Central Coast vs Wellington

McBreen will have to get used to sitting with the fans in the grandstand. Simon, Kwassie and Baird will be our strikeforce into the future until the rumored striker signing turns up (if ever). Matty Ryan very confident on cross balls did a great job early keeping us in the game. His save from McAllister's free kick was exceptional. Dutchy as calming as ever and McGlinchey footwork fantastic tonight by far his best performance. Perez still finding his way but showing better signs each game. Baird will put pressure on Simon and Kwassie to perform to keep him out of the front line. He has already put Mcbreen off the park. We will need to improve on this performance to have any chance of upsetting Roar.

Crowd was 6844 I believe.

We deserved it. But we could have
a) lost the match int he first 10 mins.
B) lost our lead in the final 20 mins. We didn't close the match out early in the 2nd half!!! We were absolutely dominating them, and should have got thaty 2nd goal.

If we play the same way in the first 10 mins vs Brisbane Roar...we're looking at another mauling!

MOM

3pts WeeMac- I agree the goal swings it. He was very desperate to score tonight. And also I'm sure he left a good impression on his national team coach ;)
2pts Perez
1pt Ryan (Simon almost...)

Ryan 7.5
Great showing, bouncing back from that nightmare he had last week. And intercepting those crosses...fantastic!
Bojic 7
Glad he is back...one of the best fullbacks in the league. And his crossing was better today! Shame his shooting sucks (but equally on each foot  )
Rose 7.5
Solid effort, and almost scored a cracker!
Wilko 6.5.
Did what he had to! And I'm hearing him talking more and more. Really maturing into a fine leader!
Dutchy. 7.0
I agree he was crap for the first 10mins and yes he did switch afterwards. But I expect someone of his level and experience to not make that mistake. Ryan covered his mistakes early on...hence not a higher rating
WeeMac 8.5
Fantastic. Just keeps raising the bar. Still amazed how he didn't play a minute at the world cup. Great passing, great industry, good defensive efforts, decent crossing, and finally improved shooting! And not mention his AMAZING dribbling ability! Pulled some top level moves today!
Perez 8.
His best performance at BT so far this season. Was certainly in the mood, and had me excited whenever he touched the ball. What a great football brain!
Griffiths 6.5.
Agree that he was solid. No yellow card (suprising), and did his job well. Can't shoot lol
Bozanic 7.0
His close control and dribbling ability is insane! His crossing was terrific tonight! And strong in tackles! My only complaint, is nothing he can really fix...just that for a winger, he lacks pace!
Simon 7.5
Up until last week's game. I have been critiscing his game! But he won me back after the last 2 games. Great hassling, nice buildup play (most of the time), and good running! Hasn't scored in a couple of games, but his all round game is improving!
McBreen. 4.5
Was woeful! I was hoping he could pull a Kwasnik, and push himself for a starting position, especially that awesome article in the paper. But he disappointed.
He hardly ran, his touches were sloppy.
And the biggest problem...in the air! He couldn't win a header!
Apparently he is an aerial threat, but anymore. I took particular care to examine whenever there was a header.
On at least 4 times (up to as many as 8+), he pushed his back into the player, and expected to win the header! No jumping. Needless to say- it didn't work!
Hopefully he gets dropped for the Brisbane game. He cant offer anything off the bench!

Baird needs to start gelling with the team, but some nice touches, good hunger. Just needs to assert himself a bit more. And know when and where to make the runs!

A couple of times he made great runs and Patricio missed them and went for other options. If Baird and Perez can get on a wavelength then I think Baird will be good value.

I really enjoyed the first half tonight.Even though we were caught napping early & were lucky not to concede a goal or two, we bravely fought back & finished up dominating the first half.
The second half however, was totally different & around the 65minute mark we started to let them into the game again.
Our midfield look tired & the Nix were able to capitalise & put us under some pressure.

Overall ,IMO we were lucky to come away with the 3 points & although we never looked like losing a draw could quite easily have been on the cards.

Ryan.7 - He really stood tall & showed no signs of nervousness.A top class performance with a brillliant save from Macallister

Pedj.6.5 - Made some great runs in attack & in defence. A strong first half but faded a little towards the end

Wilko.7.5 - A very strong game & despite a nervous first 5mins really played a captain`s knock.

Dutchy.6.5 IMO probably one of his poorer games. Macallister got over the top of him in the last 20mins
& thats something no other opponent has done this season

Rosey.7.0 - I love the way he continually looks to attack the opposition. His combination with Olly just gets better each game.

Griffo.6.0 - Another player who faded towards the end.We appeared to lose control in front of the back four & this caused us problems.

Wee-mac8.0 - The little fella ran his arse off, scored a terriffic goal & generally showed his National coach just how damaging a player he is.

Olly6.5 - A little under done this week. He tried hard but quite a few things didn`t come off & we lost possession.

Perez7.0 - Played well & continues to improve. All the signs are there, but I`m not convinced he`s 100% fit yet.Loved his chant though, that was fantastic.

Simon7.0 - I wasn`t a fan at first but his game overall continues to develop & his attitude is first class. A solid performer even if the goals don`t come that often.

McBreen4.5- Just not impressed at all.Rarely first to the ball, plays like an emu (never gets off the ground & his first touch is worse than Kwassie`s

Baird- For his first start he looked ok.He had some nice touches, won a few heads & generally looked a lot sharper than McBreen.I think his signing is the last nail in Mrdja`s coffin (so to speak)

MOM
Wee-mac 3
Wilko 2
Ryan / Rosey 1

Just a few observations.
1) Hutcho- having a chat to Herbert during the warm
up? What was that all about?

2)Macallister put in a very good game for the Nix

3)Loved the fans asking Danny what the score was...lol
I thought he was treated with a lot of respect by
the crowd

Just wondering who everyone thinks will be in the running of rhte Johnny Warren Medal?
I'm think Dutchy and McGlinchey both will...
Unfortunately Perez hasn't been consistent enough(perhaps if he keeps up the perfomances til the end of the season).

Apparently Broich is a shoe-in to win it? I dont know why.
For me
Dutchy, WeeMac, Flores, Kruse, McKay, Fowler (purely because of how awesome he is at a crap club), Hernandez (although inferior to last season), Ifil and maybe Tim Brown (doing well for Welly).

Culina will also be up there (I can't stand him)

PS.
Youth player- bozanic (if young enough), amini, Ryan, Rojas, Antonis,
And 100% I think Ryan deserves it!

And Coach- Postecoglu...with Arnie a close 2nd!

I think Arnie has a good chance for manager of the year with what he has done with the club in such a short time but Postecoglu is in much the same boat there with a little extra time

Ryan's save from McAllister was crucial, a real turning point, so many times in recent seasons Wellington have jagged a goal and then sat back and frustrated us. It could so easily have happened yesterday. I am still buzzing with that performance from McGinchey. His touch, ability to turn on a ten cent piece, his slalom like dribbling as if evading the poles on a ski run, his work rate, his pace and not only the goal but also a super shot earlier to give us a glimpse of yesterday's hero Danny Vukovic. How the po faced Herbert couldn't give him game time at the WC is baffling. St Mirren didn't use him either but Arnie is making Lawrie's signing of him a real coup. The most talented young Scot in years is dumped by Celtic, loses his way and finds it again on the Central Coast! You've got to love that! Thought Perez had his best game so far, so good in fact that Mustafa only got ten minutes. Welly couldn't handle Perez dribbling, he and McGlinchey were unstoppable. Mustafa in his cameo still lit things up though, he's a delight to watch. And did anyone notice that we didn't play 442 with a diamond midfield but 433...
Mom 3 points McGlinchey
2 points Perez
1 point Ryan

I agree with everthing else you said.... but this? Man, were we at the same game? For me, Dutchy was equal MoM with Weemac, the gaol swinging it for the wee man. Funny how two people can see the same thing and have such different opinions :)

The Danny respect was awesome too. Good on us :) He got a warm round of applause as he left the field at the end of the match. It was good to see.

3pts - Weemac
2pts - Dutchy
1pt - Perez (btw loved the chant from the Bay)

Honourable mentions - Simon, big aggressive in defence in the last 20 mins and Ryan, killed some demons from the week before. Awesome performance from him.

Dutchy has set his standard so high & I think the world of him as a player. If you watch the replay I think you`ll find Macallister got the better of him in the last 25mins or so (3 with the head & once at feet)

I`ve never seen that before from any player, hence the lower score.

apparently according to a-league website + a few others ( + other team's fans).
Perez was the our best player. He was the difference??? Best game for mariners? Probably...definately best home game (only comparison is off the bench vs Sydney)
But simply...
how underrated is WeeMac????
But on the topic of our midfielders...What's the difference between Amini, WeeMac and Perez?
Personally I think Perez will stay here the longest. WeeMac must surely be itiching to fulfill that long-time potential...whereas for in the best interests of our national team, Amini shouldn't spend more than 1.5 years here!
I think we are definately building our team around Perez...which seems a smart move.
