, hoof the ball up English Tier three football - bring back Terry Butcher! :redcard:

Kwas' penatly was a good shot, it was just a greater save made by Bolton. Anyone stepping up to take the match winning "shut the gate" penalty in the 92 minute has big cahones.
have you seen the replay?????
it was not a 'bad' shot but it was def not a good shot. a real average shot.

I thought Kwassie looked very nervous before the penalty and it was a weak shot, lacking power.
He isnt a great goal scorer generally, and I wonder why Simon doesnt take them.

Elrich had good service and ran well down the right but ended up wasting it with really poor crosses. He was poor at that last season with Phoenix and hasnt improved.

Simon runs his guts out all day upfront, I think he needs more support up there.

because he doesn't put his hand up?

The game wasn't the best but the positives out of the game are definitely keeping a clean sheet, I thought it was a good effort from Boogs and Wilko.

Not many teams will keep Sydney scoreless this season IMO

Re the penalty, yep wasn't the best effort but he chose a corner and made the keeper work, it was a good save, IMO it's always best to go high, there's always a risk when you strike it low.

Or down the guts..... Most keepers will pick a side and just go.... luck was with Bolton on that score.

Another positive is if someone had told you we would be undefeated after 3 games we would have taken it......

yeah 5 points from 9 is a good start, especially for the knockers out there
still, we should have bagged 3 points yesterday - alot of Kwas bashing in bay 23 yesterday, reminiscent of season 2

When he was playing for East Gosford he refused to take one in a shoot out from memory, his step brother told my brother that he hates the pressure of them

i think it wasnt a BAD game, sure it wasnt a shining light by any means, but a solid effort,
i thought it amusing when my mate shouted kwasi was going left, such happened.
Vukos was sharp granted not much to do
Porter Yes Great in attack, but is easily past with a quick pacer like Byun.
Wilkinson- alot more self confident, yep clearances could have been the deal breaker, with out some good scramble
Boogard- didnt watch much, no comment
Heffernan- Almost completely (somehow) shut danning out of the game, key to keeping a clean sheet.
Bojic- defensively solid, in attack ran at their mids, who in the majority he got past, a possible support to help mcglinchey, can we fine him every time he takes a shot? twice in two matches from memory

Hutchinson- solid game, match saving coffin in our six yard box in the first half.  2nd half broke his habit of backward passing, how he ended up in opposition 6 yard i have no idea, but id almost won the match.
Elrich- Has lost his spark which im sure he has or had, at the moment id agree porter is a better option, or the released bald man.

McGlinchey- MOM class, vision and worked his absolute nut off he desperately needs a viduka sized wingman, he'll get crunched, but as yet has never been shut out of a game very good signs, congrats to the all whites call up.

Kwasnik- 50-50, softly taken penalty

Simon- worked hard, but was nackered by probably the 80th it seems, if we play lone striker, slot someone in just behind him, enabling him to run riot with the defence

Subs

McAllister- right mid, forward, what ever it was he was the mrdja of the match, came on and was exhausted it seems after 10 minutes, seems to me should be man behind simon holding ball and threading then through

Travis- would love to see this kid get a full half

The other sub - Lewis caceres, thats who id like to see, and huke when he gets fit again

Great to see all the positive feedback about the game. I thought we played well, we were rock solid at the back. Both teams had chances and i thought it was a great game to watch. The sydney support was great. I only dream about the marinators being that good sorry guys. Lucky sydney brought up 2000 people other wise it would have been a very poor crowd.

The Marinators will have that kind of support when the Central Coast has a population of 5 million. Until then, we should just build on what we have. I thought in the last 20 minutes or so, Bay 23 was great.
The marinators were a bunch of bogan rable yesterday! If is wasn't... "we all follow a yellow football team" (wearing predominately blue now), it was "you are a wanker" or "shitting south of Mt White"...BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get some class! What wit!!! And people wonder why your a laughing stock amonsgt the other teams fanatics.

OK I want to take a more positive view of this game. I thought we'd be pwned all over the park in this one and we didn't.

Firstly, the bleeding obvious - no goals scored. While we can whinge about the lack of goals scored on our part, look at it this way, Sydney were favourites to bag a few & we stopped them. We had more shots, it seems, than them.

Secondly, Kwassi's penalty attempt. I had people asking me why is it that one of the more inconsistent forwards was taking the penalty. My reply was that he was the only one stupid enough to accept the challenge. At the close of a match, everybody's buggered, legs won't do what you want them to do & suddenly a ref blows a whistle and points to the penalty spot.

I thought, when I saw the reply, that Kwassi did good to place his body movement to one side and shoot to the other. The shot didn't have enough pace and Bolton got onto it, but  if the lack of pace had deceived Bolton, and he had gone flying over the top of the ball and let in the goal, we'd all hail Kwassi the new messiah!

No, I won't bag Kwassi for that shot, he again look dead on his feet. Hutch was down injured, Pedj and McGlinchey had played their ring off the whole match and could have been in worse shape than Kwassi. Never seen Matty take a penalty, someone above reckons he's hated taking them from his juniors/amateurs days so that maybe the answer. Dylan had the freshest legs on the park, but again, who has seen him take a penalty?

Thirdly, the constant moaning about Hutch. I noticed the comments from previous and in recent times the analysis about where Hutch is placed in this team. Agree that he is NOT the attacking focus, our plays do tend to start from out wide, and the second play and possible switch of direction comes from the centre attacking mid (Mc Glinchey) not one of the centre defensive mids. So if you want to assess Hutch's worth to the team, look at the scoreboard first.

Corica was quiet this match, I reckon. Kisel didn't come forward as much. Bridge, when he came on, had to stay back. So it does seem that the two defensive centre mids (Hutch & Pedj) did their job. Hutch also drifted out left when Heff had a a run, likewise, Pedj drifted right when Porter went forward.

I've also noticed that Hutch is doing less of his turn and pass backward routine, but maybe that's also because he has options with McGlinchey being more mobile than, say, Caceres, from last season. But again, Hutch is not the attacking focus. He'd be looking for either McGlinchey, Kwassi or Heff to take the ball up into attack. Or switch the ball over to Pedj or long ball it across to Elrich or Porter. Last resort would be to backpass to Wilko or Boogs or even back to Danny.

Anyone wondering why Travis isn't getting a run, may care to look at the results in this CDM area, and see that Travis is listed as a defensive centre mid more than an attacking centre mid. He ahs to bide his time til either Pedj or Hutch get injured or suspended. I think Mc Glinchey's cover would be Caceres and maybe Travis 3rd choice there.

Also remember that in the only 10 minute appearance by Travis, he took to a Melbourne player like a hound after a fox and picked up a yellow for his efforts. The tackle he tried, that earned him the yellow, was quite a nasty little piece of work from him, even if the receiver of the tackle arguably deserved it for a previous knock. He's firey if he gets fouled, and maybe that is showing up in training and Lawrie wants the guy to settle down a bit before committing him to a full 90, too?

Fourthly, we kept Danning quiet the whole match and nullified, to a large extent, Brosque and Aloisi. I was dreading Heff's match up against Danning. I know if I was Danning I would have been licking my lips at the prospect of playing against a fumbled footed player like Heff is sometimes.

But Heff stayed back a bit more, rarely went forward and lost the ball, and on those times he did lose the ball really worked hard to get back. We could skite that we had our B team in the defense and they couldn't crack it! Lavicka's sub or Danning was proof that the kid wasn't being effective. Top points for Heff in this match I reckon.

He, Hutch and Wilko, worked on Danning's side and made him so ineffective that the manager had to sub him and try someone else.

Have to agree with the work done on Danning and the defense so far this year has been quite impressive considering the calibre (minus jets) that we have played so far this year!!!
