Central Coast Mariners Squad for 2009/10 HAL Season

I don't think we should go back and explore the Kwasnik option, although he would probably come at a decent discount after the season he has had with Phoenix.

Mile Sterjovski as marquee would be good, but I am not at all hopeful of that or any other major signing happening for us, either for the ACL or the season 09/10.

It's possible we could lose Petrovski at the end of season 08/09, we have already lost Mile to Turkey & there hasn't been a marquee this season. All points to us having plenty of money to splash around, if we wanted to.

But it seems that the powers that be at Mariners HQ are either sitting on their hands during this Transfer window doing nothing, or getting pants at every deal they offer, or waiting til the season is over to make announcements for the ACL campaign.

I also cannot see any player from Sheffield coming out, even for the ACL campaign. They are close to being promoted into EPL and if that happens, they'll be wanting a lot of players in training for them as they prepare for that EPL season.

Unless the Mariners pull off some miracle signing, I fear we are destined to go into the ACL with what we have at present.

Re. Kwas. Totally agree with you. I would see it as a step backwards for our football club.

Apart from T.Vidmar and Boz, I feel LM has struggled with recruiting that big name. Obviously he felt he had enough to cover Viddy's departure but our lack of activity or even rumoured activity (which is fun) during this transfer window regarding our frail defence is a concern. Many people voiced their concern regarding our defence at the start of the season and with the performance of our defenders so far this season it is a worry as we approach the ACL!

Carney is definately not the man to sure up our defence and perhaps Lawrie's closeness to the current squad is perhaps a reason that there has not been to much talk of transfers regarding a CB. In fact he has only signed players to replace departures which is worrying instead of looking at weak links (which ATM are many) and replacing them to strengthen the whole squad.

How is signing the CCMFC all time leading goal scorer a backwards step?

Some people, sheesh

Well maybe its just be, but I feel with him in our starting side, at right mid, we created much more opportunitys than we even do now

Just think how hard he had to work to get into those positions. His skills at taking players on 1on1 are second only to D-Mac IMO

Id have him in our mids in a heartbeat

Look guys, I spent as much time covering my beer and screaming "FFS Kwassie" as everyone else but when you need that tiny spark of maverick genius....................

He's your man

Not too sure of the stats but I'll guess we have scored more goals this season and hasn't Matt Simon provided that maverick genius. Just have to agree to disagree lads! and I'm glad he's gone lol

correct me if im wrong bear but he played down the left hand side as one of his goals against the scum is etched in my memory when he lost the ball regaind it then had a ping from the coprner of 18yrd and beat covic at near post (the most hated thing as a keeper)

Was a great goal Hoover. I cant stand conceding at near post, Covic would have hated it! Kwas is however better as a right sided midfielder imo

I would also love to see Kwaz back and as i have said elsewhere, he likely regrets taking the 'striker' role for the Nix.

how nice it would have been against qld if we had been able to send out

danny
porter wilko pedj heff
kwas caceres hutch
simon sash dmac

the primary reason being that while kwas and hutch both can pass and score the odd goal, they both drop back in tight and close down spaces. caceres is still the man that (like tommy before him) you want standing higher to direct counterattacks. you wind up with a lot less space for players to run through. you can also slot any one of those three into any spot across the 4-3-3, but the above is the way i'd probably set it up.

this is not a luxury we have, but we didn't have the money to keep him as i understand, so it's all pretty academic.

Still lost the game though... Not enough maverick genius that week lol. His goal against Welly last round last year in the wet was great though and it got us the plate

good on you for thinking big mate, but i doubt these players would come back seeing most are in mid season and getting game time, besides ceccoli.

What's people's thoughts on Owens for next season?

Two seasons riddled with injuries, this season a complete no show.

Personally, I think we've missed his creative play badly. I rate him highly and if he can show our doctors he can overcome his problems, I'd like to see him get a new contract. Can unlock defences, good passing game and can score goals.
