ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Thinking about writing letters to people I seem to recall Lucy Wicks saying she was a member.
I'm not sure if that's correct or just a load of bollocks she sprouts in the hope it gains votes.
I did try to have a look at Fakebook earlier but I don't really use it so had a bit of trouble navigating.
However there appears to be pics of the sate Liberal member Crouch wearing a Mariners shirt.
Once again I wonder if he really interested or is it just for political gain. Gosford isn't in his seat
I don't think. But still if a real fan he might get behind us.

I've just fired off an email to the Mariners asking someone to tell us who they want us to write to and what to say.

Wicks and her family definitely members
I didn't phrase that very well. Is she a member because she likes football. Or is she a member
because she thinks she should be. For instance how many matches does she go to.
I presume she'll be at the Canberra game next week.

I've meet Lucy a few times now. Lovely lady, but out of all the pollies I've met in recent years, she is definitely the most plastic. I dont know if she's a Mariners fan or not, but if I were a betting man, I'd say is a member because she feels like she has to be. The times I've met her at official functions, she's presented herself well, and spoken beautifully, but it's pretty easy for me to see that it's all a front. At the first opportunity, she's outta there.

Crouch on the other hand, seems genuine. I could be wrong here, but he comes across as a local who cares about his electorate. He's always up for a chat, knows the names of the little people (like me), enjoys a laugh and a free piece of cake. Again, if I were a betting man, I'd say he has a genuine interest in the success of the team on and off the field.

The biggest political Mariners fan I've met is Belinda "Dont you know who I am?" Neale. A real fan from day one and one time (if not current) board member. But sadly, that where her attributes end. Nasty piece of work!. Old mate Holstien is also a huge fan (in more ways than one... lol).

Yeah... it was just a cheap shot.
P.S. I love how you included Syd in your post :)

Sorry - I don't care what their politics are or if they are members. Now is not the time to quibble over someone's politics, we have to be more pragmatic than that. We have over 6000 members that are part of families that represent far more people (otherwise known as voters). I suspect that those 6000 odd members could sway 30.000 votes - and that is scary for any politician. They need to represent their electorate and that means us. We need to be talking to both sides of politics so that support for at least management rights and a long term lease is supported by both sides of politics.

I agree 100%. I wasn't pushing any agenda... I was just waffling about my perceptions of their level of personal support for the team. I agree, we need to be bombarding these people with messages. You're right, once they see it might impact at the ballot box, things will start to happen.

Astute PJ .... this is outer left field ...

Online petitions I am told are easy to prepare.... if someone other than the club prepared one and sent it to the club... the club could then forwarded on the petition to all members asking them to sign and share around the Coast with their non member friends to sign as well.... you could get your 30k within a reasonably short period and in how tight this seat is .... I can only see all three levels of government wanting to help...

Could also be a terrible idea ... but who knows how many people we could get to sign... I know a couple of cafes who would ask customers to think about it ....

Was already thinking I might do this. Was going to use Change.org

What do people think?

Do we know if the head scummer is planning on running for the new council.?
I doubt it, but if he is I don't think he'll get as many votes as before.
Let's face it he ran as an independent but wasn't really. He probably got a heap of votes from Mariners supporters. After he foray into federal politics I think people have him sussed now.

Someone once told me ( 4 or 5 years ago admittedly) that the council take no notice of petitions.
Things may have changed but when I mentioned it he shook his head.
But if someone wants to start one I'll be keen.

The same goes with stock letters. Everyone writing Dear Council
Give the ground to the Mariners.
regards
Mr Pirate

I've written to the club asking if they could post on here who they want us to write and what to say.
Then people would have to put it in their own words.

I know we should be keeping politics out of it, but my dealings with Lucy weren't good.
My partner met her at one point and she said if you ever need anything let me know.
We contacted her when we needed help with something. Never heard back.
Only yesterday we had a letter from her. Still going on about 600 new jobs
for Gosford. Yes new jobs for Gosford but not new jobs. Weasel words in my opinion.

We'd be better off contacting Adam Crouch I think.

Funnily enough I've heard the complete opposite story with Emma McBride up in Dobell with regards to providing help when requested from people within her electorate.

For mine it's a worthwhile conversation to have... It shouldn't steal the limelight or even take any sort of focus away from engaging all of them but, it is worth knowing who we likely already have on our side... Anyone who is already a Mariners supporter might even be relied on to do some active work with us, as opposed to someone who doesn't really care about anything but the votes, who might vote for it in whatever branch they're representing at, but perhaps would be less inclined to work too hard for the cause so to speak.

If Lucy is truly engaged - and I tend to think she might actually be, considering she took the time to give a whole Mariners pride speech in parliament after the 2013 GF - we might stand a chance of actually getting her involved in some of this if she can see a political benefit as well.

What exactly is it that the club wants people to write, and to whom?
This is what I'm trying to find out. On Friday MC said it was us "The Voters" who should be contacting council.
But exactly who and what to write I'm not sure.

I've written the club to try and get some info. Surely Shaun will know who to write to.
